Merling aiming for consistency http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/other/sfl-dolphins-phillip-merling-s06sbjun04,0,6541283.story "
Yeah a pretty poor choice of words by the writer I'd say. With stuff like that in the paper, it's no wonder a lot of fans want to call a player a bust if he's not an All Pro after his rookie season.
he has time to develop look for Dotson & Wright to make a move on the DE position Starks will be back more concerned with the NT than DE
A late bloomer who came out early as a junior and is in only his second year? No biggie but still a puzzling reference to a young player who hasn't been around that long. His and Langford's numbers weren't all that far apart. If they both continue to progress we will be real fortunate.
don't want to take this where it doesn't belong but when you play a 3-4 & are as stacked with very talented, converted DE's playing LB. who's to say that on certain passing downs you don't see inserted them into the mix @ DE? am thinking especially along the lines of Cameron Wake & Terrius George. would allow for 3 or 4 pass rushing specialist on the field @ one time.
That is pretty much what is always done with 3+ WR sets. Merling, Langford, etc shift to DT, and Porter, and last year Anderson go to DE. Its almost an article of faith around here that Porter playing DE was such a bad move and proof Capers hairpiece ate his brain, but not only did Pasqaloni continue the practice but he got most of his sacks as a DE in 08
To add: Dolphins' Merling starts to show he's no pushover http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...lphins-phillip-merling-060309,0,7794317.story
