We've dumped ALOT of payroll with Shaq leaving. And after dumping Jason Williams contract (which Im assuming we'd do to acquire Baron) that saves us even more. You can also kiss Ricky Davis' sorry *** goodbye.

I dont think money is the issue as much as the compatibility factor. You never assume injuries as they are a part of the game. If, and I realize its a big if, but IF we could acquire Davis I like our chances after hopefully adding Beasley/Rose in the draft.

We can't afford Baron Davis' contract unless we sign and trade..and even then..they have to take a horrible contract from us in mark Blount. We would have to send them Haslem as well.

    So...NO.

There was talk of Haslem getting moved last off-season. After the season we just had I dont think anything is out of the question. Riles will be looking to deal. Unless Michael Pietrus is the only guy he has in mind

Trade Haslem, get Baron Davis, draft Beasley... I like it. Won't happen, but I like it. But man, that would be an awkward first meeting between Baron and Wade.

I'm starting to accept that Derrick Rose will be in a Heat uniform next year.

That Pietrus deal has been floating for 18 months. It is the deal that won't go away.

It's like a soap opera. At first, he talked about how much he loved playing in Golden State and wished for an extension. Then, he went on for about 10 months about how badly he wanted to play in Miami. At one point, he was telling French television that he had a deal done with Miami. I think I read somewhere last week that Pietrus now "loves" playing in Golden State, and is looking to re-sign this summer.

He'd make for a fine 6th or 7th man, though.

I'm almost 100% sure Miami won't even sniff the #1 pick, probably not even #2. We're going to wind up with #3 or #4, let's just hope it's spent on Bayless or Mayo. I can't imagine sitting through 15-67 for Brook Lopez. Pretty suicidal if you ask me.

Oh, don't worry. I'm just speaking this way to keep from potential disappointment. :wink2:

On the flip side, my grade on O.J. Mayo isn't even a notch lower than Derrick Rose. Just a "tad"

Extending Marion's contract would be a huge disappointment, IMO. As much as I love Shawn Marion, it doesn't better this franchise for the future. You're talking about a 5 or 6 year deal kicking in 2009, which locks Marion up from age 31 - 36/37. If he was a PG or PF/C in his prime, then fine, but I wouldn't make that jump for a perimeter orientated SF/PF. If we wind up with Rose, Mayo, or Bayless, then we're really going to need a big man. Would you pass up on the opportunity to land Brand or Boozer next summer for Shawn Marion? Ehhh.

Oh, and about 26 hours until DOOM. (keeping my lottery hopes negative to spare disappointment)

In all seriousness, tomorrow night is HUGE for this franchise. I hope to God we land a top 2 pick.

We'd have the best two players on the court in almost every matchup no matter which two you take out of that three. And that combination would certainly work better than Boston's trio.

I like it. I want it.

Who could we get for, say, the #4 pick and some expiring contracts?

    A VERY Good player.

Some teams just want to dump a contract when they have others that will expire soon.

Maybe a guy like Brand could be had for a package.

I'm wondering who specifically we could land. I don't think the Clippers want to let go of Elton Brand, especially not for a trade: they expect him to extend his deal to stay in LA.

BTW...I know it is fun to say that the Cavs suck..etc..etc...

But they have shown how you can compete with just one great player.

You rebound, and you defend the post.

We need to get better down low.

Denver is shopping Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby, looking for expiring contracts and a top-tier lottery selection. New Jersey has been linked to offering Richard Jefferson, Marcus Williams, KVH's contract, and their lottery pick for the pair. I would jump all over the opportunity to pair Wade/Melo, despite the fact that I have never been a Carmelo Anthony fan. Wade/Melo/Camby would do some serious damage in the East - at least a top 3 seed if surrounded by a decent supporting cast.

If we fail to land a top 2 pick, then I'd be on the phones with Denver asap. Aside from that possibility, I actually see Utah listening to offers for Carlos Boozer from the get go. I don't think he sticks around next summer, where he will be an unrestricted free agent. And as long as Pat Riley is running the show, Elton Brand will remain an option, IMO.

But God........I want Derrick Rose. I really want Derrick Rose.

He's a huge upgrade over Shawn Marion, IMO. As much as I actually don't like Anthony, he can take over a game any given night. Not too sure Riley would take a chance on him, though. Again, I'm content with Jerryd Bayless or O.J. Mayo. I am, however, 200% against Brook Lopez, which is the player I think Riley would target at 3 or 4.

Sorry, but I think he's the most overrated player in the NBA right now, surpassing even LeBron James, Jason Kidd, and everyone on the Pistons roster.

I'm monitoring Utah's situation pretty closely.

Boozer and Williams could both split after next season.

Boozer would be a great addition to this team. I'm amazed at how far he's carrying Utah. Put him next to a healthy Wade and that's an ECF contender.

I actually agree with you. I've been calling him the most overrated player in the league for a while now. Like I said, I don't really favor Carmelo Anthony as a person much less as a professional athlete. However, paired up with Wade and a solid supporting cast, I wouldn't be completely against it.

What I am against is the thought of going through a 15-win season for Brook Lopez.

Time for the NBA to rig the draft lottery again. There's no way they'll let Wade linger with a crappy team. No way.

Prediction: the Heat and Knicks get the #1 and #2 pick, not necessarily in that order.

lol, oddly enough, I was thinking the same thing. David Stern will hand Derrick Rose to the Knicks. But hey, I'll take #1 or #2, although preferably #1. I think both Rose and Beasley will be extremely special players, but this has become a guard orientated league, and you won't find a better pair than Rose/Wade. Not to get ahead, because I feel almost the same about a potential Bayless/Wade back court. We could sure up the front court in 2009.

Interesting bit on a potential Bayless/Wade back court:

Neither player even knows how to spell his own first name.
