After several days of discussions between the Miami Dolphins and Dennis Hickey, both sides have decided to part ways.
Dennis Hickey is no longer the team's general manager. And although those discussions also included the possibility of a reassignment, he is no longer with the team.

Good bye choice number ten million.. The only candidate that didnt reject Ross.

He wasn't a great GM, but in hindsight I'm glad that we had two years of Dennis Hickey and not two years of Ray Farmer.

We no longer have a Hickey, but we still suck.

This doesn't feel as good as Philbin and the coordinators being fired. Hope it doesn't turn out to be a mistake.

Dawn Aponte is next on the firing line.

I have gotten to the point that I don't care about the Dolphins much anymore. I stopped even recording the games by November or so. Firing Hickey does nothing to fix this franchise. I think his first draft, without Tannenbaum was pretty decent. The second year with Tannenbaum in charge there were more questionable decisions. I think Hickey is getting a bum deal here. Tannenbaum is already proven to have wrecked one franchise.
Stephen Ross is a brilliant business man by all accounts. He however is not running the Dolphins. And the people he has picked to do the job are terrible and he holds onto them long after their performance should have gotten them fired. Ireland should have went sooner than he did and Philbin with him. Tannenbaum should never have been hired. This team will never improve until we have an owner who can actually run the team or at least be involved and who can have the right people at all levels.
I have been a loyal fan for about 15 years but I don't have the energy anymore. And looking at the way Ross is running this team I don't think it's worth investing my energy and emotions in to the Phins anymore. To all you true Dolphins fans who are still sticking it out I wish you and the team the best of luck.mlb1399 likes this. -

I remember when some of you were so excited when he was hired and I could never understand that...a failed stint as the GM in Tampa Bay and some of you were over the moon for him.
I saw Greek tragedy right from jump street -
I never liked the hire and he was NEVER the GM in Tampa. He worked for the Bucs for 20 years in their personnel department but they never thought enough of him to actually ever promote him to the GM position.
As bad as I thought the hiring of Hickey was at the time. He actually drafted some fairly decent players in the first two rounds of the past two drafts. Only time will tell how these players develop over the next few years.
I think the hiring of Tannebaum as the head of football operations was a far bigger mistake than hiring Hickey as the GM. It will not surprise me in the least if Tannebaum isn't fire within the next two years. -

Of course since they will probably finish this season 5-11 and they are over the cap going into next season. It makes you wonder if either Tannebaum or Aponte really know what they are doing in regards to the salary structure of this team. -

The Browns job might be the one job that has less interest for heading coaching candidates than the Dolphins job.
They have a great great fanbase in Cleveland, but their owner seems to be as clueless as Ross at this time. The only difference is that Ross had been clueless far longer as an NFL owner than Haslam has been in Cleveland.
It will be interesting to see who gets a clue first. -

Odd that Hickey is gone now with one game left, it seems to me that Hickey wanted out now, I think he feels slighted because he wasn't able to do the job he was hired for, Tannenbaum was the GM of this team, him and Ross are the main orchestrators of the squad we saw this year imo.

We have one of the worst books in the NFL, thats why people hate Aponte.

Honestly if Aponte wasn't a woman, the majority of us wouldnt care and/or have no idea who ran our books. She does a good job, neither spectacular or poor. Basically on the same level as most of the NFL, better than some, worse than others.
