http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports...s-might-have-a-hard-time-finding-1211889.html This may be true but I noticed these two people who may or may not be available: So what do you think about this??
What it means is that if the Dolphins have a player with speed staring them right in the face when it comes time to make a selection they better take him. No more cornfed defensive lineman. We have enough of those already. I'm good with Titus Young, kid can blow the top off of coverage and help take some DB's off of Marshall.
Pointed this very thing out down in the Draft Forum, this is the yr for Defense. Right now, we do have 5 developmental Wr's on the roster someone had best get to work doing something with them.
No more cornfed lineman. PERIOD. I wouldn't classify Connelly as a "cornfed" lineman. Clearly, that boy has got some wheels. He didn't eat enough corn to be drafted by this regime.
Let's just try to determine who has alligator arms before we draft our speed (Avery). That said, I would love to see Noel Devine in a Phins uniform.
True but since Ireland wants speed, do you think they would still be on the roster competing for a spot?
Bring us Titus Young and I will be happy, that dude is explosive and can absolutely be similar to DeSean Jackson for us.
Jernigan is a guy I have my eye on. Noel Devine, Jacquizz Rodgers and Derrick Locke are also guys that could produce as return men and even though each is a RB, could be split out wide.
Jernigan and Young are 2 different types of speed players and would compliment each other (and Marshall) extremely well IMO. I'd almost take both if I could get them both. Jernigan in the 2nd and Young in the 3rd...... and then pray an electrifying back like Quizz Rodgers is there in the 4th.
jacquizz could handle at least 10 touches a game and return kicks. his brother in the late rounds as a returner id be fine with too
It wouldn't matter if their was a lot of speed in the draft or not. The Dolphins have shown ever since Parcells took over the team and he and Ireland have been selecting players. They are more interested in big players with no speed. So I have no doubt that Ireland, now picking without Parcells holding his hand, will continue to find players who are big and slow to fill out the roster.
There's plenty of speed in the 2nd-mid rounds. Titus Young, Jerrel Jernigan, Torrey Smith, Ronald Johnson, Randall Cobb, Noel Devine, Quizz Rodgers, Jock Sanders, Kendall Hunter, DeMarco Murray, Ryan Williams, Dion Lewis, etc... We don't necessarily need to draft a ton of guys that can run a 4.3 flat. We need playmakers that can stretch the field and maybe a deep threat at WR. I think there are plenty of deep threats at WR in this year's draft. At RB, we just need more burst and playmaking ability. I think we will be fine.
What football folks SAY and what they DO are completely different things lots of times. 'Specially Ireland.
I agree with this completely, I mean from what I remember Percy Harvin ran something like a 4.4 at the combine and I don't think anybody doubts that he would absolutely change our offense. Let's please remember this before we go crazy about the 40 times of the guys we end up picking.
It doesnt take a genius to see that we're sorely lacking in offensive speed and playmaking ability..... and it doesn't take a genius to understand that Ross is the one cutting the checks here and that Ross wants an exciting offense, so if Ireland wants to keep his job he would be wise to do what the boss wants and the team needs.
Exactly! For some reason it seems like a lot of people believe that Ireland actually wishes ill upon our Dolphins, I think that he's made mistakes, but he's new to this job and I think that with each year he has helped improve our immediate needs. No doubt in my mind that we end up excited with some of the acquistions that we make this off season.
Totally agree with you. It started with Marshall & Dansby...... and I think it will continue this year with at least 2 more studs and possibly a surprise acquisition that some of us arent even thinking about. Somehow I get the impression that Ross is like a kid in a candy store with this team and wants to do whatever it takes to field the best team possible at all costs (kinda like how we get in franchise mode on Madden, only with real money )
I don't listen to what he says because I have three years of watching him in action, which shows me what kind of players he drafts and signs in free agency. The Dolphins were lacking speed when he came here three years ago and they have done nothing in those three years to upgrade the speed on this team. Ireland can talk all he wants to about needing speed on the team, but I have serious doubts as to whether he is capable of drafting players with any speed. I have absolutely no confidence in his ability as a GM and I can not wait until next season is over so Ross can finally get rid of Ireland and Sparano and actually hire a GM and coach who can finally turn the Dolphins into a winner, once again.
