Alen, and myself were chatting via twitter and I told him that the Colts were a good candidate to win the suck for luck derby, he scoffed and said "not as long as Peyton Manning is still there..."
Serious stuff, ended the semi great Bert Jones's career.

Well, weird really, like skipping summer after spring and going right into winter, he was the guy in Indy forever it seems like.

I hate to say it, but I think we have seen the last of Peyton on the field. Spinal surgery in the cervical area is not something anyone, let alone football players, recover from quickly, and often, completely.

Yeah, this isn't like a knee injury where you're out two or three weeks (or in the case of some of the more serious ones, the season), this is a place where one wrong move could leave you paralyzed or dead. I kept telling people when Manning was activated off the PUP list that the Colts would be stupid to risk that kind of thing for his streak. Now he has time to heal, rehab and recover. Good call by both Indy and Manning...I wish him a full recovery (or as full as it can be).

I heard somewhere recently that Peyton's brother Copper had a similar situation end his football career. In other words, this could be hereditary, at least in part.
I too fear Peyton's playing days may be over. For the sake of Colts fans, his fans, and the game itself, I hope I am wrong. Peyton is a class act, and one the best QB's to ever play IMHO. If his career is cut short by something like this, it will be truly unfortunate. -
I think Collins may surprise a little. Colts will most likely be a mediocre team with Collins at the helm. The Colts don't have a complicated offensive scheme.... Manning MADE it more complicated at the line. I don't think ANYONE is expecting Collins to be a sergeant of the field like Manning was.... just manage the offense and let the weapons do the work. If he can hold the fort for a few months, Manning MAY be back by week 12/13.

FWIW, I thought the Colts should have taken a run at Vince Young. -
-
Seriously. -
Don't think it'll happen but emailed a friend August 3rd and said what would make me cry was if Peyton hurt his neck week 1 and was out for the season, then they got Luck for when Peyton retired.

So, can he still host SNL?

Aaron Rodgers all over again. -

Colts are by far the worst team in the league.

To many draft misses, Ugoh, Brown, Hughes for example, is catching up to them. -
I think Indy's problem is that their D seems designed to play with high powered offense (their speed is deadly when they can play with a lead). I expect that their offense will not be high-powered w/o PM. They will be forced to play more snaps against balanced offensive play calling. So all that defensive talent won't look as good as they're forced to play more often in situations that don't fit their strengths.

I'm not a fan of Jim Caldwell. -
I wonder how he did injured himself? He throws to receivers constantly in the regular offseasons.
