Was it Jimmy Johnson?
Wannstead was a coordinator, same with Cameron, Sporano was no more than a assistant/oline coach, Philbin OC, Campbell TE coach....
Bring in someone who knows how to run a franchise. Knows how to game plan, put his players into a good spot, Call a time out at the right time, etc.
This is one of the biggest/greatest jobs in the country. Only 32 men have the opportunity to be an NFL coach, let alone a team with as much history, in a beautiful area in this country, with a ton of talent. This job should be drooled after. Ross and Tannembaum (if involved) better take the best man available, and no one else.
No cute coordinators that had 1/2 years of success, no bull****, lets get someone who can come in, take the reins and run the show how we deserve. I am tired of the "wanna-be's" we've brought in since Shula.

Ok, i'm listening....Who do you have in mind?
Sean Payton is my first option, after that I really am at a loss for the coach that fits this criteria, so please....with all due respect, provide a list. -
Other than that Ill take a look at Mangini, Chudzinski, Shiano and Gruden/Cowher/Dungy if they'd take it (very doubtful)
I am tired of hiring the "next best thing" since that hasnt worked out in 15 years. -
I disagree about Miami having a ton of talent... We've got slightly more than a handful of talented players and some really, really bad players filling in the rest of the roster. The team isn't that good and is terribly coached.RoninFin4 likes this. -
There is no easy common denominator for why the Dolphins coaching searches have failed to find a good coach, and I think trying to look for one is problematic. I'm not sure guys who have been fired before are any more inherently likely to succeed than first time guys.

Someone needs to explain to me why Payton is so wanted.
Yes, he won a Super Bowl. That's great. That's what we are in this for.
But since then his teams have mostly been a disaster. His defenses the last few years have been some of the worst units I've ever seen. He was involved in a bad scandal where his players were purposely trying to injure opponents.
Without Drew Brees, how good of a coach is he really? I don't think he's special at all. He's massively overrated.Disgustipate and Jt0323 like this. -
Hue Jackson on the other hand? Yes, please.
He went 8-8 with a bad Raiders team. He brings passion and energy and experience.
He's turned Andy Dalton into a pretty damn good quarterback. Meanwhile, we have our own young quarterback struggling to take that next step.
Oh, and Mike Tannenbaum represented him as an agent.
It's a perfect fit.sad dolfan and number21 like this. -

I admit i'm sleeping on Hue Jackson, definitely a deserving candidate for the job. I have a feeling he'd really help Tannehill, and he's pretty much next years version of Dan Quinn, Todd Bowles....In other words he is a guy we could hire and actually end up having a quick turnaround type of season.

Wannstedt was the Head Coach of the Chicago Bears for years, prior to coming to Miami to be groomed as Jimmy's replacement, by Jimmy himself.
Sean Payton would be my preference, but only if he is fired. Giving up draft picks to get a coach to come in and rebuild, is counter-productive.
Hue Jackson is a strong candidate for many reasons. His relationship with Mike Tannenbaum, for one. His work with Andy Dalton, as another. Plus, he went 8-8 as the head coach of some TERRIBLE Oakland Raiders teams. I would be more than okay with him on the short list of candidates. Especially if you decide to go with experience, this time around.
I am not sure if there are any college coaches that I would explore. Still somewhat gun shy due to Saban.
In short...there aren't any real, clear cut candidates, currently. -
What about Gruden? Every time I hear him talking about Tannehill he is very positive. Could he be lured?

In other words, You would be paying Gruden a LOT of money to get him, and not at his best. You would be paying for the name, not the coach.GARDENHEAD and sad dolfan like this. -
