There's sentiment inside the Dolphins that they need a bigger center than Samson Satele (295-300 pounds), and a Satele trade wouldn't surprise anyone. If Miami moves him to right guard, it would create an intriguing battle among Satele, Donald Thomas (who will be ready for minicamp) and underdog Andy Alleman.
• Fourth-round guard Shawn Murphy, inactive every game, must improve a lot to stick around. ''I came in raw as far as technique,'' he said. Murphy, who played guard only one year at Utah State, said his pass-blocking technique ``still has a long way to go.''

Not surprising at all. This makes an Alex Mack selection at 26 or a selection of Max Unger all the more likely. I couldn't blame them if they did that. There's nothing wrong with improving your front-line, ever...

Samson Satele was my guy in 07, in 08 he disappointed, if he can play guard, he would be a top quality back up, though he is a good center who is misplaced in our offensive line at the moment.
That would be a good trio of guards, Thomas, Smiley and Satele. -
I see no reason to trade a young offensive lineman that has showed promise. Our biggest problem this year was depth.
I do think that we need to bring a couple more offensive linemen though, including a center. However I think burning 26 on a center might be foolish because the draft is pretty deep in centers.gafinfan likes this. -
The draft has talented Cs but what would be even stupider would be passing on two possible All-Pro C prospects simply because we can get another later. Jake Long worked out pretty well didn't he?
If you can get a second or early third for Satele you go for it. I hated going into each and every game last year knowing the center of our offensive line was physically weak. -
Penny is one of the smartest players in the NFL, there are few people I would rather have mentoring Henne and Beck( yeah I still have hope for him)

* Play well one season and stumble the next...
* Even make the team...
* Get hurt...
You get the point...If he is traded it will be due to another team offering a very good pick for value. This team is still building like EVERY other team in the NFL. If an offer is good enough any player will be traded.
If the Fins get a 2nd or 3rd...He might be a goner... -
Satele to be traded?

Favre cost a 3rd.
Moss cost a 4th
Only if the trade was to Oakland will you get that.
Most likely it would be a Draft day trade to move up. -

Don't compare your 38 year old QB who had a huge contract coming and was all but donezo before August.
In a ZBS, Satele is a very good center who is 24 if I'm not mistaken with a couple years of cheap service left. There's a major difference in that.
If Lorenzo Booker could net us a fourth after he cost us a third a year later (with only moderate glimpses), Satele a two year-starter could definitely net a third round pick if not a fourth.
I'd be very happy with a third as that would allow the team to use that in a trade to move up from the 44th overall pick to nab a guy like a Larry English along with a C at 25. -
There's some suspicion that Satele been's playing with a shoulder injury this year, and if that's the case then I'd say a trade is unlikely.
However, if it's the case that Satele isn't the mold of O-lineman this regime wants he could be traded. In a Cam Cameron type offense requiring a quick agile center then his worth is much higher than in a caveman offense where the Guards and Centers stay between the tackles. -
Never again do I ever want to see another Miami Dolphin offensive line destroyed in the center like that. I know Donald Thomas is strong enough to hold down the fort and Smiley is solid although not great. The team needs a powerful C even when the Gs come back. Alleman is a backup. Ndukwe is blughhh and Satele even at his best is lacking in strength.
Alex Mack and to a lesser degree Max Unger are among handful of Cs who I think stand a chance of taking NTs head-on. If you've got that you've won the line of scrimmage battle against a 3-4. It's over basically. Ray Lewis will be begging for blocking as Donald Thomas hits him every play. Smiley will eliminate Bart Scott at the second level. Samson Satele cannot do that.
Heck at least Matt Roth is solid in coverage and a monster in the run game. He's often blamed for the lack off pass rush. To his credit he has one thing that's good in his game. The interior OL? Zero...funkdat likes this. -
Dude looked like a future all pro a year ago. He needs a new system or a move to guard.
Jaj, I have high hopes for Thomas as well, but he hasn't proven anything yet. A lot of people may have said the same thing about Satele after his first year. At least Samson has played well. Thomas hasn't played at all.Bpk likes this. -
On the other hand one does fit fairly well at his position though. If the shoulder injury is true I will give Samson some lee-way. I just think that a team would probably prefer spending a third round pick for Samson a 32 game starter than hope to get something from an Eric Woods in the third round.
-
This really shouldnt surprise anyone who watched the Dolphins try to run up the middle this year. traded or not, hes not a starter in Miami anymore. I think with his current contract status, he is a great bargain at backup. He could be enticing to a team like Houston. Im not sure what their situation at C is, but in their system, he would be Steve Slatons best friend.

This is what has killed this franchise.
Missing on draft picks and having to redraft the position all over again...... well that and Wanny never drafting certain positions at all.
I was hoping Satele just had some growing pains or a Soph. slump.
That a little extra work in the weight room and conditioning program in the offseason could cure. May not be the case I guess. -
-
Well that is what we get for Wes Welker a o-linemen that was good for on year and now we want to trade him.
-
In fairness, he was a "hit" in Cams scheme and even if he loses the starting center spot we know he has talent as a guard and that he pulls and blocks in space well. Soo, if we do draft a center, IMO, it doesn't necessarily mean Samson will move to another team. -
-
Why would we get rid of him? All he has to do is put on about 30 lbs of solid muscle and he will fit in the mold of the front office. He definitely looked weak and got tossed around a little too much this year. I think with allot of gym work and another 20-30 lbs of solid muscle added on, he will be great.
Let's not be so eager to kick him to the curb for a complete unknown. -
-
As athletic and talented as he appeared to be a year ago, why give up on him yet. I would agree with some of the posters that a move to guard could be good for him, if he were to put on about 20 - 30 pounds of muscle. How long would that take though and would he loose much of his speed and athleticism if that were to happen? If someone knows, could you post it, I am not sure and have no knowledge in that area.

I think it's a bit hasty to be dumping Satele. Center performance is highly dependent on combo blocks from the G. With the G injuries we had this year it may be a unfair to lay too much blame on Satele particularly if the rumors of an injured shoulder are true.
I do like a couple of the center prospects in this draft though. So I wouldn't mind getting a stronger center in there and having Satele as the back-up for all three interior positions or even as a starter if he beats out Thomas. He's still on his rookie contract for another year or two so he's still cost effective enough to use in that capacity. -
""""NEGATIVES: Lacks the dominant base and average as a run-blocker. Does not show a lot of balance in his blocking."""" link http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2007/draft/players/19061.html
Cam did a very good job last year of masking Satele's bad play with all the screens, pitch out's, and trying to get him in space but at the end of the day if your a center, you have to at least hold your own ground.
If you go back and look at last years and the 07 games when they asked him to play in a phone both he didn't do well ether.
Anyways he is still better then the Bills Center -
