He's older, but he's got a lot left in the tank, draft a stud rookie to learn under him and Alonso and things will be looking up.

 

No, not Timmons please. Zach Brown is alot better player and younger, can also cover tight ends which Timmons cannot and he will not command too much money.

I think we are looking at Timmons probably because the other guys are going to be too pricey. Now if you get Timmons though, and add through the draft at LB you've got a good mentor, and a experienced guy with knowledge to help keep that D's head in the game I'd think. Either way, doesn't hurt to see where he's at and what he's thinking.

 

Timmons stats last year were pretty solid too.

 

Yeah, and I think you could expect the same from him next year. He's a good player. The real nice thing if we got him, you pencil him in as a starter and fill another hole. Pittsburgh and their players though are notorious for going to market, getting terms and bringing them back to Pittsburgh to decide if they'll match or not. It's just how they work.

 

Timmons is a career Steeler, played all his career in a 3-4/odd defensive front, I don't know if he fits right in Miami

 

The thing I don't like about timmons is he can't cover tight ends. We need athletic linebackers with good coverage skills to cover tightends and recievers in the seams and accros the middle. It's been our Achilles heal on defense for years now.

Seriously man where do you get this crap? Simmons is not a good coverage linebacker specially not at this point in his career when he has slowed down a gear. His strength is against the run not against the pass.

Timmons is a good cover LB'er. You should watch football more in order to understand it. And if you're going to comment on a player you should at least watch him play.

Timmons was ranked 70th out of 87 qualifying linebackers last season. He is 31 has been in the league 10 years and has definitely lost a step. You could say he was pretty good in coverage earlier in his career but at this point he is not a good coverage LB.

BTW you don't make judgments about a player based on one game or a few highlight plays. You make your assessment based on consistent performance throughout the season and timmons was consistently not very good against the pass.

Is he as good as he was when he was 25? No. But he is still a good cover LB'er. He puts himself in the right spots and moves well. He's not as fast as he was, but he is, once again, a good cover LB'er. Especially against TE's and RB's.

 

I am not moving the goalposts, I stated from the beginning that "at this point in his career" timmons is not a good coverage LB.

I'm not sold on Hightower. I feel he could be a product of the system in new england and even so his numbers were not great. He is also not very good in coverage and we badly need linebacker who can cover. Add to that the fact that he will be very expensive just sesms like a bad deal all around to me. A guy like zack brown will come cheaper and is a more versatile LB with good coverage skills.

And you don't use PFF to make judgements on players either as they have no knowledge of the calls or assignments of the players they "grade", and I use that term incredibly loosely.

What are we signing Timmons to do? No position he's ever played is what, he's been a 3-4, ILB/OLB tweener his whole career, and now in his twilight we are going to change him into a 4-3 MLB or OLB?

Timmons can learn, I'm not saying he can't, but why take the chance on an aging player?

 

The money to get hightower would be more than worth it for the impact he would have. I go all in on Hightower.

I dont watch film to the point of the people at PFF. I watch film, i dont watch every player in every game on every play, with oversight from coaches with position specific NFL experience.

 

I doubt you do much but regurgitate the stats that PFF provides you. You can spout them a thousand times over but all your doing is exactly the same as what you say others do.

Timmons is a pretty good cover LB'er. Like I said, he's lost a step and no longer 25, but he's a good quality starting LB'er who can cover TE's and RB's very well.

Here's the thing. He is saying that PFF knows more than the very same coaches they use to grade. Here's why I say that. If the coaches continue to ask the guy to cover even though he's bad at it according to experienced position specific coaches at PFF does that make any sense.

So coaches who are on the same level ask him to continually do something he's bad at even though in the end it affects the tenure as a coach? Are you ****ing serious? Or that they just didn't notice continually - for ten years.

 

PFF doesn't have an opinion, they have an amalgamation of opinions, ranging from poor to good, with poor quality control, and we can boil it all down to this, in a nutshell, too many cooks spoil the soup. (uninterrupted triple adage=75 points!) (Yes, I admit that there is one gratuitous usage, but it flows well, you have to give me that.)

PFF grading does not, by any stretch of the imagination, supercede anyones opinion, could you for the love of mother nature, stop acting like it does.
