http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02/28/report-louis-delmas-visits-with-dolphins/ Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero 34m Free agent safety Louis Delmas visited the Dolphins today. Surprised we did not start with OLmen.
26 years old. 2 sacks and 3 INT's. He's a less consistent then Clemons.........but he makes more game changing plays. The usual trade off.
Skill set wise, he isn't much different than Clemons. Neither one gets many ints or pass breakups. I'd not pay more for Delmas than I'd pay to just keep Clemons. He is the most under appreciated member of the Dolphins defense, IMO. Clemons has also been more durable.
I know that I liked Delmas coming out of college better than Clemons...They are similar, but I think that Clemons has done more than Delmas since being in the league, but admittedly, I haven't followed him much...
Nothing special, injured often, watched him with Detroit, if they are not signing him with their suspect secondary then I'll pass.
Could be Coyle is looking to do another DB reclamation though. Good insurance in case something goes wrong with the Clemons negotiations or we try and fail to otherwise replace him. Would be interesting as a backup, but as a starter his injury history is way to concerning to think we can or should rely on him.
Hardly any more so than Dannell Ellerbe had been throughout his career. And Delmas, despite missing practice, did play in every game last year.
I've always been a fan of Delmas if we sign him that's fine with me as long as the money makes sense.
So that makes it ok to make the same mistakes? Yes he missed practice due to injury and it showed. I liked him coming out of WMU and was glad to see the Lions draft him, but he isn't anything special and unless the Dolphins sign him to a cheap low risk contract as a role player I don't think it's worth signing him, he isn't an upgrade.
Didn't stop them from signing Ellerbe, who has still YET to play all 16 games. IMO, Delmas is worth it if it's a shorter/cheaper contract because you're probably going to end up looking at another clean sweep going into 2015.
