That would be an incredibly dumb move.
We have a terrible Oline. No RB is going to be able to do much behind that group. Wilkins is a good player and we have don’t have much depth at DT. So, the Jersey should be safe.

Jefferson is the one I don't understand. I really wanted him badly. He dominated the SEC even when the doubled him. Seemed like a slam dunk pick.

It’s baffling, for sure. Then again, it’s the draft, and dozens of mistakes are made every year by people who are paid millions to evaluate talent.
The only negative thing I ever heard about Jefferson, is that he wasn’t very bright (to put it mildly), and people in the NFL were worried that he wouldn’t pick up pro offenses, or something along those lines. Don’t remember where I heard that, though.

CBS Sports’ Josina Reports teams interested in trading for Colts RB Jonathan Taylor are “willing to give Taylor a market contract.”

The Dolphins and another unnamed team are reportedly the two teams interested in trading for Taylor. The trade will likely be dependent on Taylor and a potential suitor agreeing to terms on a new contract, which Taylor has been seeking all offseason. It’s appearing more and more likely that a deal could get done for Taylor before Tuesday’s roster deadline.

Do we know what Wilkins wants? I guessed around 18-20m but I'm wondering if it's closer to 25 now?

Good Lord, I've seen better spammed crappy low ball trade offers in a $10 buy in work fantasy football league.

See, at this point, I think Taylor has grounds for a grievance.

I would believe almost anyone on the other side of a disagreement with Irsay.

Agreed. It looks like Irsay was playing a game with Taylor. He tries to come across as a good guy by allowing Taylor to seek out a trade knowing all along that he (Irsay) was going to make unrealistic demands so that the trade could never happen. All of this so he could say "we tried but the market just isn't there, why don't you go ahead and sign this deal that we're offering. Of course it's lower than what you want, but the market has spoken and our offer is more than fair and in line with the current market."

Man, the injury news gets worse. And we're not even in the regular season.

Dolphins RB Jeff Wilson Jr. lands on IR because of injuries
    • [IMG]
      Marcel Louis-Jacques, ESPNAug 31, 2023, 12:10 PM EST

The Miami Dolphins placed running back Jeff Wilson Jr. on injured reserve Thursday morning, keeping him out for at least the team's first four games of the 2023 regular season.

Cornerback Jalen Ramsey and offensive guard Robert Jones also landed on IR, both of which were expected moves. All three players will be eligible to return for the Dolphins' game against the New York Giants on Oct. 8.

Wilson's placement on IR came as a bit of a surprise, but coach Mike McDaniel called it the result of multiple issues the running back was dealing with toward the end of the summer.

"It's a midsection injury compounded by some finger issues," he said. "We made the assessment he couldn't protect himself and couldn't be himself the way we know him to be. I wouldn't be surprised if he would make a return this season. We will let his body tell us."

Wilson's injuries leave Raheem Mostert and undrafted rookie Chris Brooks as the Dolphins' lone healthy running backs. Third-round draft pick De'Von Achane continues to work his way back from a shoulder injury suffered in Miami's second preseason game, but McDaniel expects him to be available for Week 1.

Salvon Ahmed avoided a concussion after leaving the Dolphins' third preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars to be evaluated for one but is still considered day-to-day; McDaniel said Ahmed could return to practice as soon as Thursday or as late as next week.

Miami dealt a fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for Wilson at last season's trade deadline. He rushed for 392 yards and three touchdowns on 84 carries in eight games with the Dolphins, adding another 94 yards and a touchdown on 12 receptions.

In other news Thursday, the Dolphins and fullback Alec Ingold agreed to a three-year, $12.2 million extension that includes $6 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN. He can earn an additional $500,000 in incentives each year. Ingold, 27, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

The trade deadline is October 31st. The trade deadline for Jonathan Taylor before he was officially put on PUP was this past Tuesday. Miami can still trade for him tomorrow, but he is missing the first four games no matter what.

That’s all well and good, Drew, but he hasn’t played all preseason and he’ll miss the first four games, so he won’t be in game shape until mid season. I won’t be counting on major contributions from him this year.

That's what happens when you depend on not one but two RBs who had never been healthy until last year. Wilson played in 6, 10, 12 and 9 games the previous four years. Now we're left to rely on Mostert, who missed a combined 31 games the four years from 2018-2021 and is now 31 years old.

I hope he develops into a Pro Bowler, but the second half of Preseason games is like Vegas. What happens there, stays there. You just can't count on that being what anyone is capable of or will show in real games.

You have to remember he ran behind an OL which had no one make the roster.

Still a complete unknown, who no one thought was worth drafting. Like I said, I hope he pans out, but the odds are low.

You're right, but on the hopeful side - RB is the most fungible position in the NFL right now, and the easiest spot in my humble opinion for an undrafted player to breakout.

I’ve been ranting and raving for a decade + about the OL. If we could just the OL at the same level as our skill players, we’d be unstoppable offensively.

Now Miami is being linked to Cam Akers, who the Rams are now shopping. Presumably, it wouldn’t take nearly as much to get him as it would Taylor.

I can see Cleveland being interested with Chubb out for the season.

Akers isn't half the player the other guys we've been linked to, though. He's also on the smaller side, has an injury history, and isn't much of a receiving threat despite not being a power back either. When Wilson is healthy in a few weeks, you could argue that Akers would be fighting Achane for third on the depth chart.

I'd rather use our resources elsewhere.
