No way! Thats exactly what Chris Johnson ran but Mays is built like a linebacker!

did he have to tackle or defend a pass or get in position to make a play during the 40?

great that he is fast....but in the NFL, that would only equate to him be the fastest player to take the bad angle...LOL

Like a golfer who can bomb it 350yd....OB most of the time.

May's is a solid Safety without that 40 time. If his time holds up that's simply amazing!

If this guy and his 230 lbs is running that fast I'm sorry but that's astounding!

This guy is NOT afraid of contact

I like fast guys too....but 4.24 (1st unofficial), and 4.34 (2nd unofficial) is only a small, small, part of this kids equation to NFL (and thats a big difference between 2 unofficial times)

    you feeling alright today bdh
    6-3 230 running a 4.24
    that is totally unbelievable
i know they say he plays stiff but still
that is unheard of speed at that size

But bro Mays is one of the top safety prospects in the draft. Its not like this is one unheard of or projected second day guy. I would love to see him in a Dolphin Uniform. Th only real knock on the guy is he tends to go for the Hit more then make a play on the ball, but he's always around the ball.

in an draft where I dont totally know who to take at 12, Mays is now a serious consideration at 12, for me anyway.......you gotta think, he comes from a pro-ready program at USC, 224....runs like the wind....hits....could that be the number 12??

If he's there you have to consider him. I mean really consider him. He's plenty large enough to put on TE's with amazing closing speed and tackling will NOT be an issue. Thats a LOT of problems solved.

If we take Taylor Mays at 12, I will gouge my own eyes out with a rusty fork.

I have a big time problem with selecting a linebacker to play the safety position.

Its good, my love for speed is overshadowed for what I have seen Mays do, and consistently fail to do at S. Not a fan @ #12 at all....(if we stay at #12...if we drop down to 20's then would be happier)

Top S based on other S in this draft isn't saying a lot. Again, not at #12.

lets trade back to 20's and fine...but not at #12. Just don't see it the film on him means so much more than this 40 time.....

I will end and give credit where its due...yes, at his size, sub 4.3 unofficial is crazy fast...but apropos of nothing, its irrelevant to his value at S.

i said that it is amazing that a guy with that size has that kind of speed
    elevates his stock tremendously

What does Taylor Mays do that is worthy of the 12th overall selection, other than run really fast?

I'm not a draft guru-type guy, but I've read alot of articles written by guys who are, and I've yet to read a single positive thing regarding this man and his "coverage" skills, which happen to be quite important, especially when considering a prospect at the safety position.

I concur for line 1 and 2, and line 3 for some other team perhaps to move up to #12, but not for us to take him @ #12.....was only making a statement of where I turn the WOW factor into a worthy draft value....was my own personal statement...

and I would be happy to see any of our current players run a 4.34 40 yard dash

My point exactly, what does Kindle, Williams, Pierre, etc of the other names I have seen do either??

All I'm saying is that other teams would consider it, especially if he has a good pro day...I would consider it as well, but only if everybody else I wanted was gone....and even then I dont think I would have the balls to do it...

When all is said and done with "any" players in the combine
game film and game production should be the number 1 consideration not certain individual track events.

Take player that excel at combine events then go back and study
all game film then make a decision.

Mays official time came back as a 4.43

    quite a distance from a 4.24

It's not, some dude just said "oops, never mind what he timed out at, we say he ran a 4.4.."

Which is simply bull****, if the 40's they are running are so inaccuate..why are they running them at all?

4.68.....I love this kids head, I hope he has a good pro day, and has good individual drill workouts too...maybe he runs a sub-4.6 on another run, but 8/10 is alot of time to make up....

even Haden's at 4.57 isnt good either....horrible for the "number 1" CB on the board....

consider this though Nappy, when somebody talked about Mays' 40 time, and his instinct level..

"At the Safety position, I'd rather have 4.55 with instincts than 4.30 without instincts. Good eyes more than makeup the difference in speed"

Lets also keep in mind that Rolle is a SS so while speed does matter its not quite as vital as it is to the FS position.

Teams do their own timing fy13, the NFLN stuff is just for our consumption.

Krripes, once I learned this all of the "he was a 4.3 guy! he was a 4.5 guy here is a link to his Combine numbers!!!" is just silly.

Teams do their own homework and do not share it with the public.
