I know it will be tough but I never thought we'd be double digit point spread underdogs Pitt -10 Houston -3 Seattle -7.5 Green Bay -4
Bobby McCain said the fact that the Dolphins are double-digit 'dogs against a team they've already beaten handily is a sign of disrespect.
Its because they got stomped on by the Ravens and Patriots, the two best teams they've played since the win streak began - They beat the Steelers, but in Miami and with Ben leaving the game. If they want respect in big games they have to earn it. It shouldn't diminish the fact that they won the games they should have. Hopefully it motivates them. Ajayi needs one last big performance this season. Whole team has to make sure they don't turn the ball over. That INT and the Williams fumble were killers against NE.
I can understand why the spread is so large. We have a backup QB in there, most people probably don't think Ajayi will run for 200+ yards again on them, and last time Pittsgurgh was playing well until Roethlisberger got hurt. Pitt was up 8-6 when he got hurt and couldn't score at all after that until garbage time (drive started with 4 minutes left in the game). Having said that.. Pittsburgh doesn't have a great WC record. They are 5-5 all-time in WC games, 2-3 in WC games at home, and 1-3 in their last 4 WC games. Dolphins aren't much better (6-5 all-time, 1-2 in away WC games, and 0-2 most recently but those were both to Baltimore so it almost doesn't count!) but the point is history doesn't suggest we should be afraid of Pitt at home in WC games. oh.. interesting stat: last year all 4 WC games were won by the away team
Point spreads aren't set to disrespect any team. They are set based on what the experts believe a point spread needs to be to get bettors to put down money on both teams. Based on how inept the defense has been in the last month and with Moore playing instead of Tannehill, a ten point spread makes absolute sense to me. If the Dolphins feel disrespected because of the line, they need to show it on the field and not with quotes in the media.
It's just a gambling spread to bring bets back to Miami. Pitt is probably getting heavy bets in Vegas.
um, wouldn't that mean miami wins? thus they play again? thus he needs another big performance against the patriots?
Only chance Miami has is to have Suh or Wake destroy Ben! Make him leave the game. Looking at the Steelers schedule, they got hot in the second half of the season. Their weakness is the 2nd string QB. If Ben goes down, we will win.
This is ridiculous. The Steelers aren't unstoppable. We are perfectly capable of beating them with Ben under center. The negativity is absurd. We are in the playoffs because we deserve to be and we are as dangerous as any team out there. We've had a "win or go home" mentality for half the season.
Offensive lines don't travel well, so Pittsburgh being at home is their biggest advantage. Will take a big game from Miami's DL. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Opened at 7.5 at Midnight on one site. Opened at 10 around 7am on the rest. Seeing 9.5-10.5 right now.
I always reference the live books (William Hill/Mirage) those internet sites put lines out very fast. They can do that because they can afford to put a bad line out as they are so profitable it's sickening.
i had the steelers -8 so the extra two points doesnt surprise me. steelers, raiders, cowboys all get more money bet on them by their fans then other teams, the line that surprised me was seattle -7.5. i had them giving 3 as poorly as they have been playing. the other two i nailed but am really wondering about the seattle/detroit game now
Seriously... if my memory is right the last time we beat the Ravens, Cleo Lemon hit Camarillo for a game winning touchdown for our only win of the 2007 season..
I wonder how close the spread would be if we were facing Houston or Oakland instead. Oh well, it is what it is. We'll see what they bring on Sunday afternoon. Gase has already proven more than most of the coaches that we've had the past decade plus. Now, he has a chance to get the Dolphins second road playoff win since 1973. Even Shula himself couldn't keep games close on the road in January after that point.
The good thing with this line is its overinflated since everyone is betting the steelers. they are keeping it at 10 or higher to prevent the "tease" bettors form getting a line of 3. I dont know how good a bet it is but if you go for value, the Dolphins are definitely the play
it will go up as money is bet on pitt, people will have to put a strong amount on Miami to lower it which I don't see happening, I don't see it lowering more than .5 by game time, its really not an appetizing bet, seems like a sucker line to me. I had it about 7.5 but 10 seems just crazy. the best line is raiders +3 even with mcgloin or cook I think they can beat Houston. the one that really surprises me is seattle -7 I think that will be a fg game, I like every dog in the bunch even the giants @ gb I see that being a fg game being cold. Miami is the only one I see going in favor of the fav IMO even at 10 I hate to say it. Even though the smart play would be Miami +10 I hate to take any team giving double digits in the playoffs.
They don't really care that much about putting bad opening lines out - bets into opening lines are heavily limited. I doubt anyone could get more than $25k wagered before Saturday. Books are profitable because they create rules that favor them. They aren't going to let people bet large amounts on Miami +10, and they aren't going to let people bet large amounts on Pit -9. They use limits to create middles for themselves. This is why betting is so difficult - the books rig the rules in their favor. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
To an extent. I for one know for a fact I could walk into the Mirage yesterday and lay 25k on either. Thats the live books though, good luck getting an internet site to take that bet unless they have u pegged as a huge fish. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Live books sure, but eventually they will just stop accepting your bets or inflict bodily harm on you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
ESPN....the funny thing is it adds up to 101% instead of 100. And there's not even a logo...they must have forgotten the Dolphins were even playing! (Though they apparently did the same to the Lions).
It's supposed to be 10 degrees in Sunday I. Pittsburg. I might give them a +14 these cold games in Heinz field are tough to win!
