So I am hanging out here at my house, the first time I've had any time to relax in about a month, and what should interrupt my afternoon of well-deserved rest and relaxation? A danged Magazine Salesman.
Now I'm not proud of my upbringing, I even worked as a telemarketer in high school. At least that was over the phone - I got hung up on a lot - but these folks really drive me crazy. They show up at my door at what invariably ends up being the worst time for me, always with some kooky story about how they are only a few points away from wrapping up a trip to Italy, and I can help them win! What's even more mind numbing to me is that my neighborhood is "no solicitation" - yet I still get these turds showing up on my doorstop.
So because of my irritation, I googled "magazine scam" and found some information, but not the scoop I was hoping for. I'd like to use this as a jump-off point for discussion.
- Have you ever (or do you currently) sold magazines door-to-door?
- Have you ever purchased magazines from someone who stopped by your house?
- Does this happen everywhere in the country, or just where I live?

I just answer the door nude with a bottle of cooking oil in my hand........they usually just walk away

And with phone soliciters......i go to Ebaumsworld.com and use the soundboards to talk as jack black or al pacino....always fun! -
We don't get salesmen of any kind in the town I live in. I thought that was a thing of the past.
Now we do get the Jehovah's Witness. -
Still doesn't make them any less annoying though. -
I like to invite them in to have a discussion about my Lord and Saviour, L. Ron Hubbard and the teachings of Scientology.

I did sign up for a couple of subscriptions like that one time. I never received the first magazine, though. So that was a lesson learned. To be honest, I don't believe it was a scam - my check was never cashed. I just think that the girl wasn't very responsible.
In any event, I make it a point to be civil, but firm. I just tell them I'm not interested, thank you anyway. Good luck. Then I shut the door. You just have to be quick. -
I got suckered into buying a magazine off one of these people at my school. Chick was cute and next thing I knew I was at the ATM machine pulling out 20$...I got the magazine so i wasnt completely scammed or anything. They come to my door pretty frequently as well. Just say not interested and close the door.

I dont think the mag thing is a scam, not like those dirty Melaleuca and Amway D-Bags...

Wow, that really was coherent. I cant even think in full sentences until I have caffeine in the morning.
