Eegads the NFL is stupid, so "because it has not been done before, it cannot be done now"..I can think of legit reasons not to go for Mallett, lack of athleticism, poor decision making under pressure, but "we ain't never heard ah no one like that working out" is possibly the worst reason imaginable.
They ran the WC for pete's sakes
Onto Henne:

Eh, thought this last yr, better team around Henne, better results for Henne, but still they do not sound sold, and better talent does not always mean better Qb performance, sometimes a Qb just..is bad.
Do not know if Henne is just a bad Qb, would like to see Sparano and Co make a committment to a Running Back having 300 carries as that takes a ton of pressure off of the Qb where a running back by cmte..generally doesn't, it does require finding a Rb who can handle that load and still produce, but if folks look back at Eddie George's career, most yrs he averaged less than 4.0 ypc

I'm surprised Henne didn't throw more picks than he did. -

Daniel Thomas a feature back would take tremendous pressure off of Henne, I'd think Thomas has no larger fan than Chad Henne..:lol:GMJohnson and ToddsPhins like this. -
Great analysis on the impact the new offense will have on Henne. It seems like we were outcoached for most of the second part of the year because of a transparent gameplan, not merely an ineffective QB. Henne has many of the tools needed to succeed so I dont mind giving him another chance to execute in a more savvy offense. Makes us missing on Mallett that much more forgivable IMO.
The only part that still bothers me is that we benched the kid last season when the offensive playcalling is now being cited as the primary culprit for our offenses struggles. If they knew the playcalling was poor, they shouldnt have benched Henne. This regime rocked Henne's confidence and made him the scapegoat in our fans' eyes. That is the single biggest failure of the Sparano regime to date.Puka-head, HULKFish, GMJohnson and 1 other person like this. -
Henne might be more excited about this draft than he was the 2008 one.
It's gotta be a nice boost to his confidence & spirit, too---- knowing that his skill set will have a chance to be better utilized.
The Bears game looked like something out of a movie..... like the Bad News Bears of football (except we're the Bears). lmao.GMJohnson likes this. -

You mean we finally get a playbook that was created after or at least around the time I was born? Woo hoo! Modern NFL offense here we come.

What's the best way to identify a problem when there are multiple variables involved? You remove one of the variables and see if the problem persists. Henne was removed, and the problem persisted.padre31 likes this. -
Are you trying to tell me we ran one ****ing drop the entire year? I didn't even notice that, ALONG WITH THE PA, along with bull**** play calling when ahead in the game, along with the #2 Mastrud and the ineffective Polite, and then we make to not use Marshall in the slot except for two or three games. How the heck did Miami even score last year?

Browns ran Hillis in 2010 so we are not talking Mouse Davis taking control here. -

As far as the QB position it's probably a "more" positive sign that they are not sold on Henne. I mean IMHO they should have more of a clue then "not sold". I'm always a little taken back how people seem to forget the many inadequacies of Henne last year. Poor throws, overthrown passes, miss reads, interceptions, even in several games, were the line actually gave him sufficient time.
Damn I'd love to think that Henne is going to turn out to be somewhat qualitative but I can't fool myself to that level. I saw a lack of ability along with the aspect of him not having the greatest tools around him.....be easier getting a new QB than acquiring the amount of players you'd need to "possibly make him sufficient. Maybe we got one or two, 3? who knows at this point
I think there will be a lot of QB available in free agency that are an upgrade from Henne, which IMO isn't saying much. Bad thing is although an upgrade, and would benefit us, we'd still be behind the 8-ball as far as that position. Only cure I see at this point is getting a top pick in next years draft.......(funny I first wrote getting some "luck" in next draft)
Also feel that in todays game the odds are highly against a team being competitive without a somewhat balance offense and that putting all your eggs in one basket (Ground gm.) will not cut it even if you had the old Bears defense.
You need a decent QB to have any kind of a shot and we don't and the organization I think or hope knows it and just won't admit it out right because it falls right in their laps. And the thing that surprises me most is as time goes on many of the fans are falling for the BS or at minimum rethinking the Henne possibilities.....
Hey but I wouldn't mind wasting this year with another attempt with him behind the center, it give us a much better shot at next years draft. But you can bet you bottom dollar Ireland will replace Henne as soon as possible....
Why ? his future -

Do you even understand the implications a freakin constant 5 drop has on an offense's and QB's success? :headwall:
And about the "missed passes"---- you do realize that Peyton Manning has like 3000 incompletions right?GMJohnson likes this. -

Derrick Locke is a FA too? Heck I'd open a competition for a couple of these guys. Tell them I've got a NFL job to offer you of perhaps 12 touches per game right here. Derrick Locke and Graig Cooper.

Sounds like a little bit of excuse-making for not finding a replacement quarterback, which admittedly isn't an easy thing to do.
With that said, I liked our draft. -

LOL what is that supposed to mean.. P. manning 3000 incomplete passes ya but not all to open recievers
KingMotion They haven't ..............but god bless them they are trying....lol -
You don't lead the league in throw aways when guys are wide open; however you do lead in throw aways when your're playing with 6 practice squad guys, no ground game, poor protection, horrendous predictable play-calling, and skill players who <as a collective> are timed with a sun dial.
You don't need to read between the lines. It means what it means--- that even Manning has missed 3000+ passes. You think Manning's receivers (2 potential HOF receivers and one of the best receiving TEs in the NFL) have been any "less open" than Henne's? -
Where we differ is that I've seen way to many Open receivers, overthrown passes, open Wr not seen, or just flat out missed at times when the OL was giving the guy Lots of time to make a decision and throw the ball. How many times has he forced the ball into double coverage and made a stupid throw for a interception ( looks like he maybe he should have had a few more throw aways).
I have to go with what I saw consistently last year and nothing I read here seems to have change my mind. I know and remember what I saw the majority of games last year to the point it was even Predictable.......
"You don't lead the league in throw aways when guys are wide open"
Well, not making the proper progressions and not ever seeing the guys who are open can be a big part of league leading throw aways...
Which he did alot of ...
He showed a lack of pocket presence much of the time that can be factored into that same equation........
I agree that much of the time Wr were not separating but when they did they were either missed or not seen way to often for me to consider Henne a fuctional QB. Can he change sure, I just don't see enough of an improvement to think he will -
1. No speed at WR (we draft Gates)
2. No run game (we draft Pouncey & Thomas)
3. No seam threat (we draft Clay)
4. Offense predictable, not catered to the QBs strengths (see Armando's article)
I'm hoping we'll go into overkill mode and add Deangelo in FA, but either way, dont it feel good to be right ???ToddsPhins likes this. -

Glad to see you're coming around.BlameItOnTheHenne and like this. -
Do you realize when you're playing with a dismantled Oline, no ground game, no flanker, no #1 TE, and 6 practice squad guys rotating in at WR & TE that there's bound to be some confusion?
If you dont want to rewatch our games, then how about watching the Colts' games mid-season instead when Peyton went 1-4 during a 5 game stretch with like 37 INTs. Tell me injuries to your starting skill players, no ground game, and horrible Oline play don't throw a monkey wrench in there even with good playcalling. I'd like to hear this excuse. -
Every yr Pandarilla, every stinkin' yr. -
I can understand not wanting to see the losses again, I'm just a wierdo and a football junkie. But I think you might have a different view if you went back and saw the games again.
