I need to setup my DVD-ROM drive in my PC too, so I can get the few Wii games I want to play into the Dolphin emulator.
My wife played Paper Mario on the Gamecube too. Interesting concept. She really enjoyed it. Plus, its how I explain the way I see 3D movies to people - one flat plane in front of another, moving seperately.
There's a Paper Mario series, and the specific game I'm talking about is Super Paper Mario. It was originally planned for the Gamecube but then cancelled for the GC and released on the Wii as a launch window title. The Paper Mario she played was most likely Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. Super Paper Mario is an action RPG type game that plays a little bit like a standard Mario platformer, with a very unique twist; you can rotate the 2D landscape into a 3D world. Well I....failed....at Lightening Returns. Can't remember the last time I played any video game where that could even happen. The game is maddening. I'll start over on easy mode, but not right now. 18 frickin' hours of gameplay. Thats it. Bah.
Child of Light just came out and is a turn based RPG as I understand it. Aside from that, it's still Golden Week on PSN, and lots of RPGs are on sale.
Read a few previews/reviews. Looks like another one that revolves around kids. Also don't like the "soft animation" style.
Decided to jump back into LOTR: War in the North again after a few years. On my first playthrough, I got stuck in a boss fight when the game autosaved. Apparently, I had to have chosen to level up a particular ability and chose not to, as it didn't fit with the way that I play. Because I couldn't use it, I couldn't beat the boss and was stuck. Im going to super level this time through to make sure I don't fall into any other traps. Just max out every skill.
Got the FFX/X2 HD remake from my wife for fathers day and I'm loving it even more than I expected to. Really missed paying this kind of game, even if there's no surprise in the story since I've played the game before. I love grinding/leveling the party. Already put more than 20 hours into it. It looks better than I expected it to as well. Really hoping they do the same for FF12. My ultimate dream is a total ground floor up PS4 remake of 6 or 7, but thats likely a pipe dream.
I'd love an HD remake of FF12. Emulating it via PCSX2 puts the original version to shame. Dragon Quest 8 needs a remake as well. Don't expect a remake of FF7 basically ever, though.
I totally believe you on 7, but it just seems odd to me. Business wise, you'd have to think it would be a gold mine, and they'd make a profit no matter the cost put into it. Is it just a cultural thing / artistic decesion from Square?
6 was just remade for ios, and it's terrible, so i doubt we'll see another port of it anytime soon. I think 7 has a shot, but Square is going to need to get it's act together for it to happen. The foray into HD gaming was really bad for Square last generation, but if they hit it out of the park with FFXV and KH3 i think a 7 remake would finally be on the table.
It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't a remake. It was just a graphical update retaining the same style as the original. Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV had true remakes. The reasons I listed are the actual reasons Squenix has stated. It'll be years if ever. Hopefully they'll release a PC version though.
We'll see what 15 is. So far, Im cautiously optomistic, but it seems to have some of the same gameplay style as 13-3, which I hated. At the very least, it seems to have a large party.
I don't think you need to worry about XV being like XIII in any flavor. Final Fantasy VII is $4 on Steam for the next couple of hours.
