I'm gonna look outside the box here with the Ferguson suspension.
He had a "serious knee injury" last year on Nov 19th against the Panthers.
I haven't heard anything of what the seriousness of it was except he had surgery.
What if the only way Ferguson was going to get back on the field in time for next year was to rehab with Preformance enhancing drugs? (PEDS) If he wasn't going to be ready for week 1 he was probably not going to be signed by anyone. Maybe taking the PEDs, in which he failed the test for, was his only chance back into the league. PED's have long been documented as helping in injury recovery. To be honest I completely support them for this type of situation.
Of course he would never come out and say this, but it may be the case. Preliminary reports do not show that he is fighting the suspension, only potentially trying to get it reduced. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
So before everyone jumps on Ferguson, as many have already called him an idiot, take into consideration this many have been the only way for him to help the Dolphins in 2010.
Of course this is all speculation, and has no sources behind it, only my logic. He may in fact be proven to be an "idiot."
I just want to reserve a bit of judgment on a model player who may just be scrapping for a roster slot. Hate to see players end careers due to an injury.

I dont think it is unusual for players to us PED's to rehab, Fergie just got caught. Personally, I don't have a problem with what he did other then he got caught... :(

Colorado Dolfan ...dirty drownin' man?
Too bad, so sad. "PEDs" are not allowed in the NFL for any reason. If Ferguson is in such dire need to play for financial reasons, that's on him. If he just wanted to play because he loves the game so much, he wouldn't have gone the PED route, because he should have had enough respect for the rules of the game.
Either way, he knowingly broke the rules. He let down the team. Tough to lose him, but I say, good riddance. At least Porter just ran his mouth too much.late again and BigDogsHunt like this. -
Cheater....loser!

I don't know why people are upset or even defending him. Lets face it at 36 and coming off a serious injury there was less then 50% chance he was coming back as a Dolphin, and even less chance he was able to play to the level we were used to. Just retire Jason and save some face.

Hate to see his career end this way as I am sure the big Tuna feels the same way. But he is done.

This entire thread is a moot point IMVHO, at his age, with that injury, and now the suspension, no way he comes back to this team. So maybe we ought to just leave bad enough alone.
No doubt in my mind he did what he did to try and play for the Dolphins and contribute to our success next season, not going to crucify the man for that!JimToss likes this. -
Well before we all take the morale high ground, let us realize that it's pretty commonplace for doctor's to prescribe some type of steroids to aid the healing process after these type of surgeries. The older we get the more difficult it becomes to heal on our own.

Good to know Ferguson will be back sometime in November for our playoff push!!!!!!

we already knew coming out of the 2009 season
Ferguson had to be replaced
need 2 starting quality NT's in rotation to run a 3-4
nothing has changed accept for him
he's been a stand-up guy & I wish him the bestJimToss likes this. -
I still haven't gotten over 1985 when they beat us in the AFC championship game to go and get killed by Da' Bears
Marino & Co. spanked the Bears that year. I believe they were 12-0 and we hung 32 points on them in the first half. Vaunted defense my a$$.
We would have won the superbowl that year had we made it:mad:

I've no time for guys who cheat, but he did fill a huge gap whilst he was here. It is such a huge part of the 3-4 Defense. We really need help at this position now, and cant expect Solai to do it all himself. It dont matter how good others are, if you aint got a good NT, everything else will collapse around you

First of all, not all steroids have anabolic properties.
The type of steroid that is "commonplace for doctor's to prescribe" after surgery is typically an anti inflammatory called Methylprednisolone. This, by the way isn't a banned substance in the NFL, because it's not an anabolic steroid..
The NFL has banned all anabolic steroids.
Here's a list of the banned substances:http://www.prostaronline.com/bannedsubstances.html
Actually your whole premise is pretty naive. The NFL has medical personnel who are able to make the determination as to whether or not a drug is necessary for a player to heal properly. Their rules and policy I'm sure reflect that. -

Do we really need to? After all, he has already been laid off for the first 8 games of the season. :shifty:

Ferguson was just trying to save his career and I bet each and everyone here would likely have done the same thing to try and keep their career going. There was no certainty Ferguson would even have made the team next year, so I look at this as an opportunity to improve the NT position, either through Free Agency or the Draft. We have neglected this area for too long, and Soliai is just a temporary fix. I think we should look at Dan Williams and Cam Thomas....we could easily trade down and still get these guys.

We can't lay off Ferguson. I don't know whether or not you can release a suspended guy.
-
We should be spending our time thinking who we can replace him with rather than judging him, lest we be judged ourselves.

Yes, it sucks that Ferguson won't be with us... Yes, we need to improve the NT position and I hope we do so.
Make no mistake, though, Ferguson brought this on himself, and for that reason, I have no sympathy for him.BleedinGreenNC likes this. -
