I certainly found it interesting that it's Wake, Long and....Hartline. I mean the first two are obvious but the last according to most fans isn't as important. I think this shows us that the team values Hartline more than we do, and he may have a big year this year in the new offense.

I agree, Hartline is better than people think. With actual coaching, he could be a surprise this year. He reminds me of a GB style receiver in that he isn't a burner, but he gets behind defenses.
-
He simply gets open. He knows how to separate because he does such a great job breaking off his route and then he understands spacing vertically. He keeps his profile while running.

Hartline gets a lot less credit than he deserves. It will be interesting to see though how he does having to face the other teams top CB every week though. Marshall took a lot of eyes off Hartline, we dont have that anymore.
Long deserves to get paid like the top offensive lineman in the league, if Miami trys to skimp on his contract he will be wearing a different jersey next year. I guess the real question is, do we really feel like the offensive line should be as huge of a chunck of cap space as what it is. Maybe you take a top tackle in this years draft, get that nice smaller contract and send long out the door next year??? Sounds ruthless, but you have to spend money in the playmakes these days.
Wake is going to be interesting to resign...really good a couple years ago, seemed to struggle quite a bit last year. I would have to see him have another great year this year, if not, I think its time to look at some other options if he wants a ton of cash. He's a for the right price signing. -
-
I can wait and see what Hartline does this year before an extension. Long definitely needs to be. Wake as well, but if they don't extend him he walks next year.
-
This may help keep the defenses spread out if the ball is being distributed more around the field.
I like the fight to take the ball from Heartline he has a notion that if the ball is close its his. He don't just walk away from a poorly thrown ball and shake his head he will try like hell to make sure there's no
turnover. -
I am surprised that people would think we should low ball Long when he is the only perennial all star we have on the team. Its the one spot on the offensive line that is set in stone and he is one of the top three LTs in the NFL. Probably the best LT in the NFL when completely healthy. I guess people forget how bad we struggled at left tackle after Richmond Webb left. Webb was arguably the best LT who ever played for the Miami Dolphins and he made 7 pro bowls, Long has the potential of breaking that number. I hate to see huge contracts but would rather keep Long than let him go elsewhere and be the best LT.

Philbin was talking about Hartline's ability to get separation. And I agree that he plays like a stereo-typical GB WR. They're expecting a big jump from Hartline this year. Philbin point blank said that they expect more production from him. He didn't say that about any of the other wideouts. My feeling is that he wants to have three guys (WR/TE) who produce 50+ catches and that Hartline is one of those.
The one in that group that I'd be most worried about extending is Long just b/c of those back issues. If healthy, he deserves to paid among the best in the league, but back issues can make him average or even keep him on IR very quickly. -

Randy Starks might just be the casualty. There is only so much cap room to go around. Especially if Odrick busts out inside.

Wake was not nearly the player last year he was in 2010. Perhaps this was because he didn't have someone on the other side of the defense to pressure the QB, but he recently turned 30 years old and his best years may be behind him. The Dolphins certainly shouldn't break the bank to sign him to a long term contract.
Long is still one of the top left tackles in the NFL but because of injuries, last year was by far his worst season since he became a member of the Dolphins. If his injuries are completely healed, Long is certainly the one player of these three, whom I would most like to see the Dolphins sign to a new contract ASAP. -
-
Also you are very wrong about Wake. In many ways he was a much better player in 2011 than he was 2010. You cannot just look at the sack stats and come up with how well a player has played. -
The fact that Ireland wants to sign Wake and not let him play for 600,000 dollars or so, tells me he understands that Wake has out produced his current contract and doesn't want him to play on his current unfair salary..good for him, now get it done and show the rest of the team's players that if you produce, we will take care of you.

Hartline had been misused by Sparano. He tried to make him the deep speedy WR to replace Ted Ginn.Well it didnt work because Harline is not that kind of threat.Defenses did not respect his speed and started bunching up the LOS .
Last year we saw that he was a pretty effective sideline WR .He will thrive in the WCO IMO.USArmyFinFan and ToddsPhins like this. -
As far as Hartline is concerned. My opinion of him is that he is a very average WR. I have seen absolutely nothing from him since he was drafted by the Dolphins which leads me to believe that he is a true #1 or #2 receiver for a quality football team. Many games it appeared that he wasn't even on the field because his production was so low. He only had 35 catches and one TD in all of 2011. If this equates to a receiver you want as a major part of your receiving corp going forward, I just don't agree.likes this.
