Well if that was on Parcells then so be it. It was still an awful signing. The whole Parcells experiment to me has been pretty disappointing, and I am ready to move on to a new coach. Hopefully it will be a more offensive minded man.

Debating with Johnson is a waste of time, he refuses to live in the real world.

    the real world:
    1) need to fire Sparano, Henning & respectfully part company with BillParcells completely
    2) need to find a franchise QB in the next draft, the best available @ whatever cost
    3) need to rebuild the interior offense line, starting with a pro-bowl caliber center
    4) keep Nolan & Ireland, promote Pennington into the coaching ranks
    5) need to find another starting RB & TE
    6) need to find a kick return specialist
    7) need to revisit Marshall's contract or have an inspirational talk with the guy.
    8) what should have been done in three years will probably take five. the reconstruction has collapsed in the incompetent hands of Tony Sparano

So I was right. You have no clue about who Gaine is, our college/pro scouting departments, or the mechanisms by which we decide on acquiring players. I can spot you guys a mile away lol.

Its really amazing how people are willing to yell about firing this one and how much that one sucks without doing bare minimum research.

It was. Your blame of Ireland is misplaced, however. In 2008, Parcells exercised a lot of direct control over the roster, with Brian Gaine giving him pro scouting reports. Thus why I asked if you have ever heard of Brian Gaine: he’s the director of pro scouting and has a hand in every free agent we’ve signed. You want to apply blame for blown free agent signings in the early Parcells era? Blame Parcells for pulling the trigger based on Gaine’s information, not Ireland. In 2008, Ireland ran the draft and was primarily concerned with college scouting.

Parcells has never head coached this team.

Tony Sparano coached tight ends in Jacksonville, the offensive line in Dallas, and coordinated Dallas’ run game in 2007. He succeeded a man who is arguably the best offensive coordinator in the NFL. Worry less about which side of the football a potential head coach comes from and whether or not they’re able to organize, manage, and lead.

Sparano’s biggest failing isn’t a lack of an offensive mentality, it’s excessive loyalty to his staff. He’ll ruthlessly slice through a roster full of “his” guys, but firing a coach requires enough evidence to fill the Grand Canyon. Even firing Mike Maser after 2008 took a spectacular playoff failure.

Oh wow, you really are someone special aren't you. Holy Cow dude, I am a fan and I have an opinion and its just as valid as yours. Unless you are gainfully employed by the Dolphins in some capacity you are no better than I am.

As for how we spot players, etc. It ain't working to well because the Parcells/Ireland/Sparano regime has posted a 12-14 record the last two years. That is mediocre at best, and I am sure not acceptable to Mr. Ross.

Can you believe this dude ? WTF !

The results are 12-14 for the last two years. That is all I need to know. Its not good enough, and if I had a record of less than 50% at my job I would be fired too.

I never said Parcells was the coach. I still want to move on to another coach. We need someone with more of an offensive mind. We need an offense like you have in San Diego or Indianapolis. What we have just won't cut it in today's NFL. Its too pedestrian of an offense.

You’re describing a need for a new offensive coordinator, not a new head coach. The head coach does not directly manage and implement the offense or the defense. That’s up to the coordinators.

You still have a big problem in personnel though. A big armed QB, three possession receivers, no speed RBs, and a blocking TE with a very good pass blocking line when healthy. What does that give you? What can you do with this offensive roster? Even if the team changes coordinators you still have a team with no identity because they're players cannot execute the offense you've picked out for them. You have a PA heavy system with no PA capable QB with Pennington gone.

What do you do if you're Ireland and you want a coach that can make something of this? This offense has Jake Long and Brandon Marshall/Bess. That's about it really as far as identity. Beyond that we have no clue.

   .... I mean

I guess it doesn't matter who is ACTUALLY available in the draft b/c we apparently now have the option to genetically clone a Drew Brees-Peyton Manning cross and put him in the accelerated test tube so that he's ready to go by draft day. Or I guess we're just trading Henne, our 1st, and 2011 first to Carolina so we can grab Andrew Luck. Surrrrre, I'll buy that. :chuckle:

You make it seem SOOO easy to find a franchise QB. WOW, to think that we've purposefully been ignoring one for the past 10 years when all we really had to do was snap our fingers and shout ALAKAZAM!! :001_rolleyes:

Exactly. And Sparano also comes from an offensive background, so that particular desire has been met twice already.

The real point is that people put too much emphasis on whether a head coach is “offensive” or “defensive”. That sort of background really doesn’t matter.

Let's look at these "franchise QBs" who grown on trees shall we:

I'll use the 2007 draft as an example.

-(5) QBs taken in the FIRST 43 PICKS: 4 of 5 BUSTED!!![/U] (including the #1 overall pick AND the guy whom many Dolphin fans WANTED-- Brady Quinn). Kevin Kolb is the lone non-bust, and it's arguable that Henne would perform at least as well in Philly's offense, if not better.
-(1) QB in the 3rd: Cut by drafting team.
-(1) QB in the 4th: became a WR.
-(2) QBs in the 5th: BUST/ Cut by drafting team.
-(1) QB in the 6th: BUST
    -(1) QB in the 7th: 3rd stringer
****There's only 1 QB (out of 11) from this draft who has any franchise potential (Kolb), and that's still not undeniably certain..... and only 1 QB has earned his current team's starting job (Troy Smith).

    How about the 2002 draft:
    (3) QBs in 1st round: ALL BUSTS (including #1 & #3 overall picks: Carr, Harrington)
    (1) in 3rd round: BUST
    (2) in 4th round: BUST/average at best starting QB (Garrard)
    (5) in 5th round: ALL BUSTS
    (2) in 6th round: BUSTS
    (2) in 7th round: BUSTS
**** ZERO franchise QBs (out of 15) from this draft******

****Other "franchise hopeful" 1st and 2nd round QBs who ended up either busting or became nothing more than an average player (IE: non-franchise QB):
    1st ROUND
    Alex Smith- #1 overall pick
    Tim Couch #1 overall pick
    Ryan Leaf- #2 overall pick
    Akili Smith- #3 overall pick
    Matt Leinhart- #10 overall pick
    Cade McNown- #12 overall pick
    Jason Campbell
    JP Losman
    Jim Druckenmiller
    2nd ROUND
    Quincy Carter
    Marques Tuiasosopo
    Charlie Batch
    Shaun King
    Kellen Clemons
    Tarvaris Jackson

THIS TEAM has much bigger holes to fill than prematurely looking to replace Henne. You don't even think about replacing Chad until the entire team is playing NON-sloppy football, we have an OC who ACTUALLY designs an offense to suit Henne's needs, and the offense has more weapons to work with. History tells us that using a 1st round pick on a QB may likely result in nothing more than Henne's backup. This is MUCH TOO SOON to risk a valuable 1st round pick in this manner, and as such-- it's poor franchise management to try and replace a still-developing Henne unless you're absolutely certain you'll end up with something better.

**23rd--- I have a question for you: When your car quits running, is it your initial instinct to replace the engine before checking to see if it's out of gas or only needs some coolant?.... b/c what you're talking about doing with Henne makes about as much sense as replacing your engine when in fact the problem might be something entirely different or less extreme.

Nice try Jake. Bill Parcells is gainfully employed by the Fins & you have no respect for his opinion, so I doubt that you'd change your tune even if I was working for the team. I admire your passion, I respect your opinion. But when you're confronted with logic and/or facts you retreat into hyperbole and insults, which is typical for a guy who doesn't know what he's talking about. Just sayin.

The last thing we need is more turmoil in the staff, from coaches on up. I don't think Sparano should be fired, yet. I do think we need to let Henning go. Besides the injury bug hitting this team hard for the 2nd year in a row, something is clearly amiss. Ireland has done a good job bringing players in here, yes there's been some misses but every team has misses. How quickly you realize that you missed and move along is what makes the difference and this FO moves along quickly. The one thing I wish is, they would settle on some guys and stay there. I understand the "churning the bottom of the roster" thing, but I feel they do a little too much sometimes and it has hurt our special teams and offensive line depth.

Stay the course a little longer, a little cohesion is a good thing and the constant changing of coaches and staff is one of the reasons this team has been abysmal for the last 10 years. I for one, would like to break the constant "churning of coaches and FO personnell" we have been in since Shula was retired.

the last thing we need right now is not to confront the truth about this club. got to recognize what's broken before you can fix it. it is what it is. validate & fix. denial predicated in false hopes & wishful thinking is the enemy here
