I call BS. No way this is a serious attempt. I don't trust anything in the media until Goodell gets on stage.

I called it! I knew once I saw we were brining every 2nd/3rd round LB in for a visit I knew Jake Long was the pick.

True but maybe they saw something in Chris Long in the LB drills and didn't like? Long is going to be a great RT probably pro bowl his first year. However the question is if we can plug him at LT.

I think we could take 2 or 3 O-linemen in the draft.

Guys Zuttah/Greco. I would love to have Hercules Satele paired up beside his brother.

this news doesn't really surprise me. o-line is one of our biggest needs, and with JT supposebly sticking around, that kind of drops chris long down the list of priorities. At least this way we would fill one of our biggest needs with a guy who should be able to contribute right away.

Id be happy with either Long, and probably even gholston though.

    Wow...

I guess we'll find out if this is a ploy soon enough...

But in all honesty...why would it be a ploy? We've got the #1 pick.

Its not like we have to worry about someone taking the guy we want ahead of us. I mean, if we said we are going after Ryan then knowing someone like Atlanta wants him then OK it might be a ploy but I dont see it with Jake Long.

Unless we want the other teams to think that with us taking Jake Long they will fall in love with Chris or someone else and when we pick someone other than Jake it'll throw a wrench in their plans and they freak out and want to trade with us at that point....

This has been the obvious pick IMO.....you have a chance for a franchise LT you take him!! Ecspecially when you basically have nobody on your roster on the OL.

THis is the right pick and I cant wait till it's official.

You would really be upset? I know I have a different person in mind I would like to see drafted number 1, but I'm comfortable admitting that Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland know a hell of a lot more than I do and will do what's best for the Dolphins. Whoever he decides to pick will not upset me.

And I wouldn't be surprised if next week, they are negotiating with Chris Long and/or Glenn Dorsey....nothing is too shocking this time of year. I'm still leaning slightly more towards Chris Long, myself, but wouldn't be too disappointed in Jake...

Very good news for me, I've swung over to wanting Jake about 2-3 weeks ago. Think this is the best move for this team right now. I would have been happy with either Long, but feel Jake gives us the anchor on our OL we so desperately need.

I personally would rather draft C Long but wouldn't be completely disappointed with seeing J Long in a Phins jersey.

But why couldn't it be a ploy?

Who really knows which teams that are hardcore interested in which player?

The Falcons OL is just in bad of shape as the Phins. And maybe their f-o is counting on the Dolphins to pick C Long..

The Rams are said to be in love with J Long.. Depending on how deep that love is you don't think that they would trade up to get him?

Id only want Gholston if we were running a 4-3. I think he will be the best DE in the class if he goes to a team that runs a 4-3.

I'm sure they will negotiate with a few players before the draft to see who is willing to sign and not be a PITA holdout, that's an important thing to know before you make your selection. The Raiders supposedly negotiated with both Russell and Quinn, if I remember correctly. It could also be a ploy to drum up interest in the pick. Doesn't mean too much right now IMO.

I think Gholston could be a great WLB in the 3/4, even better than a DE in the 4/3.

Good move. This is all about leverage in bargaining with the top draft pick. We're a good 3 weeks (roughly) away from the draft, and having all of the ducks in a row prior to going in is a very smart move.

I know, right? Looking at the teams directly below us, I can't imagine any falling in love with Jake Long to the point that he's the only OT they would be okay with. There are so many other quality OTs ranked high, if I'm a GM thinking to draft an OT with my first pick, I'm fine with waiting for Clady or Otah.
I just think that Parcells and Ireland are resigned to the fact that they're not going to be able to trade that pick and want to find out if Jake Long is going to be affordable. I would imagine they might even have some preliminary contract talks with Chris Long's agent, though. I'm just happy to hear that the prevailing thought appears to be to get our 1st pick under contract before the draft.
This will have a domino effect that will in turn help us with getting our #32 pick signed. That one might prove a difficult contract to negotiate. Does he get a little more since the #32 pick is normally a 1st round pick? Or does he get treated like the 1st pick in the second round? Which is what he'll be.

If the Rams are locked in on Jake Long as their replacement for Pace, if they feel he is a better prospect than Clady or Otah, who are we to argue? This might be Parcells and Co. gauging what it will take to sign the top 2 or 3 players that they are considering at #1 or it could be Parcells doing exactly what he said in his book that he will do to get the edge......smokescreen. :wink2:

Could very well be a smoke screen if they negotiate with the top 3 or 4 players with hopes that a team really wants a specific player and doesn't want Miami to grab him first.
Me personally, I could see the reasoning in drafting Jake Long since our offensive line has been bad longer than most of the other positions on the team. Look how long they have neglected the OL except for Satele last year and Carey. There are 3 or 4 players I wouldn't be disappointed with using the first pick including Jake Long.

Just saw Mort report on ESPN. He said that Parcells is doing this to make sure that the Phins don't overpay for a guy thats never played an NFL down. He also said the Phins would be bringing in other potential number ones for the same purpose, to avoid a hold out, etc. He mentioned that Matt Ryan and his agent would not be among those visiting.

Another interesting thing is Parcells is quite fond of telling people that he was the only guy out there who thought Jumbo Elliott could play LT. Everyone else in the league pegged him as a RT. So maybe it's Jumbo part II? Maybe Parcells is the only guy who thinks Jake can play LT?

That would also give 2 first rounders and 2 2nd rounders on the OL

You may be right, too. Time will tell. :hi5:
my own preference is probably Chris Long. Then picking the best OT left on the board at 32.
