Interesting to hear what one of the greatest QB's ever would think about the situation. But he definitely "gets" it.
I don't really think you need to run a wildcat when your most dangerous player on the field is your QB. The wildcat is all about creating mismatches and putting the ball in your best players' hands.
Either way interesting read. Not too much analysis needed.

Marino would have had a problem with the Wildcat
You know I love Danny boy, but what is it with eveyone dissing the WCat. I don't get it is the heart of our offense, It has brought back the Fins from the trenches of the NFL and it has won us big games. Yet, someone who has meant so much to this organization has a problem with it. -
HAHA FIN! I BEAT YOU TO IT BY 1 MINUTE!
Got the thread in first.

I love Danny, but hes old school, and were not.
I dont care who the qb is, ronnie brown is to be respected in this running formation, by any of em..
Danny never had a running game, so he doesnt know any better...mullingan and dolfan7171 like this. -
He wasn't dissing the Wildcat. Later, in that same SS article, he says that thw Wildcat shouldn't be called a gimmick. He's just saying that he probably couldn't run it.opfinistic likes this. -
i dont understand the "upset rythm" thing.......whats the difference between handing off the football and watching the running back run, or standing on the sideline or split wide as a WR and watch the running back run the ball
when he says "disrupts rythm throwing the ball" its just a few plays where he doesnt throw anyways...whether handing off traditionally or letting some wildcat plays be ran.....dont understand the issue.mullingan and BrazForPhins like this. -
If he is handing off he is still the guy at center doing the snap count maintaining and controlling the rythm or pace of the drive.
He isn't dissing it at all he is simply saying it would be difficult for him to run. He goes on to say it isn't a gimmick that it is smart to get Ronnie and Ricky on the field at the same time.
To each their own guys the wildcat isn't for everyone and I think if Dan Marino says it would effect his rythm, not others but his then he would know better than any of us here. -

God to think what Jimmy Johnson did to set back this franchise so many years (including bringing Wannsteadt).Frumundah Finnatic and jdang307 like this. -
I love Marino and loved watching him play....... but it was pounding opponents with two good running backs and a balanced passing attack that won this franchise super bowls and delivered the perfect season. I like to think with the emergence of Henne we can again become a team that can beat you by running or passing. Of course great defense also helps...... we still have some work to do in that department.

all about the talent we have now
Marino is irrelevant -
It's also an excellent point in terms of the rhythm he mentions. I've thought the same could be true for Henne. In other words, and this has happened already...right after a big gain pass play, Henne comes out and they run the WC. Timing is important in everything. I just wonder sometimes about the timing of pulling Henne, because I think Danny is right...you gotta give your QB a chance to get into the rhythym of things.

What was JJ going to do about it? Cut him? :shifty: -

Are we actually turning on Dan because he expressed an honest opinion regarding his feelings on running the Wildcat? :pity: Nowhere did he diss it, and I can understand his comments on 'disrupting his rhythm' it makes sense. Imagine driving down the field, then sitting out a couple of plays, then hopping back in, your adrenaline will drop, your muscles will cool down and your Super Powers will regress slightly. Dan is never irrelevant, he created more Dolphin Fans than you can count.

It would never work with Marino.Sorta like Peyton Manning,no need for those formations when you have the best passers in the game.

Can you imagine Dan Marino being the Ronnie Brown Component of the Wildcat in 1983---that would have been fun to see.
Tim Tebow before Tebow. -
Of course it would be difficult for Marino. If the Wildcat offense is a 44 Magnum, then Marino was a Missle Launcher.

'difficult' ... rather impossible ... just as much as a running game was with him ...
he would have been winded just coming off and on the field !
Love the guy ... but no revelation here -
Dan Marino irrelevant? what a silly thing to say.
IMO, he and Shula ARE what this franchise was and is. They have earned the right to voice opinions on the team and organization. I think any of the retired Dolphins should be able to comment. Why shouldn't they? The old lame announcers say what they want, so why can't our older guys?
Phil simms never has a good word for us, for one, so why shouldn't our guys be able to have opinions?
Plus, I can't see Dan sitting on the side line, nor, do I see Shula allowing it.
Didn't Shula say that in his interview on aquavision?opfinistic likes this. -
