Ever since the Robie family sold the Dolphins we have had nothing but pathetic ownership and bad football teams including this year.

 

hey any coach that says fu## you to the narrative that you have to win from the pocket, or protect your qb from injury, and uses the hell out of the entire skillset of the guy who touches the ball the most is in line for my respect..lets interview him..

 

Shula may be a great candidate but let's also acknowledge that it's easy to build an offense around a QB when that QB also has a good OL and running game to go with it. As far as the D coordinator for Carolina, he's benefitted from some great drafts. Our franchise has perennially struggled in drafts and I see no reason that would change.

You could argue this is a question of what's causing the problem of the players we draft, coaching or poor evaluation. On some level, it's both. Either way, it won't matter who our coach is if we continue to miss on high round picks and draft marginal players.

 

Big problem is we won't have a coach til after the super bowl. I can wait, can Ross?

 

I'm all for rolling the dice on Shula part II in Miami. But what if it doesn't work out? Could get awkward for Miami and The Don. I'd hate to see that relationship diminished in any way.

 

I think Don Shula would be well aware that any success or failure of his children rests in their respective hands rather than believing they should be given some type of added cushion due to who their father is/was in team history.

I think he will be just fine.

 

I wanted Mike Shula back when he was in Cincy.

 

There are better candidates than Mike Shula out there period. Its a great story because his father was a legendary coach for us but Shula wouldn't be on my short list.

 

I actually thought about Mike Shula as well, just for nostalgia reasons...I know nothing about him as a coach or what type of style he brings to the table, but it can't be as bad as what we've had. It would definitely create a buzz and we all know Ross is all about a good buzz.

 

I think Mike Shula would be a great hire. But I doubt we'll do it.

As long as there is a cancer in the upper management (Tannenbaum), it will not matter who is leading the team. For the Phins to get back to winning, they have to start from the top.

Hire a real football guy to be VP ( Alonzo Highsmith), and then for Ross to get out of the way. Bring in Shula and staff, and then a real QB. Within 2 years, the team will be back.

 

Shula has cam newton.. Last year they were calling for mikes job..

The he panthers are undefeated in a down year for the nfl...

This is one of the reasons I want nothing to do with Shula, tough enough to turn an organization around, without the specter of your very own father hanging over you, and who want's to see a Shula actually get fired, not anyone.

When tannenbaum was hired I feared he'd eventually bring in Mangini, however b/c he's a 3-4 guy and we have Suh my worrying subsided. I will say this though, whoever comes in needs to teach our DBs to put their hands on the WRs(first 5 yrds of course). I don't like off coverage zone schemes. And I realize a change in philosophy for the defense might spell the end for Grimey.

 

Do you think Suh would be a good 3-4 DE, I could see that, not sure he would like it, but I could see him playing well as a DE in a 3-4 system.

 

Did he visit Cincinnati once and that is the reason you wanted him to coach the Dolphins? Because Mike Shula never coached in Cincy, but his brother did.

Also his brother left coaching after being fired by the Bengals and has been working for the Shula restraurant business for well over a decade.

It makes me question how you wanted Mike Shula since he was in Cincy, when he was never in Cincy to begin with.

 

To heck with buzz. I just don't see Mike Shula as a head coaching candidate in the NFL. Perhaps he will eventually get another head coaching opportunity at the college level. I think he is more suited to be a college head coach than an NFL head coach.

Unfortunately with Ross and Tannebaum heading the coaching search, I expect the next hire will likely be Philbin # 2. I have zero confidence they will hire a quality head coach and as a long time Dolphin fan, that is quite depressing to me.

 

Can you elaborate on why you think he is better suited for college? Is it his coaching style or his demeanor? Is it a lack of HC experience at the NFL level? Is it his personality? Have you met him? So you have insight on him as to make such a determination that he couldn't be a HC at the Nfl level? I am curious as to why a fan who has never met the man or anyone associated with him personally or professionally has the extremely uninformed opinion that he could not be a good head coach at the NFL level. Or am I wrong and you golf with the man or something?
