It started off as a pretty good Friday. Closed a deal at work... Got paid. Then I got a call from my little brother at 5:21PM. My father has prostate cancer. I hate life. Update - http://forums.thephins.com/showthread.php?p=630611#post630611 Update 2 - http://forums.thephins.com/showthread.php?p=631091&posted=1#post631091
You have my empathy brother, life can be hard and your father is in all of our thoughts and prayers to be sure.
Sorry to hear that. I hope everything turns out alright. Cancer has hit my family more than once, I know how you are feeling.
My Grandfather had prostate cancer as well. He got treated with radioactive seeds implanted in our around his Prostate and they effectively killed the cancer. The only thing that effected him was the fact that he had to wear a cathater (sp?). Your Dad should be fine, but I will keep him in my prayers as well.
Sorry to hear that. My father passed away from cancer recently so if you need someone to talk to or get advice from, I'll be glad to help.
Mike, prostate cancer is very treatable if caught early enough and many forms of prostate cancer are slow to progress. Please let us know what we can do to help support you and your family as you go into this journey. We won't let you down.
so sorry to hear that honey....you can always IM me or PM me whenever, i'm a good shoulder to lean on
as Celtkin stated, prostate cancer is treatable, and slow moving. so keep your chin up and be there for him. i hope and pray this draws your family (even) closer together, and that you all draw strength from each other, just as your dad will draw it from the rest of you. going back to the old site, and here, i have always enjoyed reading your posts about all manner of things, from your days in the military, to adventures with Warp, to house parties, to the original C2C game, to chasing girls, to your dad's recent video game buying spree. and usually, even if the story is not about your family, they are woven into the story in some way. so it is clear y'all have a family that "gets it," because your admiration for them shows in what you have posted about them. and that can only come from parents who truly get what's important in life and instill that in their kids. so i have faith that you, and your family, will weather this storm, and be strong for him, and become stronger as a family. hang in there Mor!
Sorry to hear, thoughts and prayers and keep us updated. My father actually was diagnosed a few years ago and is cancer free atm. The only problem he has is a thinning of his vein walls due to the seeds that they used, but it isn't life threatening. This is something that can be treated, don't expect the worst brother.
Sorry to hear, bro. Hope things get better soon. Try to stay positive though, that's 90% of the battle. My dad has battled cancer in the past so I know what you're going through. Just keep your chin up, bro.
I am sorry I was a bit late to this request, I was being chaplain to a men's retreat. Let me add my best wishes and prayers to all those lifted up here already for your Dad, your family, and for you as well. There are folks here with backgrounds in the sciences who can get you good information on treatment etc. Don't hesitate to use them. I for one always wanted all the information I could get when dealing with loved ones' diseases. Many of us are fully prepared to walk with you however you need us in this time of horror. I don't pretend to know how you feel but I know how I felt when cancer hit my Mom, the stroke hit my Dad, and cancer attacked my wife. In each case I wanted folks who would listen to me vent. If that would help you, vent away...... Others that I have worked with as a pastor, and there have been over a thousand, dealt with the shock in their own ways but anger, resentment, and depression in some form were constants. We will walk with you in those areas as well. Keep us up to date as you feel able and we will continue to pray! God's best to you all......... Pastor Keith aka Ohiophinphan
Mike, know that my prayers and thoughts are with you. All of us on here will be here for you, what ever you need. If you need to talk, pm me, or, I'll be glad to listen. Just hold on.
Update 1 The part I never posted was that my folks are retiring. They've already shipped most of the stuff in their house to Nicaragua. They are insured (health insurance) until the end of March... Then they are screwed. Now with Just about 2 weeks of insurance, they're trying to rush the surgery procedure. To add to matters, about 3 weeks ago my dad had surgery on his prostate. It was enlarged and they assured us it was not cancerous. After removing the growth we were again assured it was not cancer. It wasn't until it was submitted for a 2nd look at John Hopkins when they realized it was cancer. My pops wouldn't have even know he had cancer had he not come in for his post op follow up appointment. Nobody ever made a sense of urgency or asked him to come it. My uncle who is a doctor is screaming malpractice based on negligence... But that's a whole other story.
Man good luck with this Mor. Cancer runs ramped in my family, cancer is a tough thing to deal with, but if your Dad is a fighter he might just be able to fight through this thing. specially considering your past with your brother, i pray you dont lose someone so close again.
Mike, I have a way to get state funded insurance through Broward Health if it helps at all, let me know and I can run the process by you...anything I can do to help you, I will...
Here is one of my favorite quotes from, "V for Vendetta". I edited to reflect you Mor. My prayers & thoughts go out to your and your family. My mom is a 3 time cancer survivor and it was hard on my family & I. I won't go into details but I did a lot of smoking and kept everything inside back then. One thing I regret in the whole process was going into a shell and not talking about it more with friends & family. I wish you & your family the best. You know all of us are here for you if you ever want to talk about it. Take from a guy who has been through it before, talking about it does help.
Hopefully you can get that surgery done pronto. There are good doctors and there are bad ones. Like your dad, mine had the latter. I pray your situation is better resolved.
Finally, some good news Update 2 Wow... There's still great people in this world. My dad has worked for Watson Pharmaceuticals for 16 years. He resigned at the beginning of March. They gave him a great bonus and thanked him for all of the hard work. His paper was had been through since last week. He's already been given the bonus money and his desk was being filled with the stuff of his replacement. Today my dad went to work and explained that he has cancer. It happened after close of business Friday, so nobody at the company knew. The big bosses at the company did something I have never seen done (especially in a large corporate environment like Watson's). They pulled paperwork, back tracked and declined the resignation. And they're releasing him on disability due to being diagnosed with cancer. This leaves him insured... Which is an amazing thing. Thank you all for the words and prayers.... Seems like they really work
