At least Jones had a good season here. Wheeler and besides a lucky INT falling in his hands (Ellerbe) are both garbege, its ridiculous.

 

We've seen Jones play well for a full season. I'm more confident in him.

 

Couldn't help but think the entire game how much better the Defense would be with Dansby and Burnett in there for us instead.

 

Despite the win and short week, there are still deficiencies on the defense that have persisted since week 3. Hopefully Cameron Wake's presence increases even more with the extra layoff.

Imagine Wake & Jordan in a 3-4 off the edges!

 

Wheeler stands out the most to me, he is BAD, never thought someone would make me miss Burnett

 

Wheeler has been terrible. Jones has been terrible too but has shown he can succeed with us.

 

I miss both of them immensely.

To me... Wheeler was terrible tonight. Just terrible. I dunno if its the scheme putting him in bad positions or if its him... but he's not looking good at all.

Jones... was pretty good last week, but tonight I saw him miss some big tackles he normally makes. I dont know if its scheme again that's got him out of position, or what...

I tend to lean towards scheme with both of these guys, but that because of how atrocious our 3rd down defense has been this year under Coyle. It woudlnt surprise me if these guys who have proven to be good players in the past, just arent being put in the right positions to succeed.

 

I think people are forgetting just how average Dansby and Burnett were in our defense. I genuinely see no tangible difference.

 

I thought this was Ellerbe's best game. He also had at least two PDs, and went into the game with just one on the season.

 

Wheeler had a good hit on Dalton forcing an incompletion late in the game. Maybe earlier on the last series, cannot recall for sure.

 

They absolutely were. They tackled just fine in Quarters 1, 2 & 4.

 

The 3rd down defense has been off the charts bad. I have never seen a team give up more 3rd and longs like this team does.
It's almost comical how easily this team gives up 10-15yd conversions on 3rd down

 

We didn't sign Wheeler when he was a street FA last year. If he wasn't good enough to be depth on a good defense last year, i am confused on the thought process thinking he's be an adequate starter this year (yes i know, PFF blitz ratings, blah blah blah).

I'd love to be a fly on the wall when the FO is talking about some of these decisions, and how they talk themselves into it.

 

Wait, so using a 4-3 hybrid double a gap blitz scheme isnt a good idea when you clearly have 3-4 personnel? Who freakin knew?

That's the difference. Those two were solid average to above average(I still and always thought dansby was better then some thought) consistently. Wheeler and Ellerbe has both been all over the place. Some good plays. Some average plays. Some awful plays. Id say both have been below average so far this season.

Dansby and Burnett were not below average players.

 

I dunno, i've seen more big plays from the new guys then I did with Dansby and Burnett, who were really just Crowder clones to me. Solid, but never make a real difference.

 

I think Burnett's play as a Dolphin has increased by him no longer being a Dolphin. I kind of wish I saw the player that people keep on describing to me.

 

Ehh, we will just disagree. I remember one big play and that was from wheeler. Other then that, it's been missed tackles and plenty of out of position plays. They could get better. I was very excited for the signings. I loved Ellerbe especially with Baltimore. I loved him at UGA. Maybe he is just adjusting to the new defense. Let's hope.

 

I remember 3rd longs always getting converted then too. I don't remember sacks, pressures or TOs with them.

 

That happened frequently with Dansby and Burnett too. I'm not saying the new guys are great, they aren't. I'm just saying the quality of the last two guys is being vastly overstated.

 

Dansby took the wrong angles so he always made the tackle...7 yards down field though. I think Ellerby and Wheeler have shut down the TE's pretty well since the beginning of the season, but the D in general needs to figure out how to stop 3rd and long.

 

I remember those all the time. Think how bad this game would have been if Miami didn't get three interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Did Miami have any 4 Turnover games last season? I know they didn't have any against teams that are fighting for first round bye against the playoffs.

 

I just started saying "oh look, it's 3rd and Green"

 

They faced 93 plays vs. one of the hottest offenses in the game.

Wheeler and Jones both played on the defense that forced 4 TO's, 5 sacks, and a GW safety.

You have to be a total clown to start a thread like this after a win.

Here is another thing to consider. Andy Dalton was player of the month in October.

 

Agree 100%, I always found myself yelling at my t.v every sunday because of a mistake Burnett made. I thought he was a pretty solid player in Dallas and San Diego but once he got here he was just awful IMO.

 

Also completely shredded a jets defense that was considered top five going into the game.
