If it turns out that way then everyone will definitely know the league office is biased towards the Pats. No way Light should get off without a suspension for at least one game after punching Crowder 3 times.

With this decision Goodell shows a lot of arrogance and total disrespect for the NFL in general, using hes position to protect N.E.

the question is this, what would have happend if Crowder ripped off Lights helmet and starting punching him back? im guessing nothing, because somehow Crowder got fined just like Light who actually did those things, so if Crowder did them his fine would still be the same...

so this basically tells players in the league, if someone attacks you, you can hit em back because if you do nothing about it your gonna get the samefine anyway... great message to send...

Bull... On ESPN they said that crowder was the instigator with "extreme verbal abuse." So saying some nasty things to someone is equal to holding someone by the hair, and punching them over and over? Are you kidding me? If this was a criminal issue do you think the punishment for Light and crowder would have been the same? Of course not. But in Godell land the Patriots are treated like family. BS

NEW YORK (AP)—Matt Light of New England and Channing Crowder of Miami have been fined $15,000 apiece by the NFL for what the league called “a verbal and physical altercation” last week.

Neither will be suspended, the league said Wednesday.

Light punched Crowder several times after the Miami player shoved him on a New England field goal late in Sunday’s 48-28 win over the Dolphins. They also argued before being pushed apart.

I don't know that there should be suspension...I mean, Goodell didn't suspend anyone from the Jags fight recently, where there were punches thrown, and other things done. Also, Goodell fined both those players in that fight $15k each. While I agree that Light should be fined more, it is apparent that Goodell doesn't roll that way.

I think that there needs to be a change of the rules. As it stands, Goodell is doing the same thing across the board for fighting.

I knew they were just going to slap a fine on Light but at least they were nice enough to give a Patriot discount for Crowder too....

I never do this but I found the report that they would be receiving equal fines so disturbing that I called the NFL public relations office and complained. (1-212-450-2000) I spoke to a person who said he would pass it on. While I doubt that Goodell will hear about it maybe if enough people called the NFL will try to be fairer in the future.

That's a good idea. You should also mention that talk around the country is that Goodell favors the patriots due to an ol' buddy system with Kraft, and this just reinforces it.

That's a loaded pile of crap. You might as well fine 99% of the players in the league if verbal abuse is considered wrong. Players are constantly trying to get into each others head.

The NFL essentially decided that, based on what Crowder said, he deserved to get smacked. That's the only reasonable argument for having the same fines.

sounds pretty bogus to me. I have no problems at all with crowder being fined for verbally instigating a fight. My problem with the issue is that he's being fined the same amount for his trash talking, that matt light is for ripping off crowders helmet and throwing and landing 3 punches to crowders head/face... thats the total BS of it all...

I'm bored at work, waiting for hte boss to go home so I can skip out of here. So I wrote an email. That was going to be short. Now it's long. And here it is:

Dear Mr. Goodell,

I am an avid Miami Dolphin fan. So you can easily guess I was surprised to see that Crowder and Light received equal fines by the league for their participation in the on-field brawl this past Sunday, which was terrible, and not to be condoned.

After reading of Mr. Aiello's explanation for the equal fine:

It appears he is saying that Channing bore responsibility for verbally instigating the fight. I'm not sure what Channing could have possibly said to Mr. Light immediately before the fight because they were in the middle of a play and Matt ripped off Channing's helmet and they immediately began their brawl.

If your position is that he instigated it throughout the game, well, that at what point does this trash talk stop becoming a justifier for what Matt did? Would you condone Matt attacking Channing after the game? What if he waited in the tunnel, would that still be ok? At what point does the "heat of the moment" argument run out?

Before this decision, there was already talk that the league favors the Patriots. From the league's decision today, and Mr. Aiello's response, I see two possible explanations.
1 - The league views verbal instigation as equal to physical attack to a helpless player, to the back of his head (a move I hear is even banned in the UFC because of its viciousness) by another player.
2 - Rumors and speculation around the COUNTRY are true, there is some bias, maybe not malicious or intentional, going on here. Maybe an ulterior motive (ESPN Said it best when, presenting this story, Matt Light will be available to play Pittsburgh!)

I love the NFL, so I'd like to believe #2 just isn't true. So that only leaves reason #1, which, unfortunately, is equally dismaying.

I'm giving the NFL the benefit of the doubt here, and would love a more thorough explanation for the fines. Mr. Aiello's response is too short, and paints the NFL in a bad light.

If anyone has any other emails, I'd like to send it there as well.
