Because Wade is one of the top five players right now, and is arguably the face of the league--despite the NBA's attempts at pushing LeFraud. Miami is a huge basketball town, and you don't allow one of your superstars--who just signed a multi-year extension--to linger on a horrific team in a big market. Makes no business sense.

Now, if Wade played for Memphis or Portland or the Clippers, things might be different. But he plays for the Miami Heat, and it is therefore important to the NBA that Wade's team return to prominence.

If the draft lottery is truly rigged, the Knicks and Heat will land the top two picks. The Knicks should take Beasley, the Heat should take Rose. The Miami/Noo Yawk rivalry will quickly resume.

There was a thread on this a few months ago, probably back at the old site.

LeFraud doesn't have Wade's exposure, as odd as that sounds. Wade had the 2006 Finals, he parlayed that into a huge presence outside of basketball. You go up to someone and ask them to name a current NBA player, Wade's name will be mentioned more than LeFraud's. (While Kobe Bryant will be mentioned more than both of them, Kobe isn't really the face of the league. He's fallen from that status.)

I've yet to hear a reason why Wade is NOT the face of the NBA. People just say "LeBron" like it's self-evident. No, it's not. Wade is the face of the NBA much as Peyton Manning is the face of the NFL. There's a similarity there, too: both leagues would prefer someone else to be the face of the league. In the NBA's case, they'd prefer LeFraud. In the NFL's case, Goodell is so in the tank for the Patriots it's not funny and therefore wants Tom Brady to be the face of the league going into the next decade.

OK guys, as you watch the lottery, keep in mind:

Btw, let me just get it out of the way from now,

I hate David Stern. He's an evil man. Reminds me of Scrooge. That is all.

Whoa. Dwyane Wade lost a ton of weight! His face isn't fat anymore.

(just saw him entering the lottery on ESPN)

You're right, Wade DOES look good. Getting ready for the Olympics, I see.

Here's hoping Wade landed us #1.

By the way, to follow up on KiNG's post about draft order, here's the order teams are currently slotted in:

    1. Miami Heat
    2. Seattle Supersonics
    3. Minnesota Timberwolves
    4. Memphis Grizzlies
    5. New York Knicks
    6. Los Angeles Clippers
    7. Milwaukee Bucks
    8. Charlotte Bobcats
    9. Chicago Bulls
    10. New Jersey Nets
    11. Indiana Pacers
    12. Sacramento Kings
    13. Portland Trailblazers
    14. Golden State Warriors

If you see that out of order, the Heat got screwed by the lottery balls.

Avery Johnson is on the ESPN set. I like him as a coach, but I don't want him on my TV screen.

Yes. I'm getting my nerd on tonight - I'll be watching pick by pick, and I'll cry my *** off the moment something goes out of order (and it will).

Btw, you gotta love Avery dominating the TV set!

I'd rather the TNT crew. They're pretty good when it comes to talking basketball. (Or in Barkley's case, talking crap.)

Wade being interviewed. Says he has no pain in his knee, asked who he wants as a sidekick and simply says the draft is deep and a lot of people like Beasley and Rose. I wonder if he wants someone to take the pressure off him and thus wants Beasley.

I know that he has personally pushed for Rose, but one can't be disappointed with Beasley. I will be shocked if we pick #1 or #2, so I'd be happy either way, honestly. Man, the anticipation sucks.

EDIT: and yes, TNT is the only crew that interests me.

    T-Wolves pick #3. Heat pick #2, Chicago pick #1.

We're getting Rose at #2. I don't see the Bulls passing on Beasley.

The F'ing Bulls! They have a top 5 pick EVERY year it seems. I think they'll take Beasley without a doubt. We'll take Rose, I like it.

The Bulls have both Heinrich (from Kansas) and Gordon (from UConn) playing the point, right?

Nah. Heinrich is good enough. They desperately need a guy like Beasley. Hes a perfect compliment to some of the pieces they already have.

I still don't understand how a man of discerning taste such as yourself can root for the Pistons. That's like Tony Stark shacking up with Roseanne.

Yeah, Chicago's pretty much got to take Beasley. Noah is best served as an energy guy off the bench. Start Beasley at the 5, Thomas at the 4, with Noah and Gooden off the bench, and you've got a pretty good power rotation.
