This article may explain why we haven't heard anything about the Dolphins going after Brandon Marshall just yet.

The problem is an awful lot of talented WRs in this league have a bit of "diva" in them. It's the nature of the position. So the FO can continue to thumb their noses at these play makers and keep dragging in flocks of Patrick Turners. Maybe they'll get lucky one of these years. Maybe not.
To me it's starting to seem like cutting off your nose to spite your face. If they didn't want a "diva receiva" they should have dealt for Boldin.dirtywhiteboy, DolfanJake, finyank13 and 5 others like this. -
Even if we draft a reciever that's not a diva as soon as they hit that threshhold where they become a top tier talent they 99% of the time become a diva so this line of thinking is essentially resolving to never have any top tier talent at reciever on your team.
Sure we might get lucky and hit that 1% eventually, just like we might win the lotto before we die but odds are pretty good we won't. They really have to get out of this "we don't want a diva" mindset, either we want top tier talent at reciever or we don't, can't have your cake and eat it too, gotta take the bad with the good and so on... and so on.dolfan7171 likes this. -
Whats left on the market worth looking at?
T.O. and Marshall both diivas so to speak get over it the big head is attached to alot of the best players.
T.O. can't be consistent on catching the ball, alot like Ginn just a bigger body.
(And attitude)
Marshall has the better hands in my opinion and is younger he will make someone a very good WR. -
brandon marshall is far from a diva, he's an ******* and a troublemaker, plain and simple.

Looks like we are looking deep into the draft.

There are many good receivers who are not divas. We just need to be patient and we will find one.

Jerry Rice was anything but a Diva, and nobody has EVER played the position better. Don't tell me it is the nature of the position, it is the nature of the mental disposition, and I'll put my trust in Parcells on this issue.
Edit: Rice also wasn't that tall, nor that fast. He WORKED harder than anyone else who ever played that position. Michael Irvin may have had his off-field problems, but he wasn't all that fast and in practice and in games, he was NO Diva, and he also out WORKED everyone else at his position. Want some more names?dolfan7171 and mullingan like this. -
The phins are too modest, now that peezy is gone this is even more true

Miami Dolphins want to avoid "scoring touchdowns when the game is on the line".

Ted Ginn plays like a girl, does that qualify him to be our diva?

I hate Omar Kelly.

The list of divas is much shorter then the list of non divas at that position. But because all you ever hear about is said divas latest off field bs it just makes it seem the opposite. There are a lot more cj and Fitzgerald non diva WR's then there are Chad Johnson's.

Then they'll probably never have an elite WR on the team. That's just something you have to usually put up with at that position unfortunately. Jerry Rice retired so I don't see many options for an elite receiver minus the attitude.

The pats had no problem signing problem child randy moss.Wow he has only scored 47 tds in 3 seasons for the pats.I wouldn't want a trouble maker on my team like that.
I would rather have a good guy like pat white and ted ginn to spread joy in the locker room and suck on the field.MikeHoncho, dolfan7171, xphinfanx and 3 others like this. -
Jerry Rice was one of a kind. By the time the Dolphins find their Jerry Rice at receiver, some of us won't be around to see it.dolfan7171, jetssuck, PhinsRock and 1 other person like this. -

I don't think the problem with Marshall is that he's a diva, the problem is that he's a coach killer, has an arrest record and you worry that he will be suspended by the league for a long time. Parcells got along fine with Meshawn, a diva for sure but the guy worked hard and didn't get in trouble. Some of the things Marshall has done get glossed over by fans, this guy is a major risk/major reward type player, he's not just a ego that likes to be stroked, he's a guy thats had major problems off the field and with coaching staffs.
I don't buy that you have to put up with this kind of behavior 'because of the position', thats a made up argument, theres been plenty of WRs in this league that aren't getting arrested or suspended by their team and still put up good numbers. Remember, Marshall wants a huge payday as well as us having to give up the 12th overall pick.Bpk, dolfan7171, Fin D and 1 other person like this. -
Being honest can anybody tell me they definitely want so and so at 12 in this years draft.....AND 80% of people on this board would agree with.....like Vontae last year?? Or Long?? or Brady Quinn (even though I didn't want him, I wanted Willis that year ha!)...this year at 12, there are alot more reaches than sure picks, at least I see that thru the posts on here...and I have even flipped alot too....if your first round pick was Brandon Marshall how the hell are you going wrong!?!?!?!dolfan7171 likes this. -

In case any of you guys missed the show last year, we lost most of our games due to our defense giving up 20+ points like it was going out of style. So please lets not try to misrepresent it by saying that the Dolphins will never go to the playoffs without an All Star Receiver.
That being said, typecasting all Wide Receivers as Attention Whores/Troublemakers is just not right. Example: Andre Johnson. One of the better receivers in the league, I haven't heard a peep about.
Ocho Cinco, Terrell Owens, Brandon Marshall, and after that I'm having a hard time coming up with "Diva" receivers.
The point of the matter is it's a really bad assumption to say you HAVE to put up with a toxic ego at ANY position, to win a superbowl. How many superbowl wins do TO, Ocho, or Brandon Marshall have?dolfan7171 likes this. -

It's not unheard of, but I'm trying to say that it's not the rule. It's not a requirement to have someone on your team like that.
It just seems that the standpoint of a lot of people these days is If you want to win championships, put up with a cocky WR who would rather be an actor than a WR. And I just think that's not true.dolfan7171 likes this. -
"Divas"?
could build a contract around right appropriate behavior that would go far to fixing these little problems, making them too expensive to maintain. money talks. -
this team is on the fence is going down really fast, or up.... -
Just for the record, I don't think Brandon Marshall is a troublemaker. He has had some ALLEGED issues with domestic violence, but that's about it. I think we are blowing him out of proportion. He's a frat brother of mine and from the social settings I've been in with him he's an alright guy. I mean....Cecil Collins....Lawrence Phillips....Maurice Clarett....these guys are trouble makers. I mean..Ray Lewis caught murder charges but I don't think anyone would knock him being on our team. So...can we please stop beating the "troublemaker" drum. He's a young kid who has got into some trouble....and acts like every other wide receiver in the league. The Miami Dolphin are not your church's flag football team.

after having 30 yrs of mediocracy in the reciever department it's time to pay for a #1 reciever.we fans deserve atleast one.we've suffered through too many chris chambewrs.david bostons, mcknights and tedd ginn's.we are never going to make a strong superbowl push with a strong chance to win untill we get one.finyank13 likes this. -
the way that diva is used to describe WR is players that seek the limelight on themselves. Selfish, self important.
Diva for WR is not playing soft or weak.
The top WRs are generally divas.
So if you want a top WR typically they have that character trait.
to avoid divas is to avoid top WRs.
Clearly there are top WRs who aren't divas, but where is Miami going to get a real #1 WR then? -

I flip flop on this Marshall thing hourly.
one minute i really want the guy and think he would be a great weapon to have (even though i want them to build the defense)
next minute i think no way we ruin this team with a guy like that
this stuff makes me nuts :shifty: -
In the end, you could literally spend every draft pick on defense, maybe even trade Thiggy or Penny, for another higher draft pick....the sky is the limit kinda....go into the season scoring points like crazy and wait for the defense to catch up alla the Saints did for the past couple of years...or do nothing and have a nursing home offense and the same holes on defense...if Suh made it to 12, or somebody amazing, I would reconsider, but as it stands with who it looks like will be available at 12...it again is a no brainer, and quite frankly wondering if this FO is competent.....people on this board are making this kid out to be Charles Manson...he is wild so what, any coach worth his salt, would harness it and get the best out of him... -
gm's are able to word the contract in ways that protect themselfs(players have to agrre but most do) financially from players like that..good example is pittsburgh putting in the clause that suggest ben wear a helmet when riding his motorcycle..if something happens to ben on his motorcycle and he wasnt wearing a helmet then the team can get some of the money back if ben isn't able to play. -
As I've said a million times, getting better on offense makes you better on defense. Getting better on defense just makes you better on defense. And we have seen that the best defenses in the league can't match the offenses of the Colts and Saints. -
But once Parcells and Sparano set up camp, it's been nothing but toughness since. Team's don't like playing us for that reason. Just look back at the quotes following games and even before games. And as for your admiration of the vaunted Jets...you're talking about a team that we've beaten twice last year, and 1.5 times the year before (that loss was anything but Favre and the Jets "beating" us on a fluke play). The grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence friend, but it's not.dolfan7171 likes this.
