I am reading Dave Ramsey's book "The Total Money Makeover" It is an outstanding book of how to get control of your life, and get out of debt. I highly recommend the book as I have just started it. Dave has a great show on The Fox Business Channel which is 359 on direct tv at 5:00pm pacific time, Monday through Friday. Very good and informative show. Here is his website as well. If you have not watched The Dave Ramsey Show, you got to set some time aside and watch it. It is very good.
Dave Ramsey has a special on tonight about kids and money. It is on channel 359 on direct tv, or for those that have cable it is on the Fox Business channel. They are discussing allowances right now. Great stuff.
I and my wife have been on(and off) Dave's plan now for almost a year, and my wife and I are almost totally out of debt (some med. bills and a school loan left). You cannot imagine the peace of mind that comes with not having a huge car/credit card(s)/'stupid tax' payment every month. If I can secure a job in the next couple of months(looks pretty likely), than we should be able to put a good 20% down payment for a house in about a year and a half.:yay: I highly recommend both his books, The TMMO and Financial Peace. If you aren't religious, I would suggest picking up only The TMMO, as Financial Peace has more biblical input. I now pay cash for everything*including Christmas*, and if I don't have the money set aside, I don't buy it. I still am somewhat of an emotional-compulsive/splurge buyer, but thanks to Dave's mental *****-slap I decided to get myself under control and have been able to do so pretty regularly. I now view debt as a state worse than poverty, and I will pass this on to my children. 26 and debt-free?? You betcha.
