Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes announced

I'm going to ask this question in this thread since it's about Metal Gear Solid. I've always wanted to play the franchise, but never did and now I have no idea where to start. Could one of you games recommend which games to play and what the correct order is? I've tried looking it up but I only end up extremely confused.

 

Phantom Pain would be a better title than Ground Zeroes.

Came away unimpressed. Hate when the entertainment value comes after the first 10-20 minutes of some pointlessly dull activity only serving to "set the mood/move the plot" (in this case, 8 minutes of crawling to a walk). This has always been my beef with RPG games, historically.

 

This looks like a segment that happens midway through the game, at least to me.
