Why do people automatically think signing Gibson means Bess is gone? They have two completely different skill sets and will fill two completely different roles. Gibson compares more to Hartline in skill set
I hate this. I knew Irish hadnt changed, he cant stand the thought of drafting a WR early so he takes a #3 in Free agency to give us false depth.
I like this move if I am honest. He is likely a starter for us last year, this year he is depth. Wallace, Hartline, Bess, Gibson with Keller at tight end? And people are complaining? Compare it too last year.
I know its really ridiculous to try to be a Mel Kiper Jr. Let the people on TV do that, just enjoy being a fan, a husband and a father.
I must give you props for vagina-foot. That TE Stringer posted about a day or two ago is vagina-footed.
I'll continue to believe that this signing was to throw the league off of Austin being our target so no one jump ahead of us. I don't care that doesn't make sense. Lalalalalala I can't hear you lalalalalalal
Gibson had suitors. He wouldn't come to a team that didn't tell him he would be their third receiver, at the least.
drafting a wr was a pipe dream guys dolphins were going dl or ol the whole time with an outside chance at corner
Based on pecking order, here is rough comparison of the Philbin offense in Miami vs. Green Bay, where they went 4-5 deep at WR: Wallace = Jennings (#1 WR and big Play guys - though they have very different skills sets) Hartline = Jordy Nelson (#2 WR's with size and speed and nice intermediate games - not because theyre white! ) Bess = Cobb (Slot guys, short, fast, etc) Gibson = James Jones (Bigger, stronger WR with good hands, red zone threat) Aside from the Jennings/Wallace comparison (which is tenuous), I dont think this is that far away from what we might expect to see from the Dolphins receivers this year. There are roles for everyone. And this example doesnt even account for Donald Driver, who also has a role in that offense (albeit declining)
Are you saying Chris is a he/she? After all the adjectives CK's used on prospects (vagina feet!) - this is funny
Gibson looked great against us, I like the move myself. Depending on how much we spent on the his contract. There will be times, we go to a four WR set. The guy got good hands and can get the chains moving for us. He not a stud reciever, but he adds talent to the postion.
So.... Taking up a hobby (such as watching film on players and being fully researched around draft time) is a "waste of time"? 1.) Who is ANYONE to tell ANYONE what a "waste of time" someone's hobby is? I'm pretty certain that people would find what you do with your spare time "a waste of time". Criticizing what someone does with their spare time....hil-ar-ious. 2.) Telling someone they are "wasting their time" when they are doing a LOT of us (I can speak for myself here) a big service. I don't like watching coaches tape, it kind of bores me. I don't like watching film of some guy who I have never heard of who will get drafted in the 7th round. That said, I'm damn SURE happy someone around here does it. We have some of the best draft evaluators anywhere, right here, on this site and it's FREE. They do it out of love. I've learned more about football from this site and people like CK, Boom, KB and others than I ever would in the main stream media. Criticizing them for offering up a service, for free, that is very useful....awesome. The mains never fail to live up their old nickname sometimes.
I would also add 1. Being a football fan is a waste of time 2. Posting on a football message board is a waste of time.
I'd say 88% of the people slagging off Gibson haven't seen him play beyond looking back at his one hand stab against Miami on YouTube. Chris might be caning him but at least he's watched four or five games. I can respect that. What I respect more is this: Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, James Jones. Joe Philbin knows what he wants in a wide receiver and you know what, come hell or high water, I'm going to let him do his thing with regards this signing.
Fans and the media get too wrapped up in the #1 #2 #3 etc designation for WR. Gibson was brought in to fulfill a role in the offense, not an arbitrarily assigned number. He doesn't fill Bess' role therefore cutting Bess because he was signed makes no sense.
It's one of the beauties of having a head coach who knows what the hell he is doing and how to get to where he wants to be.
I'm only a little over 10K. I think I was at almost 20K at the other place. I'm almost at 10K on a Hockey message board as well. Yah....scary. Massive waste of time. I should be playing video games or something.
I was always a fan. I knew a lot but when I came here (and the other place) I learned about football. Schemes, techniques, systems, gaps, how players fit within those schemes etc. Stuff I had no clue about. And the draft. My god. I was always a draft junky and considered myself pretty knowledgable....then I would read things written by Boom, CK, KB, Con....and realize I'm a ****ing idiot and know nothing.
A couple things at play regarding Bess. I wonder if management will hold his role in the "leadership committee" against him. Second, I wonder if the team felt he could have played through his injury at the end of the season. And third, he's into the final year of his contract. Bottom line...Bess could be on the way out.
I seem to remember a couple of wide receivers who were more than just a wee bit light in the speed department who made some really exciting catches from time to time - Gadsden for one... and I don't think OJ was exactly a burner. As far as how good their hands are - we have no idea how they will look right now. People have been known, once in a while, to improve. Sure feels like this grouping will beat the cast of characters we have seen around here for the last few years at this point, though, doesn't it?
He had 4 catches for 28 yds and 3 TDs in the red zone. That's as many or more red zone receiving TDs than any returning player on our team.
Desmond Trufant if we go CB. He's better then Rhodes and I'd take him over Milliner too. He fits the Vontae profile aka high physical skill set but better work ethic and IQ. Jon Banks wouldn't surprise me either.
Don't be positive! There is only room to be negative. When the team looks like they are doing good things there is nothing to complain about so no one has anything to say. I honestly think some people here won't know what to do with themselves if this team ever gets good. Believe me, even when your team is good you have things to be critical of, ask a Bruins fan.
