At 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, police and paramedics entered a mobile home in San Bernardino and discovered the body of Matt Cassel's father, Greg, a devastating trauma for Cassel's family and yet another shock to the Patriots. Greg Cassel's death, at 57, threw into question whether his son will play Sunday against the Raiders in Oakland, a must-win game for the Patriots in their late-season push for a playoff berth. Cassel did not participate in practice yesterday at San Jose State University, leaving the team to be with his family in Southern California. Coach Bill Belichick did not have a timetable for Cassel's return and did not say whether he expected Cassel would play Sunday. A spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coro ner's Department said the preliminary findings indicate Mr. Cassel, a former Hollywood script writer, died in his home of natural causes.

I think he will play ala Farve a few years ago, you have got to feel bad for the guy.anditsgood, sking29, Big E and 1 other person like this. -
Stunning really. I couldn't imagine losing a parent at 26 (Cassel's age). I always hate to hear something like this.

Clearly, not judging, its the reality that not everyone is BIG $$$$$ just by playing @ PRO level.:hi5: -
Marino's father continued to live in the same neighborhood even after Marino signed that huge contract. The only thing he would allow is a satellite dish so he could watch Phins games. I don't know if that has ever changed but that's just a good example I can give. I found that out from the Marino Sr. thread :(

League minimum is still enough to have a house with an extra bedroom for your father, or at the very least an apartment.
League minimum isn't bad money, it's more than most of us make here and normal people generally don't let their parents live in bad places if they have a good relationship. -
You would think, but dont know the details, dont know the choices made. Its odd though for that sentence to be part of the story, I didnt expect it.:hi5: -
I'm not saying it's his fault, I'm just saying he could probably afford it somehow even if it took a little squeeze. Maybe his father chose to live there of his own free will.
Regardless you have to feel for him and his family. -
Yeah, and the word "mobile home" doesnt have the same meaning today as it once did...some of these prefab - mobile homes - esp. double wides, etc are pretty sweet inside.

Hopefully he will still be able to suit up for them. It's tough losing one of your parents.
