There are plenty of Vets floating around who could fill a role or three in 010 for us: http://profootball.scout.com/a.z?s=127&p=9&c=12&yr=2010&nid=83&lnid=83&rc=16&pid=22 http://profootball.scout.com/a.z?s=127&p=9&c=12&yr=2010&nid=83&lnid=83&rc=16&pid=23 -Greg Ellis -A thomas -Ogunleyae Safety is a wasteland though: http://profootball.scout.com/a.z?s=127&p=9&c=12&yr=2010&nid=83&lnid=83&rc=16&pid=33 The only name that stick out is Jermaine Phillips, but he is a SS, and was arrested for spousal abuse..and we just lost Merling, no need to replace him..
Serious payback for JT..... I like this lil back and forth between us and the Jets. Pennington for Feely. JT for Douglas. Hopefully we can go Harris for Crowder.
coolness. merling was gonna be nothing but a rotation guy anyway. if this FO had confidence in him, we wouldnt have taken odrick. Can't wait for preseason to see these guys hitting people. A lot of changes to look forward to on both sides of the ball.
He and Ricky know each other from the NOLA days. I like the move, especially on the eve of Training Camp, a part of me wouldn't have minded Vonnie Holiday returning though. 63 tackles is a large number for a 3-4 DE. Now if they can land a Vet OLB to provide insurance and who knows Nolan's system.. Odd thing about Douglas, he is 33, so one would think 'that is a lot of miles"...however, he has only been a starter for 6 seasons, relatively speaking he has not played as often as one would think: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DougMa20.htm
Good to note that he is a veteran player, so he can help mentor Odrick and the younger guys. At this point I'm not sure we'll miss Merling at all this season.
The writing is on the wall for Merling with a 2 year deal....next year if Douglas beats out Merling for that job....Philly is getting cut...
