Dwayne Wade and Lebron James both play in the same city. I don't think it's the city. We are just losing. The only way to build a team is through the draft, ask the past few SB winners save for maybe the Saints. Peyton Manning is not the answer....Matt Flynn...may be the answer...but hell....draft Ryan Tannehill. Worse case scenario...throw Matt Moore back in there. We start winning and the bad dream is over. We keep losing....this dream will be longer than Inception.

 

Before we blame Ross / Ireland it will be important to try and figure out and understand why Peyton Manning rejected the Dolphins if and when he does.

As to your point about blaming the fans if he doesn't, that's just ridiculous. Wasn't it fans who paid for the "Manning to Miami" billboard?

 

It's funny how people are thinking in terms of 'losing' something we don't have. I think thats a big part of the anger, people have gotten that ownership thing where they are already picturing Manning in a Dolphins uniform, and now they don't want to 'lose' him. This principle as most will know is the basis of sales, get the customer to imagine owning the item and you are home and dry.

We don't own Manning however. If he goes to the Broncos it because they have a better roster and more cap room. This idea that it's about some kind of special Miami Dolphins aura that we have lost is frankly delusional. You win, you are popular (unless you win a lot like the Pats and everyone hates you), you lose and nobody pays you attention. It's that simple.

South Florida isn't broken. We just keep making bad draft and personnel decisions. The fan base has a depressive outlook at the moment so it's interpreting bad events as evidence that everything about us is wrong, that we are fundamentally flawed. We just need to pick better players in the draft, and if we don't do a good job this year the guy picking the players needs to change. If that doesn't happen then that will be something to genuinely criticise Ross for.

Until then, like you said, new season, new hope, let's see how it goes.

 

As stated above I would love to hear his reasoning as to why he hasnt even decided to visit and speak with the dolphins considering he was right around the corner a couples times recently. Ireland has cost us a few times already, we'll see what the future holds.

Many of us are disappointed in Ross' performance as an owner. He's missed on Harbaugh, dissected any chance of Sparano being successful in 2010 because of the Harbaugh fiasco, missed on Fisher and probably on Manning. That's not a very good legacy for him. That said, there were mitigating circumstances in each...starting with the fact that Harbaugh simply didn't have Miami as a destination for his services. Fisher clearly had a better football situation facing him in Stl than in Miami and Manning likely isn't going to be the Manning we've seen before and Denver can offer a lot more than we can here, from a cap view and the rosters are fairly similar in talent...

The thing is that Manning rightfully is on his own schedule and we are up against the wall with FA... Ross desperately wants to upgrade the QB position so much so that he's considered a broken down Manning but now we have to look elsewhere because Manning simply isn't ready to make a decision and we have to move on if we're going to get anyone...

Where I'll agree on is that Ross has whiffed several times. He's made some really bad PR moves for this franchise as the owner. He needs to stay out of the process, publicly, and let the football folks do their thing...It's not about the fanbase or the area, it's about football decisions that aren't being made correctly...

You know what has held Miami back? They have constantly AVOIDED drafting their own quarterback high, developing said quarterback, and building the team around that quarterback. It all started when Jimmy Johnson came in and insisted on minimizing the quarterback position. It continued through Dave Wannstedt, who passed on drafting Drew Brees because he didn't want to hurt Jay Fiedler's feelings. Nick Saban passed the buck on when he didn't draft Aaron Rodgers. Randy Mueller passed on Brady Quinn, and Bill Parcells passed on Matt Ryan, neither of which was a bad decision to do but continued to show this organization's lack of emphasis on the quarterback position.

It's not a surprise that the last time Miami took a quarterback in the first round is the last time they had a franchise quarterback.

Signing Peyton Manning does nothing to fix this. It only extends it out further, because despite the fact that you think Miami will draft Ryan Tannehill even if they sign Peyton, it will not happen. Read Jeff Darlington's article on this. If Miami has ideas of taking Tannehill, Peyton will not sign here.

 

Although I dont see why not, I dont think Tannehill is ready for the NFL. Guess Manning dont want no one breathing down his neck.

 

Is it really that hard to see why Manning will not go for this? Manning will want whichever team he signs with to draft someone that can help him win now. Ryan Tannehill does not do that. Contrary to popular opinion, Peyton Manning is only interested in himself. He's not interested in doing what is best for the future of the franchise.

 

Only one team will get Manning, everyone else goes back to the drawing board. I, for one, will be ok with it. I'd like to draft Weeden or Tannehill anyways. Stick with Moore, get a pass rusher, we need to upgrade safety position before Bell is 98 years old, and we need a RT.

I live in NY. This morning I'm bouncing back and forth from WQAM to The Ticket and hearing whiney Dolphin fan after whiney Dolphin fan complain about how Ireland and Ross can't even get a meeting with Manning.

Get a grip, buy a clue, and pay attention.

There are easily 20 teams that wanted to at least Meet with Manning since his release. He has only met with TWO. And what those two teams have in common is a Head Coach who has coached in the Super Bowl.

If you are Manning and you are making a short list, you cross rookie head coaches like Joe Philbin off your list. Simple as that.

 

While I disagree with you about whether or not signing Peyton Manning is a good idea, the rest of your post, spot on. I made a whole thread on it not too long ago, but the fact that QB has been unquestionably our biggest weakness of the past 12 years and not 1 first round pick has been spent on the position is jaw dropping.

Where we differ is that I'd like to believe that either this year or next, we would still draft a QB in round 1. If it means Ireland and company would continue to ignore the position in the draft, then I'd be very ok with not getting Peyton.

 

Maybe we didn't even request him to come in for an interview..Cause Flynn or Tannehill was the plan all along.

 

I will defiantly blame Ross and Ireland for the losing out on Manning and so should you. They have created the Negative PR around this franchise, they have shown the NFL that they do shady and just plan "Weird" Business practices especially with the coaching hires. It's not the players fault or the fans that Manning may have a negative perception of this franchise because we didn't create the atmosphere that ROSS and Ireland have over the last few years. Correct or wrong Ireland has the reputation of being a class a dick around the league from what I have heard and seen. Ross is meddling owner with no NFL experience and thinks he knows better than others. RIGHT or wrong that is what the majority of people think about our front office.

They have done nothing but clam up and refuse to speak about issues of late and all this together would seriously make me reconsider Miami if I was Manning. So yes in a way if we don't land him it will be because he doesn't feel this organization is worth it and that I blame on Ross and Ireland..

PS for those who suggest we don't want him I have a bigger problem with that mentality as FLYNN and and Draft choice even LUCK or RG3 have proven NOTHING, were still rolling the dice. Tannehill I can see because Sherman was praising the hell out of him in some interviews recently. But Flynn, you don't replace a Moore with a Flynn its redundant. They are both middle of the road QBs with a Dilfer's chance at winning a super bowl. I think you are right, but I have to believe we are trying to get manning to meet with us if not epic fail on alot of fronts. I personally like Flynn and think Philbin had a system design and setup and the Manning thing just complicates where hes going. Possible the manning thing was a huge smokescreen to lower Flynn's asking price. On way or the other we will have a new QB this week I think..Tannehill wont be there at 8 I think he goes earlier and Im not sure he's an NFL elite QB hes a prospect with talent, Moore would beat him year one I believe.

 

Your probably right the Browns haven't done jack to resolve their QB issue, no Manning, no second pick, nothing.

It goes both ways. Ross wants to spend money, I live in Charlotte NC where I had to live through years of panther fans complaining about their owner being cheap and cutting veterans. I am happy I have the 2nd richest owner in the league and he is willing to spend whatever it takes to win. He just needs to get the right football guys in place to succeed. And with Irelands scouting ability and Philbin/Shermans offensive minds, I like where we are headed.

Who says that we really cared much about Manning in the first place. I said it already that our pursuit of Manning depended on Philbin's view of Flynn first and Sherman's view of Tannehill second. If Philbin believes Flynn is good enough, we wouldn't pursue Manning. They very well just might not care for Manning's health condition.

NFL.com ESPN.com Twitter every professional sports coverage analyst is saying were clueless in alot of these regards and scratching their heads at how were operating outside the normal NFL for months not hours! it's not me over reacting to a situation phins.. IMO, it certainly does have to do with the Miami surrounding area. Miami has changed immensely since Shula coached here. I grew up on the east coast and used to love Florida when I was young. All I can say is, it has changed and its not for the better. Only reason I even go to Florida now is to visit family. After living on the West Coast for 20 years I can honestly say Miami, regardless of its shiny large buildings, its cruise ships and all the rest is far behind the lifestyle of Southern California. Thru this whole Peyton saga i have felt Miami is the LAST place Peyton would end up. He owns a home, big deal, athletes own homes anyplace there is sun. But, IMO, Miami is no longer a place to raise a family. Visit, relax ? sure, but beyond that, nada.

On top of that and I posted my feelings since the Harbaugh screw up, nobody with any legit credentials wants to work for Ireland or even Ross. Laugh all you want or ignore it, thats your choice but I will still say as long as you have the Ross/Ireland duet running the Dolphins the only way we get decent people here is thru the draft or they will be at the end of their career just looking for a paycheck. Sorry if my feelings put some panites in a wad. IMO, it all started when Ireland and Ross went after Harbaugh while their HC was sitting in his office. Perception is now reality these days.

The only way you will get guys like Jeff Fisher and Peyton Manning are by sacrificing what the organization stands for. You get guys like that by bending over and giving them whatever they want. Thats what Wayne Huizenga did every time, and it led this franchise down the toilet. There is a reason why St Louis got Jeff Fisher instead of us. Its because they gave him the keys to the franchise. Miami refused, and rightfully so IMO.

To me, this is a very welcome change. Nobody is bigger than the franchise. Not Jeff Fisher, not Peyton Manning. We aren't going to bend over for these guys.
