With Martz the 49ers offense should be loads better this year so it comes with no surprise to me that he is harping on the offense's two best players. The question is who will be getting the football to these two players, Smith or Hill. If the offense can play to at least a 50% higher level with their defense they can improve to around a 7-9 to 8-8 level and in their division that could be a second place finish.
Now that they're in basically the same offensive system and their teams have similar problems along the offense (no OL, no QB, questionable WRs), it'll be fun to compare Gore with Willis McGahee this year.
