Biggest exclusive game yet for the PS3 comes out on June 12th. Already got a 9.9 from IGN.
Got your preorders in? Or know which version you're gonna get? I got my pre-order for the limited edition ready and the Gamestop manager will put mine in the safe and his in the safe so we can get it after graduation.

i'll prolly preorder mine tomorrow. I'll be at the midnight launch tho
-
I'm going to get the PS3 bundle with MGS4 included, and possibly GTA4 as well.
-
Looks like David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake will be making an appearance at my local Best Buy for the midnight launch. Now that really makes me depressed that I have to cram for a final on Thursday and miss the launch.

Cram while waiting in line. It's David Freakin' Hayter!
Ask him if he's pissed they aren't letting him write the script and play Snake in the MGS movie. -
For anyone in the SF/NY regions, they get Kojima himself.

i hope i can find the bundle
-
dont games normally come out tuesdays...like the movies.
-
But seriously, I do believe other games have come out on Thursdays before. -
I'm picking it up 2morrow.
-
I'd rather get Hayter than Kojima, honestly. I suspect the only English Kojima knows is "Deed joo rike it?" (Damn that Altair costume video; I can't get over Kojima saying that line now.) -

Had to go to two additional Gamestops besides the one on Pines and Hiatus before I found a place that had PS3 consoles in stock. What bull****.

put in an hour and a half. pretty cool so far. Looks great. 8 minute install sucks balls. the cinematics are amazing. Huge thumbs down to Metal Gear Online. It has the most annoying signup process on planet earth. The way it updates/signs up/connects really makes you appreciate Xbox Live.
-
I paid in full back when I pre-ordered it in like April and I forgot all about the midnight launch, smh.
Oh well. I'll pick it up tomorrow....... -
Don't have a problem with PSN, it's seamless once you set it up. The setup process could definitely be better, but this is Sony's first foray into online gaming; kind of unfair to directly compare Xbox Live with PSN at the moment. -
Well, I picked up my copy earlier but when I got down to Best Buy the lines were too long to see Hayter. Oh well. The LE is a nice little prize. But I'm putting a "Do not open until 6/14" sticky on it so I don't get distracted for MCAT's.
-
But the actual game is fun, its a little slow paced mostly because its not a run and gun shooter. -
how is it sony's first foray into online gaming? -
The correct frame of reference is comparing PSN to the original version of Xbox Live. And, no, that's not good for Sony in the sense that their offering isn't as advanced as Xbox Live, but give it time. -
I was just referring to the ps2 with the net adapter had online play. I suppose you are right though as far as actually setting up a PSN/XBL system.
-
Well... I wasn't trying to compare it to Xbox Live. I was just spoiled by auto updates and semmless connectivity. Since there's no centralized location for anything, the process was annoying imo.
1. Put in MGS4
2. Load Metal Gear Online
3. Re-direct to Konami's Quick Signup site
4. Create 2 different users (one for Konami online and another for MGS)
5. The site has the most ridiculaous restrictions for usernames I've ever seen. Thus rendering it impossible to memorize your login.
6. Update the game using HTTP or BitTorrent
7. Restart the whole F'n game (which makes you load MGS, then load Online)
It's not that it's the worst thing ever. It's just that this si a flagship game. I was #6 in line BTW, and numbers one and two both bought PS3s. So it's selling systems. My brothers were making fun of me because from the time I said, "I'm gona try online" to the time I actually played had to be at least 20 or so minutes of prepping and setting up. Doesn't sound like much, but when you just waited in line like a geek for a game at modnight, you kinda want to play.finsmx likes this. -

IGN gave MGS4 a 10/10 and say it should be an 11.

IGN is getting out of hand with their reviews now. This game is a lot of fun, but it's missing some sort of "spark" - I'm a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, but all of them have lacked the same. It's an 8.5/10 type of game to me so far. Definitely not on GTA IV's level. I haven't tried it out online yet, and I may never go that route because I'm easily frustrated with unnecessary crap, and it seems like the process of signing up is a load of unnecessary crap. Why be so complicated? Resistance, Call Of Duty, Rainbow Six, etc. are all easy.
Btw, the in game map is absolutely terrible.Bpk likes this. -
So I decided to give the online mode a try, and wow, this is a pathetic set up. You have to install an update that looks like it'll take at least 25-30 minutes, and I have the highest Comcast speed.

The enemies in this game are dumb as hell. you can crawl right next to them without them spotting you (on Normal difficulty at least). Just using active Camo and crawling seems to be able to get you out iof just about any situation. It kinda leaves little freedom to be "stealthy" if you just have to crawl and hold triangle.High Definition likes this. -
i went into blockbuster last night and snagged it up and have it till next friday. my initial thoughts last night were 'jesus can i play already?' then i got to play and take control of my character finally....'sweet' i though....so i ran over to the truck and crawled under it BOOM CUTSCENE starts.
May not be my type of game, honestly. I can respect the amount of work that went into the game or w/e but i prefer to play games and not watch them. -

Are you limited to just one online chracter per PSN account like in the Beta?
-

So I gave the online portion a try, and I'm glad I did. It's pretty fun and should hold over until Socom.
The single player isn't even a video game to me. It's a movie. It should be on IMDB. Damn good movie, though. Better than 85% of IMDB's "top 200" - it should be in there.Bpk likes this. -
did any body find it weird that you had to install between ACTs?
