I guess because he is a billionaire, he has no problem conducted an employee search for a position which is already filled and the individual already in the job has no idea his position is being offered to someone else. Because that is exactly what Ross did when he tried to hire Harbaugh while Sparano was still the HC of the team.

Of course the benefit of being a billionaire is that you can screw up big time and still give an extended contract to the same guy your were trying to replace. I imagine that is what you meant when you stated that a self made billionaire knows how to run an employee search. At least this time he actually got rid of the person he is trying to replace, before interviewing any other candidates for the position.

You seem to be forgetting that Gaine and the rest of the scouting personnel are still on the staff. I'm sure they possess the requisite skill-sets to scout the Senior bowl. Call me when the Dolphins don't have a GM at the start of free agency.

Whomever the Dolphins hire, by default, will not have been the best candidate as per LBsFinest stringent evaluation standards.

Just read somewhere that when the Bears hired Phil Emery a couple of years ago, it wasn't until Jan 28th. No problem.

You do realize that "sources" have been a part of journalism from time immemorial right?

Ever hear of Woodward and Bernstein? They broke Watergate on the information of an anonymous source

With something like this, there is no way to completely verify it if the team won't speak on the record.

In this case the source is absolutely someone within the team who wants it known that Ross is taking this seriously.

As long as the source doesn't burn Mando trust builds and Mando gets his stories and the source gets his message out. That's the way it works

not really. You can't verify it. And they don't have to help you verify it.There is also no way to really verify the source is someone with first hand knowledge. Not to mention the sources info could be based on second hand knowledge, rumor, innuendo, etc.

yeah...because what they were dealing with was the defamation of the president of the united states, arguably at the time the most powerful man in the world. Speaking out against him meant losing your job and potentially the rest of your professional life.

What we're dealing with is a professional football team. If a some stupid scout or another GM even is truly saying some **** about us, have some ****ing balls and allow your name to get printed. They won't lose their jobs, their careers won't be threatened. They just want to be smug but don't want to be called out on it.

That's assuming these little pansy *** sources are even real.

Ross is stalling until he can talk Bobby Beathard out of retirement. We can get three good seasons out of him before he turns 80.

The fact that he's hiring an executive with a lot of power and not someone for middle management enhances everything I said, it doesn't diminish it. It's a high profile and very public process that's in the spotlight. Tact needs to be taken. Ross may be a billionaire but that doesn't mean he has any clue on hiring etiquette in the NFL.

Ross is just not a very good owner. I thought getting rid of Ireland would bring Miami back to the days of being a sought out destination, but we have an owner who has no ****ing clue how to own a professional sports team.

And those of you who continue to believe that the ever growing list of members of media are lying about their sources or are involved in some vast media conspiracy are kidding yourselves. But if it helps you sleep at night...

It doesn't matter. There are only 32 GM jobs in the NFL. It's obvious from Lazor's comments that Philbin has more juice in the coaching community than he has on fan websites and Aponte has squared away the salary cap.

I'm hoping for 2 hires. A GM and a DOO.

I'd like Khan or Mangini as director of ops and Licht or Xanders as the GM so far.

I dont think its a media conspiracy. I think its mainly media idiocy...which should surprise noone.

Beyond that, I want to hear why Ross is clueless. Nothing said so far gives mr that impression. All I've heard is he's being too diligent.

Has there ever been a term ever more vague and far reaching than "team source"? Hell, anytime we get some article based on info gleaned from a team source, people go running around like Chicken Little yelling that the sky is falling. Makes me sick.

And every guy there has a ton of game tape that can be watched, and I'm sure there is tape of the game and practices for that event as well. No reason to rush the process.

Apparently none of you are familiar with how journalism works. You protect your sources or you cease to have sources. So you can keep conjuring up stories about how everyone in the media are idiots making things up and that none of these sources really exist; or you can swallow the hard pill and come to terms with the fact that at least some of these sources are real. At least some of this criticism is happening. Now if you want to debate whether it's rational or warranted that's one thing. But to continue to write off every single source and to continue to deny their existence ignores logic and basic journalism practices.

You don't know how journalism works.

You don't have to name a source, but you would quote them, that way what is being said is their opinion and not the author's. LaConfra doesn't do that.

Furthermore, how they refer to their sources in the article is telling and intentional. Saying someone is a "source close to numerous players" could be anything from an agent to chiropractor to a stripper. If they say it s a "league source" that could mean anyone from Goodell to a maid employed by the NFL. Its not your fault you don't understand this stuff, it is however your fault that you think you can "educate" people who know more than about it than you.

Let's also stop with the BS notion that the media today follows the media rules of yesterday. These guys are not paid for accuracy, they are paid for clicks/views/reads etc, because that's what gets the company they work for advertising dollars. Accuracy doesn't bring in the customers like hate and bickering does.

Which, by the way, can be traced precisely to Woodward and Bernstein. After getting away with a non identified source in Deep Throat, journalists after that began to cast further and further for speculative possible news sources which they hoped would get them the next "BIG STORY" and make their journalistic careers take off. Ten years before, no one ever challenged a sitting President on almost anything!

I'm amazed at the blind hate.

Why would Ross be on the phone and not paying attention in an interview?
