Miami Dolphins linebacker A.J. Edds back in mix after missing 2010 with injury

FWIW, the finsiders have an interview up with Edds, and he just reminds me of one of the old Shula era types of Lb's

He reminds me of someone off of those old teams and I am unable to recall who it was, Offerdahl maybe?

Thought he played well in first game. What I liked most was his ability to get downhill, avoid trash and get involved. That was a step up from his Iowa days of going downhill. However, he did mainly played on #2s and away from the run action.

Plus, he ran well laterally and he can still cover. Going to be solid player IMO.

I think so as well Alen, Odie gets the press, Edds looks like one of those guys who just plays football, Chris Speilman was like that, so was Duhe.

Imo, he remind me of AJ Duhe, not in his play, but in his appearance, I think it is the beetle brow.

I saw an interview with him where he looked like he was 30 and talked like he was 40, very mature 23 year old...When I rewatched his game it was fun to isolate him, he played on the inside well, like a real inside linebacker , not just like some cover backer..He's the best backup we've had there for a long time..

I really hope Edds does well this year. Last year I was really excited to see him play and unfortunately he got injured. This year he should be able to come in and contribute. He has a great bunch of LB's to learn from and lets hope he succeeds and has a good impact on our team

I think Edds provides solid depth/rotation he is solid and has a ton of heart

Two guys who Edds remind me of. Steve Towle especially, and a little of Rusty Chambers

They called him the President or something at Iowa. I forget the exact nickname but it was because he talked with a lot of maturity and intelligence. He was really into politics and what not too. Very interesting character and definitely a good guy to have on the team.

Not a single person here thought Edds could be a downhill LB. Great in coverage in college. Thought he would be a Nick LB transitioning into the NFL. Probably still his role into '11. Interesting to see how his development goes. Good first outing.

im excited from what i saw of him the first game... i watched him exclusively a lot when he was out there and boy did he surprise me... i knew the coverage skills praise he received, but he seemed to be a heady linebacker in the run game as well, diagnosing plays and finding his way through traffic... did not see how he does disengaging from blocks though, but i was encouraged by what I saw out of him...

if he continues i see him getting a LOT of playing time this year, more than i initially thought...

This is one of the guys I am looking forward to watching this weekend. His development is crucial. If he can become the player we think he could be, we have a keeper for 7 or 8 more years.

the nice thing was that he didnt look like a rookie at all which he mine as well be with experience on the feild. It seemed like he was in on ever play agen he was out there. I know it was against 2nd string guys but it was hard not to fall in love with the game he was playing. Coming up in traffic during running plays and sitting comfertably in coverage. Made me very excited for him this year.

When I mentioned Edds comparing to Towle, it was because the latter was a tackling machine who still holds the team record for tackles in a season and he could handle pass coverage as well. It really had nothing to do with physical resemblance. Be that as it may, take a look at Towle from back in the day and he bears an uncanny resemblance to Edds as well.
