I was already skipping Madden this year, with nothing being added to single player franchise mode. But come on, how in the world is X Howard only an 83???

Because the guys that make Madden don't really care about football, they only crank out vehicles for consumers to spend millions of dollars on yearly Madden Ultimate teams.

Yup. That's the sad reality for most video games these days. They aren't making them for the diehard player who wants to put a lot of time into a deep, engaging game against the computer anymore. Its all maximizing profits for the ones who play online. But its been especially crushing for sports games in the last 5 to 10 years.

As it stands, I'm done with Madden until they change how they operate. I'm keeping an eye on the computer sim Front Office Football 9, which may or may not be released this Autumn.

Unfortunately EA has so much money the decision to loose NFL rights to other developers will be strictly an NFL-based decision.

They are indie developers, but the guys behind Doug Flutie Maximum Football 2019 and Axis Football 2019 look to have made some nice progress on their games this year. Motion capture and improved graphics; plus Maximum has a college mode to allow you to have up to 130 teams in Dynasty mode. Axis has you assembling a coaching staff of 16 (no word on whether drug use will be an issue).

I plan to pick up both games this year, so I'll leave some impressions next month.

The Doug Flutie game does look to have promise. I would pay $60 tomorrow for someone to make Generic College Football 2020 with all of the features that NCAA used to have but fake, plain teams.
