I'm not too surprised. I kinda feel sorry for those guys, to not win a single game is pretty sad. "The Detroit Lions' pursuit of at least one victory in 2009 will have to come without Rod Marinelli, who has been fired as coach, a source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen. The Lions lost to the Green Bay Packers 31-21 on Sunday, making them the first team to go winless through a 16-game season. The 1976 expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-14) were the last NFL team to complete a season without a victory." ESPN - Rod Marinelli's ouster follows Detroit Lions' 0-16 season
Well he will be in the TEAM PHOTO in NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, OH for years, and years, and years to come!!!!!
No kidding...I dont think 11-5 would have removed that taste out of my mouth, knowing that photo would be there and viewed by all fans roaming those halls. :shudder:
three coaches so far today, Crennell and Eric Mangini too... let the bloodshed begin. how long does Wade Phillips last? i predict that Jerry waits til he can maximize exposure for himself and the organization. unless someone puts the full court press on for Bill Cowher.
I actually don't think that guy is that bad of a coach. I would like to see him get another shot someday
Just like Cam Cam, you don't field an NFL team that loses that many games and still get consideration as a good head coach. A good head coach can manufacture a win or two under desperate circumstances.
Agreed, it just wasnt pretty. You cant lose every single game in a season and expect to be retained or rehired as a HC. He will likely land as a coordinator or position coach somewhere.
Its a shame for marinelli really, i feel bad for him. He didnt really have a whole heck of alot to work with thanks to matt millen.
