Metal/Christian: Stryper-Murder by Pride

Fin Fan In Caliluxury_boxOPI know Brother "Alan" Pagan going to see this and go oboy.:lol: I was at Best Buy doing some anniversary shopping, and I was going by the S section, and I had to just look at Stryper and low and behold they have a new CD out called Murder by Pride, marking there 25Th anniversary. The band sounds very good and tight still. The guitar riffs are kickin', Robert on the skins are pounding and Michael voice is still very sharp as it has been. The bass department is interesting. They will be going with two bassists on there upcoming tour. The first set will have Tracy Ferrie on bass and will feature the new CD. The second set with feature all the classics with original member Tim Gaines.
The CD is pretty good so far. They do there version on track three of Peace of Mind and it features Tom Scholz of the band Boston. It is in the Stryper way, but it sounds very good. From what I have been able to listen to today I am very impressed.:up:

CosmicNew MemberSaw them last month at House of Blues. Tim Gaines played with them that night, and they played 4 songs off the new album as well. They completely kicked ass, but I have to say, I've been to a LOT of metal shows over the years, and this was by far the most polite.

Phinvader BillNew MemberJust bought it. Will post a review later. I've seen them 4 times, and met them twice. In 1990? (Against the Law tour) Oz Fox actually brought a guitar out and showed me a trick in the guitar set up that I still use to this day. Last time I saw them was in Charlotte in 2005.

Phinvader BillNew MemberListening to it now. I liked the first 2 songs, but didnt care for their Piece of Mind remake. And, Alive is ok, but not by far their best ballad. Won't give anymore song reviews until I finish the album.
One thing I will say is that the sound seems kind of dry as a whole. No reverb on the vocal harmonies, and the guitar sounds like it was plugged directly in, rather than mic'd up. But that's common in alot of recordings these days using digital recording. Nothing beats the sound of analog recording. Any future recording I do will be digital, but I will mic the guitar, and I will add the effects that make it sound more rich, and more like analog.

I like it, but its far from their best. Its great music and vocals like we've come to expect from them, but only one song really jumped out and hooked me (which was 'I Believe' which reminds me of one of my songs. lol)
I liked Reborn much better than this one.
I think my order of albums goes like this:
1, Soldiers Under Command
2, To Hell With The Devil
3, Against the Law
4, Reborn
5, Yellow and Black Attack
6, Murder by Pride
7, In God We Trust
I'll still go see them in concert if they come this way though. Still, the lowest grade I give a Stryper album is a C, which is In God We Trust. This one is a C+.
I will say that I like their remake of My Love I'll Always Show MUCH better than the original. The original and 'All Of Me' are the only 2 Stryper songs that I hate.

Ok, I'll give it another listen. I didn't care for Reborn at first either, but after a few times of listening to it, it grew on me big time.
