The Miami Dolphins signed former St. Thomas Aquinas standout Sam Young to address the offensive line's struggles on Tuesday.
Young, a six-year veteran, participated in training camp with the Dolphins, and had a respectable showing during the preseason. But he didn't make the 53-man roster, and spent the first month of the season out of the NFL.
However, Tuesday's release of Dallas Thomas and Billy Turner put the Dolphins in a pinch heading into Sunday's home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers because the roster didn't feature any viable backups capable of playing offensive tackle.
With Branden Albert overcoming an illness and Laremy Tunsil nursing an ankle injury he suffered last Sunday the Dolphins needed someone who could coming in and contribute right away.
