It's not like similar symbolism isn't in use everywhere else we look.

Darwinism as a concept is so big because of the ID & Creationist crowd. They're the ones that needed a effigy for spurning.

If you really want to help stem the ID tide, it is time to lose that diagram that shows a chimp on one end a person on the other and all the "inbetweens". It still boggles my mind how so many people against evolution think that's what it is.

I've never understood that line. Honestly, have you ever run into a single person that says "to-mah-to" or "po-tah-to"? Have you ever even heard of a single person saying either one on tv, radio or otherwise?

I haven't. Literally the only time I ever hear the words pronounced like that are either in that line in that song, or from people parroting the line in that song.

I think it should be noted that Evolutionism doesn't stress that we developed from chimps or any other extant ape, but rather that we all stem from the same ancestor.

That's exactly my point. Its why we need to get rid of that stupid graphic. Then maybe we'd stop hearing all that, "I ain't a'been from no damn monkey".

No matter what you do, there is going to be an argument against it. There is no way to convince them otherwise.

    Fear is a powerful motivator.

It was a lot more common in 1937, when the song was written.

EDIT: Also, it's a British thing.
