Serviceable.... he is that or can be , that however is different than being the guy you win with.
He has some value but if don't feel after three years you need to be looking for the QB to lead you through a playoff run because Henne is him , that is a foolish outlook imo.gunn34 likes this. -

He was an idiot for not praising Henne in the first place, and now he's a hero for suggesting Henne stick around.

So far, Eli Manning has been just "serviceable". Anyone know if he has one of those fancy-smancy Super Bowl rings? ;)

Kiper's opinion makes no sense.
He says that the guy is basically the same inconsistent guy he was at Michigan and will never improve mobility but it's too soon to move on?
What exactly does Kiper think is going to happen this off season that didn't happen during 4 years at Michigan and 3 years here?jdang307, DolfanJake, PhinGeneral and 1 other person like this. -

That is sort of the danger with Henne, he can look really good, the next week he looks terrible, Coaches being optimistic focus on the good and eventually get fired, perhaps that is why Nolan said he should have stuck with Shaun Hill over Alex Smith in SF. -
It's too hard and costs too much.
Let's just continue on trying to build an all star team around the mediocre QB we have now. Of course, if those all stars get hurt or elave via free agency we're pretty much screwed but whatever, the alternative is just too darn dificult.WVDolphan, DolfanJake and TheMageGandalf like this. -

I still have the 2009 home game vs the Jets on my DVR. It amazes me how well he played in that game. Imagine if he was that serviceable every game, we would probably be talking about how to beat the packers in 2 weeks.
That game has to be Henne's best complete game as an NFL quarterback. Catching Cam on the bootleg on 4th down, the bomb to Ginn, the floaty touch pass to Cam on the sideline that slipped right in perfectly....oh man, im getting goosebumps. Why cant he keep it together like this for every game? I went out and bought a Henne jersey after that game, it has now since been retired next to my collection of Taylor, Pennington, and probably Brown jerseys.
Just imagine if Henne played every game like that 2009 Jets home game? What did we do differently? Is it all on Henne? Ugh! I thought it was a coming out party! SMHdolfan7171 likes this. -

Mel Kiper hates us and is trying to destroy us by nudging for Henne to keep playing for us.
That's my totally non-paranoid interpretation.

The only thing you got right is needing a whole team to win..... but apparently you don't truly understand that concept b/c you think we're fine with our current group of non-playmaking, slow-poke possession guys. -
-
-
To think that we have all the pieces except one is unbelievably delusional...... and if you think either Cam, Locker, or Mallett is the missing QB with the cast we currently have, then you are sorely mistaken. -
-
It's never too soon to kick Chad Henne to the curb. Hell, the sooner the better. By the way, isn't Mel the same guy who ripped us a couple of years ago for taking Henne over Matt Ryan?

Henne needs speed and playmakers around him. The Jets 2009 game is an example. Ginn was a playmaker in that game, he came to play. Cam/Brown/Williams/Fasano were playmakers in that game.

I agree with mel.

having said that however, finding even serviceable QB's are not a given in the NFL.
It means that in no way do you scrap the kid. You work with him, challenge him and get the most you can out of him while you continue a search for that "top guy". Some people on this board just assume anyone will be better than Henne and I can tell you that's absurd.
We should continue working with him to reach the top of whatever talent level he has.
There are enough questions about him though that we should be seriously looking at investing in other prospects.
Why is this middle ground so unnacceptable for some?
Some think QB's grow on trees and immediately develop?Hellion, siciliansith, ToddsPhins and 1 other person like this. -

This team has other issues.
We've all known that though.
Where this "QB away from a championship" mentality has come from all of a sudden is puzzling.ToddsPhins likes this. -
Oops..I meant Jimmy, oh well. As to Ryan v. Henne, I suspect that had Ryan been drafted by Miami, our coaching staff would have destroyed him and we would be having the same discussions.

No waaaaay man!! You mean to tell me that Kiper was correct when he said that the #3 overall draft pick would play better than a second round draft pick? That guy is mad smart dude! MAD smart!xphinfanx likes this.
