uhg. that ricky play was so stupid. bad call, bad execution, bad everything. Shame on henning for calling it, shame on ricky for not just tucking and running.

shame on Henning for that explanation
best way to get into the end zone was a halfback pass
you kiddin' me

Did I like the call? No, but I don't blame him for making it.Xeticus, SeanP, NJFINSFAN1 and 7 others like this. -
We like him, he's making plays, he seems to show up very much like *** showed up in our training camp the first year we were here, and why he's still here,
I like this part of the quote.Sounds like what we said about Henning last year except the old man "might" need to be sent out to pasture himself now.
EDIT: I do admire him more than our 2nd half D and their adjustments.Bpk likes this. -

If ricky would of made that play i bet everyone would of said that was amazing,DAM IF YOU DO, DAM IF YOU DON'T

fact is the pass was picked
big momentum shift
bad call -
At what point does EXECUTION get judged and not the call?? -
Henning got cute
run the football -

For the record I despised the call for many of the reasons pointed out...but its execution that produced the RESULTS not the call. The call never produces the RESULTS. -

Henning doesn't have to explain a god-damned thing, especially given the stuff presented in the article. Given how our offense has performed given the circumstances, our red zone efficiency, and Ricky Williams performance in practice, he was perfectly justified. Regardless of what backseat Madden offensive coordinators claim.Vengeful Odin and RoninFin4 like this. -
the thing with henning is you know if he was coaching new england and their players he would be considered a genius because pasties players tend to execute their plays to perfection. we dont have the brightest bulbs necessarily. not stupid but not football geniuses either. his playcalling is complex and that leads to lots of mistakes and why many coaches prefer to KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)

There is a huge difference in the scenarios. Dan Henning should know that difference.Killerphins and Gitrdone like this. -

For me the Henning problems run much deeper than the Ricky pass, his goalline playcalling has been a joke all year, and his LACK of ability to make halftime adjustments are basis for him to seek employment elsewhere imo.

(Henning also noted that, in terms of getting the ball in the end zone from inside the 10, "we're the best at it in the NFL.")
"We don't apologize," Henning said. "We lament like everybody else." -
Right when I think I'm getting over the Bills game, I have to be reminded by the play that IMO opinion cost us the game. That play killed our offensive mojo, and when your defense is guaranteed to fail you, you simply can't take those types of risks at that point in a ballgame. I'd say that there was a 99.9% chance of us scoring a TD by running the ball 3 straight times by any running back we have and that would have set a completely different tone for the whole game.

but he did
therefore why not just say you made a bad call
instead he tells us that play was the best way to get in the endzone
Ricky was doing it well in practice
what a monumental cop-out
I think the explanation is as bad as the play call -
very bad play call
unfortunately, only one of many -
This is on the 1 yard line, at the beginning of the game, with the score 0-0. It's idiotic, and there is no defense of the call.MonstBlitz, jetssuck, dolfan7171 and 1 other person like this. -
Ist and goal at the 3, RW is running over them at will and is admittedly not comfortable throwing the football.
I just can't see how that call can be defended..MonstBlitz likes this. -

that pick sucked the fire out of us
you know it i know it sparano knows it
every Dolphin fan knows it
anyone who didn't scream what the hell are they doing when it happened is blind
i can't imagine anyone would have said
that was a nice play call
we'll get in the end zone next time -
You know I do appreciate the trick plays and the creative stuff here and there. At the same time you got to bring the bread and butter plays that is going to win us the game. We need to bring it whether they know it or not. It doesn't matter if they know its coming or not...bring. We just need to execute it better then they can execute their plan to stop it.
-

sparano said we had no emotion
stop defending it and
do the math.... -
But if we didn't play with emotion, it wasn't because of that playcall. -
I was pissed at the call. Honestly, if it ain't broke you don't fix it. If it were 3rd and goal I probably wouldn't have been as upset, but you have to run it on 1st and Goal from the 1.
That said, It's hard for me to blame Henning for any of the offensive woes. Look at the talent on this roster. Now consider he's lost his starting QB and starting (Pro-Bowl) running back.
We're killing him over a handful of bad play calls over the course of 11 games, and not admiring the good things he's done over that span.keypusher likes this.
