Yeah when you have Jonathan Baldwin and Dion Lewis, all bets are always off...still, I think UNC has enough sheer quality NFL defenders to neutralize them. That UNC defense featurs two NFL corners, an NFL safety, two NFL linebackers, and two or three NFL defensive linemen.
Taylor Price just ran a deep route in single coverage and blew by Ahmed Shakoor, but Theo Scott severely underthrew the thing and Shakoor easily had best position on the ball because he was trailing by 3 or 4 yards, caught it, except Price came up and stripped the thing to save the interception. Another reason I like the kid.
Noah Keller has gotten better as the season has gone on. He's all over it today. Needs to get that damn necklace chain of his under his pads though.
This game features two things you almost never see: a woman in the broadcasting booth, and a woman among the officials (the line judge, not the back judge, heh).
So, who are you really scouting at the Shrine game? Price looks like a nice player. One of those somewhat under the radar kids who can come in and make a difference on a team. He seems to have a good deal of intangibles. Never seems to be "out of the game" no matter how involved he actually is in terms of receptions etc.
Funny you say that as this game features something on the Ohio offense that I've not seen in the three other games of theirs I've seen this season...taking Taylor Price off the field in certain 2-WR formations. Questionable tactic, and it's not working at all.
I mst be a god damn idiot for taking Ohio in this game. I knew Theo Scott was a terrible quarterback. Knew it. Never trust a team with a terrible quarterback.
Boy, Frank Solich's team has really woken up. Still not doing much on offense, but on defense they are frisky as heck and even blocked a punt. You can see why this D is one of the most turnover prolific in the country. Everytime they tackle a guy, it's a gang tackle, and there are three guys actively trying to rip the ball. Every tackle. They're destroying the Marshall ground game, have been for the most part all game, but in the second half the Marshall passing game has gotten out of sync. Noah Keller has been playing like a man possessed. Taylor Price has a couple of nice catches now but there was one play where he caught one for a first down and seemed to run a little backwards causing a 4th & 1. Really if you ask me it was an awful spot, he had the first, and he started going backward because of contact. There have been a couple of snaps where he looked like he got off the ball late, but the Center has been snapping the ball early all game, almost causing some turnovers.
It's strange but that brings me to another point. That era of you don't need a good quarterback in the NFL seems to be over. Review the latest champions and things are back to normal.
Jonathan Baldwin is so sick. Everything he does, it doesn't just scream "NFL"...it screams "NFL Pro Bowl".
It screams 'I am greatness'. 5 years after turning out Larry Fitzgerald Pitt has a guy who might turn out to be even better and I can't actually believe I typed that but it's true.
Of all the other things to love about Marvin Austin, his hustle, especially to get to ball carriers on the perimeter, is just great.
Charles Brown is another corner like Amari Spievey who's off the radar a little bit nationally but could go really high. If he can eliminate some of those mental errors that I've seen a couple of times. Burney is the better cover guy, but Brown is an all rounder.
Dion Lewis is special. John Malecki is playing well in the middle for Pitt. He's giving Austin all he can handle in the middle of the line.
I have always liked Brown a little more than Burney but Burney is the guy that looks like he'll come out. I have no read on Austin coming out. As many plays as Brian Price makes, I still have to rate Austin higher. Greg Little is a heck of a receiver. He's blossoming big time.
But in the NFL, Wannstedt couldn't find his way to a decent receiver, now he has some. WTF is happening.
Still a big Romeus fan. He's not a world beater but he's a good player and an excellent pass rusher. He makes plays against the run, too.
Urban Meyer stepping down as head coach of UF. Huge news. Probably health reasons. He's got that brain tumor that gives him bad headaches when stressed.
ESPN is reporting that he has been to the hospital multiple times since Dec.5 with chest pains and now CFT is reporting that he had an in season heart attack.
I still think Greg Little's got some good potential. I didn't watch the complete game tonight as I was out but from what I did see, he looked good.
I wonder how many people will be clamoring for Damian Williams now after last night's performance? I hope people go back and look at his numbers while at USC - hardly overpowering in any regard. I'm not saying he's dog doo doo, but he does have a lack of production coming out of that program, considering some of the defenses he will see each season. There are some good teams in the PAC 10, but just as many as most pundits would like us to believe.
I watched a little of that Ohio/Marshall game this morning. One thing I noticed immediately about Taylor Price is that he isn't explosive out of his breaks on shorter routes.
Out as in injured or Out as a prospect? I watched the USC/BC game was a snoozer, no one really stepped up in my view, Williams made plays but he was clearly head and shoulders better than the BC secondary.
I'm on his bandwagon. If he's available in the second I am going to be hoping we take him. I would love to get Gresham and WIlliams with our first two picks.
With Urban Meyer stepping down you would have to think that most of the Florida juniors are going to be declaring as well.
He's not as fast as his timed speed either but he's still a vertical threat. They were expected to prior to his resignation.
Not denying he's got some game Al, he clearly has and as Chris highlighted, he didn't look like a prospect from Ohio when running the Tennessee secondary ragged, with the Thorpe winner manning the deep patrol. But a wily NFL corner who watches film on him will see that in shorter and intermediate routes, he plants his foot in the ground but doesn't have a burst when he changes direction. I'm a corner and I break on his break, I know I'm getting there first.
He's got a little bit of that Golden Tate issue where he doesn't really sink his hips in his breaks. But that won't be the reason that either player doesn't make it in the pros. The thing that will stand in Price's way from making it will be hands. I don't like that the guy feels the need to jump in order to catch balls on shorter or intermediate routes. He could use the Davone Bess treatment, standing in front of a JUGS machine morning to midnight every day for months on end.
Yeah, he's a potential rough diamond. But he's a way away from significant NFL impact. I think Tate displays much better body control in his routes than Price, but I agree that both, to a degree could show more short to intermediate range explosion. That said, Golden shows much better sghort area quickness. I also like wideouts who used to be corners which is what Tate is.
There are a lot of overrated WRs in this draft that I would take a Taylor Price over, though. I don't think his short breaks are awful and his deep speed is superb, good size, his hands are good enough to begin working on them and you can't replace the kind of fight that makes him play most snaps like the camera is on him even when it's not.
I wonder if Tate gets into the first round? His college production in terms of scoring is just ridiculous, and given the fact there is not amazing #1 (Dez Bryant will likely fall a bit due to not playing in roughly a year), he could make it in, especially with Baltimore looking for help in this area.
