Welcome to Miami Reshad Jones, S

I like the pick a lot, I think he's a SS but he's a solid player to have in case Bell goes down.

    Per Jeff Darlington:

The Dolphins gave up picks No. 174 (a sixth) and No. 219 (the pick from the Redskins in JT trade) for No. 163.

i like it but some of the knocks on him were that he droppes balls that he should catch and that he can sometimes over pursue coverage

I have had the pleasure of watching him very closely for his time at UGA. Sometimes I could say displeasure. Trust me...he has all the raw talent and ability. The drawback...he plays very lazy at times and is not sound when it comes to fundamentals. He loves to go for the hit instead of the tackle.

Case in point...watch him whiff as Dwyer turns the corner.

    Scouting report

    Reshad Jones SS, Georgia

    Scouting Report:
Reshad Jones: Georgia, No. 9, SS, 6-2, 212

Jones is a tall, good-looking strong safety who displays a sudden first step out of his stance when asked to attack downhill and generates good power on contact as a tackler. He's a physical hitter with a strong upper body. He will go for the knockout punch too often instead of wrapping up but overall is a sound tackler when asked to close in pursuit. He's also a good last-line defender who breaks down well and can wrap up in space. Jones is an above-average straight-line athlete for his size who gets up to full speed quickly and does a good job taking proper angles toward the ball. But he's still a bit slow when asked to diagnose plays and lacks the second gear to make up for a false step. He showcases a natural initial bend in his stance but allows his pad level to get too high when asked to turn and run.

Jones plays too leggy when trying to get back out of his breaks and struggles to stay compact with his footwork and generate a burst when trying to quickly change directions. He possesses good ball skills downfield, and once he sees the play he does a nice job tackling the ball, high-pointing the throw and coming down with the play. But too often he loses sight of the ball when trying to transition out of his breaks and lacks ideal overall ball awareness when trying to get his head around. Jones possesses an intriguing frame and above-average straight-line speed once he gets going but isn't instinctive and fails to quickly redirect and change directions because of his elongated footwork.

    LIke I said...

"He will go for the knockout punch too often instead of wrapping up but overall is a sound tackler when asked to close in pursuit."

These plays by him were game changing plays that resulted in an L instead of a W. Can't have that on this level.

He fell because of his big hitter first mentality. That is the main reason. He has all the tools...and that is why most Dawg fans are sour on him. We all expected huge things from him and he broke our hearts more often than capturing them.

But when he is on...it is a thing of beauty.

btw...yes, that was the same Thomas at WR that Denver drafted in the first round. Denver is going to hate that guy. He is nothing more than another Ted Ginn. All speed...can't run a route to save his life.

some of his downfalls you guys are mentioning sound like they could be a result of poor coaching. easily corrected with nfl teaching.

YES...a huge part of it was coaching. Willie Martinez was his DB coach and was his DC. Willie was horrible. He didn't teach fundamentals and he didn't know X's and O's. We wanted Willie fired for the last 4 years. It finally happened after last season.

Your video mentioned something about redemption. Anything you can add to this? Perhaps he gave up a gamer winner the last time they face each other?

goes for the big hit and misses the tackle
    trouble catching

Well, it looks like his teammate blocks him from getting a better angle, while he did force Dwyer back to the inside where he should've been tackled, but the linebacker bounced off him.

There were other plays in that game where he also went for the hit, didn't wrap up, and the TD was scored. Can't find the video on that play or the other missed tackles. That game was the showcase for all that was wrong.
