Times are slow for all NFL teams...this just proves it...bottom line on QBs...conundrum, controversy, competition or whatever you call it, until we see these guys in action...we got it....

:lol: Good point. And that is funny. However, what we do have is three young QBs, any of whom have a legit chance to be quality starters in this league for a long time. What we need is ONE of them to step up. I have confidence that one will. I don't know which one.

So when you look at the totality of our QB situtaion, both short and long term, the picture is not quite as bleak. For example, the Bucs have 5 QBs on their roster. Garcia is 37. Griese is 33 (I t hink) and has been a backup most of his career. Simms is coming off a terrible injury and the jury is out as to whether he'll ever be the same, Luke McCown is probably not as good as Josh McCown (at least, has never played at the level that Josh has in this league) and Josh Johnson is a project, at best.

So the Bucs, like many teams compared to us, may have more certainty with the starter, but not so much when you get to the second and third guy.

It is funny. Not sure why anyone would start Josh though. You gotta see what you have in those two Rookie QBs.

Start Beck see if he does well and if doesn't put in the other rook.

The only thing I would argue is your statement about "3 young quarterbacks". We only have two; Beck and Henne.

McCown isn't even a has-been at this point. He's what you a call a "never was".

There is the very very slim chance that he could be good, like Charlie Anderson but one can argue that he is not really that good.

They guys on NFLN said he was pretty good that he played on lousy teams and didn't havae much of a chance. Couldn't that be the case?

That's always possible, but he played for three teams that were desperately looking for the answer at QB. All three passed on him, with one moving him to WR. I think he's a solid backup/journeyman, nothing more. Good insurance policy if Beck/Henne can't win the job.

I thought it was going to boil down to him and Beck this year because Henne is a rookie.

If you look at McCown's career, he has had some incredible games playing for some incredibly bad teams. Not saying he is the second coming of Peyton Manning, but he might be able to come in and play well. He has some skills. He doesn't just have to be a playmaker. The good news for the Fins is that I think we are setting our QBs up to succeed with a good offensivel line and running game.

I do agree to this point in his career he couldn't be called anything more than a journeyman, but he has shown a nice skillset vs NFL talent.

I still think long term this comes down to Beck or Henne. But you always need reliable backup QBs in this league. And if you have one that can come in and direct a full offense, without having to pare it down to simply "game management", then your opportunities for success are much better.

Dolphins Don't Have QB Controversy

There are some teams in the NFL that are still undecided on their starting quarterback as the 2008 NFL season approaches. The Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears are the two obvious candidates, of course.

The Miami Dolphins, meanwhile, don’t have a quarterback controversy. Rather, they have a quarterback conundrum.

A controversy means “a prolonged public dispute, debate or contention.” A conundrum means “anything that puzzles.” To have a controversy, the Dolphins actually need to have a quarterback who has proven that he deserves to start.

I'm assuming you meant Derek Anderson from the Browns.

The difference is that Anderson was just 24 and had only one year under his belt. McCown is 28 and has 7 years of experience under his belt.

That's a one-way ticket to palookaville in my book.

Of course theres no controversy, nor is there a conundrum, am i the only one that believes our front office is excited about what john beck brings to the table....I'll bet they are and are willing to give Beck every oppurtunity to win the job.

Yeah, but then again, the same could be said about Jay Fiedler.
