NO player ....of course .... why would Miami do that? or rather why would Indy do that , include a productive player , this is a talent acquisition business and one team did that .
A good point was made on Twitters that Vontae was picked at the bottom of the 1st round. If the Colts don't do well, we maybe have only lost 10-15 spots from where he was originally drafted.
yup he sure has been dominate getting burnt just as much as sean smith. but hey we're dolphin fans so lets just riot over everything.
Ding ding ding!!! Look for Jimmy Wilson to move back or back up at both Safety and Cb.... I really like Sean Smith and Marshall is decent but after that the cupboard is bare than a mofo
The following is essentially the knee jerk reaction I see from you and other fans looking for reasons to fire Ireland: Angry Fan: "Ireland is terrible and needs to be fired for not drafting a 2nd round WR! It's our biggest hole and needs to be fixed." --- {Ireland responds by trading our underwhelming #3 corner for a likely high 2nd round pick that can be used on a talented WR} Angry Fan: "First Ireland doesn't draft our WR, but now he trades Vontae Davis! He's the worst GM on the planet." I'm scratching my head here. Seriously, make up your mind, do you want to address the weakest part of our team [WR] or not? For all the complaining people did about passing on a WR in order to address our RT issue, I'd think you'd be ecstatic that we now have a better chance to grab that talented receiver we've been clamoring for. Heck, this significantly frees up our 1st round pick, making it more feasible to take a WR in the top 10.
We should've traded for Reggie Wayne n a 4th or 5th. At least coulda helped Tannehill a bit...which should be priority one. Sent from my iPhone
In 1996, we lost our best 3 D players from 1995. Guess what happened, Jimmy johnson built a pretty damn good D without them and getting nothing back from losing those guys. Let's see how this plays out.
No matter how poop is sliced, it is still poop! Not a huge fan of Davis but this team just got seriously bad by trading away, at the very least, quality depth at Cb. With this being a pass happy league now it's about to get really bad. Once again this team will suck and by the looks of it the only thing to look forward to is watching to see if the Qb grows.
Didn't the Patriots trade Asaunte Samuel for a 7th round pick. He is way better than Vontae Davis. A 2nd and a 6th is great IMO.
No matter how anyone feels about this trade, the fact is that the Colts made this trade because they are trying to get better,NOW. Last year the Colts had the worst team in the NFL, but they have an owner who has showed he knows how to hire individuals who can build a winning football team. Last year the Colts were 2-14 and the Dolphins were 6-10. I would be willing to bet that the Colts will make the playoffs in the future, before the Dolphins do.
I wouldn't say that's an accurate statement. There are plenty of players that were drafted that same year and in the 1st round that aren't producing at a 1st round level and some players that were traded or outright cut for less than what pick was invested. And its not like we got a 4th for Vontae. We only lost half a round of the initial investment of the pick.
I'm not to sure on this trade. Yeah, Vontae's got some maturity/off-field issues. I get that they're getting pick(s) back for this. I, however, don't have faith in Jeff Ireland to actually use these picks to build a fruitful roster. I think that's a job for someone else.
So we should have a high one a high 2 a medium 2 a high 3 and a later 3 .... can we get the draft thread humming?
Well, we have no idea how the second will be used and if it's on a WR, how they will perform. We haven't exactly drafted a lot of great WRs in the past few years. How many of us thought after trading Marshall that we would then take a WR fairly high? Didn't happen. Also, you hope to fill holes without digging another.
The biggest problem might be that Ireland might be the one using them next season. Ireland loves 6th round picks but he should have gotten a 4th. The Colts were admitting to being desperate
I've tried to give Ireland the benefit of the doubt. Today marks a day where i'm going the other way by.... a large margin. If we turn that 2nd into a proven WR for this year I will be ok with it. I do NOT have faith that he can turn this 2nd rounder into a quality player if he waits to draft a player in 2013. Even though I HATE this trade, (unless we get a WR THIS YEAR!) I still feel we will be ok in the secondary with S Smith, Carrol, Marshall, and Jimmy Wilson. Trying my hardest to remain positive.
Dominant? Don't you instead mean inconsistent. Dominant gets you either a Pro Bowl nod or All Pro accolade. Vontae has neither. I'd rather have a more consistent corner with good talent than an inconsistent underachiever with elite talent. He's had 3 years to make proper use of that talent and live up to his 1st round status. As a fan, I'm more upset with Vontae for not committing himself 100% than I am at us for us trading him. If the coaches feel he's not mentally bought in, then we don't need him. Period. I'd rather take my chances with a high 2nd round receiver.
ArmandoSalguero Dolphins get a 2nd rounder for Vontae, potentially adding to these recent 2nd round draftees: Phil Merling, Pat White, Chad Henne, Koa Misi
all hail omar kelly IF YOU'LL TAKE ONE MINUTE TO UNDERSTAND HOW THESE THINGS WORK.... Each week the Miami Dolphins players get ranked 1-through-whatever (53, 75, 70). Each player is ranked by their practice and game performance in their unit, and overall. Vontae Davis was consistently third at CB, and from what I'm TOLD his grade wasn't much better than Nolan Carroll (who I told you has rebounded from his sophomore slump). Let us assume Vontae Davis was player No. 26. As I've told you consistently, every player on the Dolphins roster is on the trading block, and GM Jeff Ireland likes to make trades. So.....if a team (say the Colts) offers up a draft pick (2nd and 6th) that's worth more than the team values the player, a deal is done. And that's how Davis is now a Colt. This regime has a right to start over and get THEIR PLAYERS, players who buy into their system, and what they are selling. Disagree with the deal all you want, even if they got fair value for Davis (which they did). But how can you disagree with Joe Philbin filling the locker room with players who are loyal to him?
3 years and he is just 24 , the same age as many first year draft choices , he needs to mature and be more dedicated to be sure , but there is a lot of talent in a very young 3 year vet there , imo .... we don't get an asset for at least one more year , and maybe never .... it may pan out but what track record indicates that to you?
Ireland was supposed to value 'character' as well. WTF is he doing acquiring them in the first place?
When it comes to knowing how to pick defensive talent for a football team, Ireland is certainly no JJ. JJ was one of the best talent evaluators on the defensive side of the ball in the history of the NFL. JJ's problem in Miami was that he and Marino never got on the same page and he made several errors in the selection of offensive players during the draft and in free agency. Of course Ireland hasn't done any better on that side of the ball.
Just like Chad Johnson was the reason CJ was cut, Vontae Davis is the reason VD was traded. Nobody but Vontae put himself into this position. Jeff Ireland didn't force him to not give 100% to the team. Bottom line is, if he weren't an underachiever, he'd still be on this team.
Omar Kelly is an idiot who does not know a thing about football. He is stealing money. I do agree that Philbin wants players who will be loyal to him so I'd much rather praise him than Nomar Kelly....
So, the depth chart that is set by the coaches is meaningless, because some internet experts "know" that he is the best CB on the roster. The coaches were just burying him because... they were jealous? They don't want to win? Why did they do that again? I'm really losing the logic on this one. Can one of you that "know" that VD was one of the top two CBs on the team please explain why the depth chart doesn't matter?
