Yea after the dust settles years down the road I think Griffey comes out as the top player of his era because he was just about the only clean one that put up the numbers. He would have been right there with Bonds if he hadn't gotten hurt so much.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit. Considering what that clubhouse must have looked like with Brady Anderson, Rafael Palmeiro and others juicing up, and Ripken's uncanny ability to get up and play everyday, I wouldn't be surprised if he did it as well. Not at this point.
I wouldn't be surprised as well. I am sure a few times he didn't want to continue the streak, and it was prolonged by some "extra" help.
Where are you guys getting this stuff about Ripken? I've never heard a whisper about him possibly doing roids. Thats a pretty big thing to throw out there if theres nothing to back it up.
No way he hits 825 but I see where your going. Since he got hurt in 2001 he has avg. 103 games since then, so its not like he has never been playing.
http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/2008/08/fox-hires-shawne-merriman-to-be-full.html "The Chargers linebacker will be an in-studio analyst for FSN's Pro Football Preview, which Fox says will be the first time a current player has served in a full-time capacity for any national pregame studio show for any sport. It is one thing to have somebody who played talk about what's going on each week, but to have somebody who is still playing takes our show to another level," Fox Senior Vice President Rick Jaffe said in a written statement. "The insight he will bring just raised the bar for every NFL pre-game show on television." Shawn seems to be thriving on his success actually.
It is indeed very unfortunate, but its Goodell's fault. He should have put the kabosh on Merriman doing any appearances in the public spotlight, with the focus of his being a football player. That would have killed any appearances from him, as I doubt he gets an appearance on The Martha Stewart Show talking about baking cookies or sewing a dress
I think it matters more to baseball fans because they place so much importance on numbers, and the sanctity of the game. I mean when you have a sport that is so focused on stats, and suddenly those stats are being inflated because of cheating it becomes a huge deal to baseball purists. In football it should still be a big deal, but I understand why it has a different perception.
I understand what you are saying, but its a total cheat to let Shawn Merriman get away with, and not only that but be rewarded for cheating. He serves a 4 game suspension and comes back like nothing ever happened.
Personally I think its not fair to Babe Ruth, or any of the old timers who didn't have the medical enhancements that the players today do, to let them use them.
