Instead of criticizing my post why don't you read it.....it doesn't talk about "moments" it states fact. The Jets have been to at least one (and its actually 2) AFC Championships within the last 18 years. The Dolphins exactly ZERO. All of those other teams have been to at least 1 championship game as well. If you wish to talk about the last 18 years, I'd rather take those two chances at the whole prize than our miserable failures of the last 16 years. We won the division only 3 times I believe and won exactly 2 playoff games. I think even the Jets may have done better. I don't have time to go searching on the internet for the exact numbers but both franchises have failed their fans horribly in the last 20 years, and are just about on par with each other. By the way I am way older (and I'd like to think smarter) than you. The post I am responding to confirms in my mind I believe I am.

Does anyone think the Cardinals are dumb enough to do a trade for Marshall and Fitzgerald??? Wishful thinking. That would help to solve one problem. I don't think anything needs to take 5 years. Plenty of teams have turned things around in 1-3 years. The Dolphins are not horrible, they need some things but it can get done in a short time, if it's done correctly. If they get a top 10 RB with Ricky Williams to back him up, fix up the O-Line that has some bright spots that are banged up. We need another Tight End, maybe we can get one through FA. QB is a big question mark. Is Henne going to be great or not? Look at the Patriots, Brady is able to mask so much on that offense. They can plug in any WR or TE and make him great. Everyone knows we need a new OC, as for Sparano I think he gets a chance in 2011. The defense has improved dramatically since 2009...I'm not all that worried about the defense.
Spoiled ? We're spoiled ? We've had exactly 2 winning seasons (2005 & 2008) in the last 6 and soon to be 7. No we've been more than patient, and we've also been selling a lot more tickets than a lot of teams that have only had 2 winning seasons in the last 6. Why are we spoiled, because we are finally getting fed up by mediocrity and that we see teams turning their franchises around faster than ours ? In 2007 we picked with the 1st pick of the draft, but Atlanta had that 3rd pick. They had a lot of the same problems, including needing a franchise QB. They seem to have solved their problems a lot faster, and this week happen to have the # 1 power ranking in the NFL. You think I just might be a little frustrated and jealous ? They had a winning team and franchise QB in Vick, and playoff wins earlier this decade. We have been mired in drifting mediocrity for years and years and I am fed up with all these GD snake oil salesmen like Parcells that sell us a load of baloney, and then bolt away like a little girl before the job is finished. Yeah I am P.O'd. I love my Dolphins and I wouldn't be here, on this board unless I did. DO NOT QUESTION MY LOYALTY ! But I am pissed off and very angry. I am tired of wasting my money on Dolphins gear and Sunday ticket, etc, for a franchise that just can't seem to get its act together. I cannot stand people that sit in judgment of other fans just because they have the cajones to pipe up and speak out about how the team frustrates the hell out of them.
we'll get it together next year as we gain playing time for some very talented rookies this year. Ross will have Ireland do his dirty work & clean house. got to start another reconstruction immediately.
The Dolphins basically created two NFC South Super Bowl contenders by sending Drew Brees to the Saints and signing Parcells when Atlanta wanted him. Both those once horrible franchises have moved past the Dolphins, one won a Super Bowl and could very well repeat, and the Falcons are very much on track for the top seed in the NFC. I'm so glad we've done more for other teams than our own. Like I said though, we're not horrible and it can be fixed.
I think I see this coming as well. I just don't know who it will be. But we need someone I think that believes that offense is good and not an inherent evil with QB's that just are there to screw up the game. Sparano has fallen into the Parcells trap of believing that a good defense is all you need, and that you just need to play Wannyball and 1,2,3 and then punt the ball.
C'mon man. Rant all you want, that's your right as a fan. Doesn't mean you're making any sense though. You can't blame Ireland and Parcells for what Shula, Jimmy, Wanstedt and Cameron did. We went from a roster of mostly junk, to having one of the better young foundations of talent in the league. We're not ready to dance with the big boys just yet, especially with our 3rd string DJ, but this stuff about blowing up the team and starting over is ridiculous. Grown men don't cry.
I don't "love" the Dolphins, I love football, the Fins are my favorite team. I've read some of your previous posts, you think we're the best team ever when we win and you want to fire the ball boys and groundskeepers when we lose. We're 5-5, which is probably better than we should be given the teams we've played and our injury situation. But if you want to throw perspective out the window, go for it. Oh, and I'll take a pornstar over a virgin any day .
What is our great "young foundation"? I'm serious. Who are the great young players on this team? I count 1. Jake Long. Vontae Davis and Cameron Wake are very good, but maybe not great. I'll give you those two to be fair. Langford and starks are nice 3-4 ends. Nothing spectacular but, ok. Dansby and Marshall are relatively young, so I'll be generous and include them even though we signed them as finished products. That's 7 guys on a 53 man roster. That's not a foundation.
Where is this foundation of great talent ? Who is showing themselves to be grade A talent ? Just because they are Dolphins ? We have some good players, but its obvious that most of the team is what it is, mediocre. We are 5-5 for a reason. We have beaten exactly 1 quality team (GB) and one good team (Tenn). Ireland has done a less than stellar job with his FA signings. His trade for Marshall may be blowing up in his face. So why a lot of folks even want to give him a pass I don't understand. Have they forgotten about the horrible Wilford signing ? He has had some wins, but most of his moves have been nothing more than mediocre. The Odrick pick, instead of Bryant seems worse and worse each time Bryant takes the ball in for the TD. Can you imagine him on one side and Marshall on the other ? As for Odrick, well we got along without him this year, so the team on D would have been the same as it has been, but oh man would our offense have been better.
well you cant expect great players to be bench warmers so you should leave it to the starting 24, maybe 25 if you include KR/PR and if you do that I would add Carpenter and Soliai and Bess so 10 out of 24 is 42% and then you have alot of potentially good players Henne, Odrick, Misi, Clemons, Jones, Smith, Jerry so you may get past 50% if some of them develop. Add another offseason and you could be over 60% next year
This is what we got: Great players: Jake Long Brandon Marshall Dan Carpenter Very Good: Vontae Davis Vern Carey Karlos Dansby Good: Randy Starks Kendall Langford Yerimiah Bell Ronnie Brown Lousaka Polite Ricky Williams Davone Bess Contributors: Paul Solai Tony McDaniel Channing Crowder Koa Misi Chris Clemons Reshad Jones Brian Hartline Brandon Fields Capable backups: Anthony Fasano Ike Alama Francis Sean Smith Al Harris We don't know: Chad Henne The rest is trash.
I don't even know that ronnie qualifies as "good" anymore Sec. After 3 years, that ain't a great list.
we already know about henne & pennington & thigpen. we will be looking for our franchise QB in the draft got to man up to reality: the reconstruction has collapsed, the architect slipped out of town like a thief in the night we need another two seasons to rebuild under different leadership what to look forward to: 1) seasoning our young talent 2) creating a defense that will carry us through the many adjustments that will be made in 2011
Meanwhile, Atlanta, who picked 3rd in just 2007, ends up in a SB and with a franchise QB that will be there for the next 10 years as their starter.
Totally disagree with keeping Ireland. He is the one who pushed to pick Pat White in the 2nd rd of the draft. Picking a 190 pound, 6'0" QB that can't throw the ball(I don't care what is completion % was in college. The spread they ran at WVU masked his shortcomings and Ireland should have known this) that high in the draft was the single most idiotic move I have ever seen in the draft. Sure, if you want to take a shot at him in the 5th or 6th I have no problem with that, but in the 2nd was ridiculous.
What makes this more of a nightmare, is that there will probably be NO 2011 season. I am expecting a lockout by the owners.
It depends on the fan. Anyone that got to watch them in the 80's or even the 90's (or for the some that supported them since the beginning) got to enjoy a competitive team year in and year out...and also got to watch one of the best QBs of all time every Sunday.
My friend I have been watching since 1966. I have been there with the good and the bad. The last 15 have been horrible. It is kind of all evened out in my mind, and now I am ready to starting winning again.
Do you have anything to support this statement? And obviously, that pick was what set the franchise back. If only we had drafted Clint Sintim, we would have a guy too slow footed to play SOLB, or any LB position in the NFL
It was either Ireland or Sparano that pushed for him, because Parcells said it was not his pick, that he wanted someone else, and that pick was made against his advice.
The part that struck me about your post was the line "We are the Cubs of the NFL". What are the Cubs known for in baseball? They are known for having the longest championship drought in baseball (102 years). To use them as an analogy, it implies that the Dolphins have experienced a similar drought. But they haven't. The Jets have gone longer. So has Arizona. Plenty of teams have experienced less success than the Dolphins. This brings me to my next point. How do you measure success for an NFL franchise? Here is how I do it (albeit I am not as smart as you). 1. Number of championships 2. Number of conference titles 3. Number of division titles 4. Number of playoff wins 5. Number of playoff appearances As I stated, I am 42. In my lifetime as a vested fan of the Jets, the Miami Dolphins hold the edge in all those categories. If you want to say that the Jets 1998 season AFC championship loss in Denver and last year's loss in Indy makes them a more successful franchise, then have at it. But I totally disagree. For the majority of my life, we had one of the worst (albeit kind and nice) owners in the league (Leon Hess). We have had coaches like Joe Walton, Bruce Coslet, Rich Kotite, and Herm Edwards. We have had more draft busts than I care to mention (Blair Thomas anyone? Johnny "Lam" Jones). Meanwhile Miami drafted a hall of fame QB, had a hall of fame coach, and fielded winning teams for the majority of my lifetime. So for one more time, the Dolphins are NOT the Cubs of the NFL and they have been a better franchise over the past 40 years than the NY Jets. That doesn't mean that as of right now I don't think we are the better franchise and I won't get into that debate as it will surely do nothing but piss people off. Lastly, no need to insult me the "I am smarter than you" comment. I didn't insult you or your team.
While I agree with the majority of your list. To state that Parcells left because of the mistakes HIS organization made is simply letting him off the hook. It was Parcells who selected Sparano and Ireland to coach and select players for this team. Parcells was the problem from the beginning. He never was anything more than a head coach in the NFL. This position requiring him to run the entire football operation was more than he was capable of doing. He failed and his reputation has been tainted by this failure. I have seen nothing from Ireland that leads me to believe that he is capable of selecting the type of players needed to get the Dolphins to the level needed to be a consistent playoff team. Along with the firing of Sparano. Ireland also needs to be shown the door.
We can all agree that both fan bases(and probably the Bills too) envy the Patriots (and former AFCEast team Colts) success whether they want to admit it or not. No need to fight over which franchise has been worst! They've been fairly even for the past 10-15 years. Maybe we should start letting our teams borrow players when we play the Patriots. There must be a loophole somewhere.
