that is funny, millions of women pay a lot of money for those lips. I guess it shows how different strokes for different folks. Those lips made her famous. Well among women. You know what lips made her famous among men.
Saw the movie the second time. I loved it just the same. I love that movie. I didn't realize HOW MUCH forshadowing one movie could have. Holy crap was that movie full of foreshadowing.
Answer: What is her Brother's for $500 please! http://archive.salon.com/people/col/reit/2000/03/28/nptues/index.html
Well, I do hope there's a Catwoman role and I hope it's well cast. I'm sure there are plenty of people who get turned off by those lips. Don't get me wrong though, I think she's hot but just not a fan of the lips. But yea, different people have different likes. And if they like lips that big, well, there should be a local aquarium nearby.
I'm turned off by how fake Jolie looks. And she just isn't my type. But if she fits a role that Nolan or whoever writes the film creates then I guess I'd be ok with it.
Just Dark Knight for the 2nd time (saw it on Friday and today). Whoever said there was a ton of foreshadowing is absolutely right. Was even better the 2nd time.
This guy built his own Tumbler. http://gizmodo.com/5033451/diy-batman-tumbler-is-nearly-perfect-built-with-one-mans-bare-hands
IMDB is pathetic. There should be a limit for voting. Bunch of children gathered together and voted The Dark Knight 1/10 to knock it down. There's no way a movie can go from 9.7 to 9.1 that fast.
It's a bunch of movie snobs who cant stand to see a "comic book" movie ranked ahead of a Citizen Kane. Though, the rankings on IMDB are pretty flawed, and TDK while amazing, doesnt really deserve to be the highest rated movie of all time.
Yeah I found it hard to justify TDK being rated at 9.5 and 9.7 while the likes of The Godfather was at 9.1.
And this is the reason why Ledger won't win Best Supporting Actor and TDK won't be nominated for Best Picture.
Very possible. I find it hard to justify Ledger not at the least getting a nomination (and probably the movie as well).
We watched the same Iron Man movie, right? Tony Stark became Iron Man to correct his numerous mistakes and do better with the wealth and status he inherited; Bruce Wayne became Batman because crime ruined his life. One is redemptive, one is vindictive. That's not to say one is better than the other, but come on, don't try to denigrate Iron Man to prop up The Dark Knight. Neither movie needs to tear down the other to look better. I finally saw The Dark Knight yesterday, and Heath Ledger turned in an all-time great performance. This and Batman Begins make DC's comics look even worse than they actually are. It's sad that Chris Nolan can portray Batman in this manner, but the comics are content with villains of the month and goofy, SNL-like plots. That said, I'm not sure it's a better movie than Iron Man. While it's better to compare Iron Man with Batman Begins instead of TDK, Iron Man did just as many things correctly--and it's not a sequel. After the events that created Two-Face, I thought TDK should have ended. Instead they compressed what should have been the third movie. Now they're in the awkward position of having to make a third movie with no Joker and no Two-Face. That's a pretty tall order, especially as Marvel gets ready with Iron Man 2, Captain America, Wolverine, Fantastic Four 3, Magneto(?), and Thor, all leading up to an Avengers movie in 2010. IMO, they'll go with Riddler and Catwoman; Catwoman will provide a contrast to Rachel, Riddler will be a thinking man's Joker.
I agree with you Desides about the silly plots in DC's comics. Reminds me of when Todd McFarlane started animating the Spider-Man comics. They reeked of bad 70's and 80's pop culture stench before he made Peter Parker's alter ego cool again.
I just don't like the idea of the Riddler being the "Thinking man's joker". Unless he is just so brilliant that he looks down on all human beings as being sub human. I just have the fear of the Riddler becoming Joker-light
The Joker is the psycho killer of the series. They need to find a way to distinguish The Riddler, but still make him a serious foe. I always thought he was too silly of a character for the new saga. We'll see.
I love when people actually refer to Batman as "do gooder". the more mdoern version of Batman has him that way. But originally Batman was supposed to be as the movie's name indicates - "The Dark Knight". He isn't ahero by any means. You're right he is vindictive, searching for the hole within etc. He feels compelled to do this not of good or love of his fellow man, but b/c of his hatred of criminals - and the sense of helplessness he once felt. He feared them, and he know wishes them to fear him on a subconscience level almost. Like the voice in your head, only with the ability to kick the crap out of you. Anyone ever noticed how violent Batman is to his "arrested" criminals. He never lets up, and usually incapacitates them. By the way, we haven't seen the Penguin yet either - lets not forget about him. And I don't think they planned on having Ledger dead. Chances are after the script and performance were turned in by ledger as the Joker, who would you ahve squeezed out of air time? Two Face or Joker? Hands down Joker would win, if the performance was duplicated. Ledger's performance I thought was abunch of ballyhoo until I saw he film. Stunning, period.
LeBatard yesterday with David Sampson said that Nolan is going to do the last installment and that he is looking at Johnny Depp to play the riddler, Angelina Jolie to play Catwoman and Phillip Seymore Hoffman to play Penguin.
As opposed to being a goofy over-the-top character out of place in this more serious Batman universe?
Everyone keeps dishing out that "rumor" of Depp, Jolie, and Seymore Hoffman. I've seen no proof as to any of it, even that Nolan is coming back. And I don't think they could have kept Two-Face. It would have made the Joker unsuccessful in turning Batman into the Dark Knight. If Dent doesn't turn, kill people, and then die, the Joker is just a guy who likes to blow some things up. Because Dent dies he succeeds in being Batman's nemesis.
so Ive got a question and since I don't want to read to much of this thread since I don't want to read any spoilers, did those who liked this movie like the last one batman begins, or did they not like it, or did they think it was really good? I ask because I'm a big fan of the last movie. And I really like the first two.
I really liked Batman Begins. I thought it was a pretty solid setup for TDK. TDK takes it to the next level. It's The Godfather Part II of comic book movies. I used to think Spiderman 2 deserved that label but TDK bumped it. I don't see any reason why if you liked Batman Begins you wouldn't like, possibly even really enjoy, TDK.
The Depp/Jolie/Hoffman rumors appear to be nothing but message board rumors that have caught hold. I doubt any of that came from any real source within the studio. I hope it's true that Nolan has agreed to do the 3rd one, but I'll wait for something official before I get my hopes up.
How in the hell did Titanic get that many people buying tickets? It was just as long as TDK, if not longer, and it was a story about a freaking boat sinking. Did that many people really want to see Kate Winslet's boobs? And is Star Wars counting the re-release?
Mostly a bunch of girls wanting to see DiCaprio I believe. And it wasn't as violent as TDK so that could be a factor too. I'm not sure if that final tally includes the re-release but regardless, thanks to inflation, most people in the industry aren't really looking at box office numbers as much as they do actual ticket sales numbers. Adjusting for inflation, Gone with the Wind, Star Wars, and Sound of Music would be #1,2,3 with TDK around 49th and Titanic 6th.
Yeah I'm sure violence has something to do with it. DiCaprio too, but the ladies have Bale in TDK. I think DVDs, BlueRay, and home theaters have something to do with it too. Some people just might not like the movie going crowd, which is understandable given my experience with my lastest viewing of TDK. I don't want to sound too pompous in my love for the TDK. I'm rooting for it to keep the success going. I'm not going to say it should break all time records though.
I did. Love KW... Fact of the matter is Titanic had such a varied audience. Everyone saw it. Imagine if Dark Knight had the older generation. It would crush Titanic. What was the last movie that was #1 for four straight weeks? SW: ep 3?
True, though that whole Leo business blew sky-high back then and you probably can't find something like that for ages. I remember reading newspaper and magazine articles where girls were going for their 20th viewings of Titanic. Yea, I can understand the movie crowd playing a factor in the decline of movie theaters in general. People bringing little kids into TDK kinda ruins things when they start bawling and screaming. I know it's a comic book superhero but unfortunately for them, it's not the traditional superhero movie form. Well, I'm glad TDK has found success (though I wish it wouldn't break my all-time fave movie Star Wars' record).
